obsver, you should post a picture of Big Tony.
rues - Tortoiseshells really stand out don't they? Sorry your Kimmie is gone. You never stop missing your beloved pets. Kit was a rescue; part of a litter that had been dumped at a truck stop in St Joseph, Mo. She was the only one left and they had not been able to catch her. A veterinary tech student from there who was in school here in KC stopped there for coffee one morning on the way to school and the kitten walked right up to her and let her bring her to vet tech school with her. She got all healthy and then came to live with me.

I have to post Magic's picture here. He was my best pal and the most wonderful golden. He went to the bridge last August but has remained in our hearts forever.
-
Next meet Skye. "Musicur's Eyes on the Sky". Skye is my foundation bitch and is currently 13 1/2 yrs old. The first is of a young Skye winning points at a show. The last is her picture at the Palm Springs dog show this year.
-
Next we have Bonnie and Chance. I bred Skye to "Scion's Oughta be a law" Murphy was the top golden in the country a couple of years ago. Bonnie and Chance are 6 years old now. First is Chance - he lives with my son in Fallbrook, CA. Bonnie is also 6 and resides with us.
-
hen we have Picabo and Nugget. Picabo is 2 1/2 yrs old and Nugget is 13 weeks today. They have become best buddies. Nugget will start his show career in October.
-
We no longer have any kitties. Used to have 4 but the coyotes made it impossible to keep them. Every cat we have owned since moving here has disappeared. We are pretty sure coyotes got them. I'll post Buttons picture later. His picture is on my other computer. Buttons is a yellow nape Parrot and talks a blue streak. She is a fun buddy.
-
Here she is.Buttons was always thought to be a male until she laid eggs a few years ago.
-
Way to go Buttons!! :D :D Lindy, all your pets are awesome!

HUMMS - Your bets are beautiful. I love seeing all of our special friends.

These are my other two boys!! Jack on the left and Willie on right!!

Here is another from Wings. LUCKY
This is my boy Mr. Lucky ? 7 yrs old ? another foundling. I was on my way to work one morning and was stopped next to a pickup truck in a double turn lane. I kept hearing this noise, turned off my radio and heard a kitten screaming from the truck. I had to chase the guy down because the light had turned green and he took off. I finally got his attention and he pulled over. I guess he figured I wasn?t a wacko because I had my scrubs and ID badge on. When I asked him to pop the hood because there was a kitten under it screaming he got all flustered but managed to unlatch it. He had his radio on ? he didn?t hear it.. He opened the hood and there was this little tuxedo kitten sitting on the fan housing. I grabbed him, told the guy thank you, jumped in my car and went to my Mother?s house about 10 minutes away. I went in ? handed him to her ? told her to feed him and I would take care of him after work. Believe it or not, I just made it to work on time. I was on such an adrenaline rush from thinking about what could have happened to him ? it seemed like forever before my BP and pulse got back to normal? And because of that he earned the name LUCKY.
-
JeanneAH I love to see all the pictures too. Please get a camera-even a throw a way and take pictures of your babies. I used to make Rainbow web pages for hurting hearts - but many didn't have pictures-It was sad. We do have a Rainbow Bridge post here too.

Just love looking at all your dogs, cats, birds and whatever, especially the rescues. Lindybird...You can have a cat if you get it as a kitten and keep it inside. They don't mind being there. And are safe and healthy that way. Or two or three. lol
I had to post a new picture of my rescued stray Little One. The last one she was sleeping in a bird bath in the midst of snow. Her choice, friends. So here she is again. Stays inside most of the time now. Spoiled rotten. But still afraid of lots of things. Makes me wonder what her past was. Tho now it is about 7 yrs. with me.
-
I just adore all of your babies. For many of us it shows that even though we have lost a wonderful friend-a giver of unconditional love-we can open our hearts to others.
We were alone for almost a year after our Spartacus died. It was so empty there -but we didn't know after our loss if we could ever get another fur-baby. One day we were in a store and my daughter showed me a darling little dog in a cart that was called a Coton de Tulear-I remember-we were at Comp USA. I love Tech! We looked up local breeders and went to see the puppies. We were just looking.... I put a deposit down-it was completely refundable-and a few months later we were taking him home. She decided to have all the puppies picked up on Sept. 12th. That was the 1st Bridge Day of my Spartacus-I had planned to spend the day crying over his loss. I believe he sent me to get that puppy-knowing we would be too busy to mourn his trip to the Rainbow Bridge. Spartacus would do that. We were so busy that I almost forgot to light a candle for him. I am so happy we brought that little puppy home-he makes us smile all the time. We love you Bijou XOXO.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/Carewolf/Holidays/Thanksgiving.jpg)

Hello All, I love all of your pets! Sure wish I could have a cat again, but too many in the house with severe allergies to cats. I always had cats when I lived at home. Maybe someday I'll be able to have another one, or two, or . . . But I do have a wonderful dog named "Jamie" and she is the most mellow Pembroke Welsh Corgi even the groomers love her. She turned 10 on December 19th and she is the only other female in my home.
Thanks Carewolf for hosting this page!
Thank you for posting the picture of your beautiful Corgi Jamie. I'm allergic too-so we have always had dogs-birds too.

Here's an updated pic of our little Yorkie, Hardy. We adopted him in July after waiting four years after our last Yorkie, Chewbacca, died at age 16 1/2 (second pic). Hardy was our first adoption. He is a precious little guy, very loveable.
Enjoy looking at everyone's pets. Thanks, Carewolf, for the thread.

nanimal: Hardy is a cutie for sure!! Isn't it great how our pets give us the best unconditional love ever!! Your Chewbacca is gorgeous and lived a very long life. How awesome for you!!
Thanks, Kea. They sure do. Their devotion is amazing! I am so happy to have another dog to love, but I still miss all the ones before and I think I always will.

Awww Bijou is a great bundle of white fur and that cute black nose in the middle of it :)
Hardy is looking great Nan!
-
Thanks, Nora. Hi to Sparky, too!
-
Thanks, Shuff. I waited four years to adopt after we lost Chewy; we had him almost 17 years. Hardy was a stray. I would have gone to ends of the earth to find him! Lucky for us, his former owners didn't do that.
-
My sweet sweet Rizzo (aka poo bear!)
-
What a little darling, Jicaji! How old is he?
-
According to our vet he's between 3 and 4. He also is a rescue, found on the streets of Manhattan of all places. Was in a high kill shelter if you can imagine! He had a day or two left :( Cannot believe no one ever came to look for him. Unbelievable. He is a gift from God to me :)
-
I know the feeling! :) Hardy's estimated age is 3-4, also.
-
Great picture of Rizzo, love that expression!! There is something about dogs that have been bounced around between homes or in shelters and then adopted. :)

Introducing, Mike and Maggie, two brown Tabbies.
Mike was adopted from Nashville Humane Association's no kill shelter in the fall of 2002, four months after we had lost our previous kitty of Siamese and bobcat mix. (yes, bobcat!)
Mike was one of a litter originally 8 kittens. That afternoon, I had browsed up and down the aisles of cages in their cat wing for an hour looking for that 'special' cat. About to give up, I took one last stroll and stopped dead in front of a cage of 6 remaining mewing kittens all crowed and scrunched in the front . All but one! A solitary little kitten sitting silently in the very back...staring at me with those gentle amber eyes. Mine met his. I asked the attendant about the history of this litter. She told me that a family had left them two weeks ago because they moving due to job relocation and could only take the Momcat; all kittens were weaned, healthy, spayed and neutered. And, the kitten that caught me eye was a male; the family were Christian as revealed by the names the children had given the kittens, all after dynamic Biblical people. Except one. That solitary kitten in the back was named after the Archangel Michael, the Warrior angel. A name that would later serve him well.
He was given to me to take to the isolation room so we could 'get acquainted'. He immediately, crawled up my and nestled against my cheek and purred himself to sleep! Two weeks later after paperwork processed, we took Mike home. He grew to be a loveable, rascal of a sweetheart who loved to play chase. A wonderful 11 years that was cut short by cancer of the trachea. The last two years were spent in and out of our vets with tests then a referral to Blue pear Veterinary Partners in Cool Springs, TN and Drs. Holste and Johnson more tests, accurate diagnosis of pneumonia and a lobectomy, recovery. And no permanent improvement more tests and heartbreaking news, cancer. It was a nodule at the carina (where trachea branches off into the bronchial tubes). Our vet at Blue Pearl consulted with her old prof at her old alma mater Illinois State University, College of Veterinary Medicine at Urbana and Dr. McKernahn for an ablation. That year we spent Mother's Day waiting in the hotel and then the waiting room during Mikes' procedure. It went perfectly and Mike recovered in two weeks and was his old self once more. But, as doctors told us the cancer would come back and with a 'vengence'. So it did and the last year was spent in chemotheraphy. But, after 8 mos. and cancer only progressing; his life had been spent with things being done to him. And, when I saw that 'look' in his eyes... We decided to just let the disease run it's course and watch for the moment...
when a pet parent makes the most difficult decision there is to make, euthanization. They say, the greatest love is that of letting go; releasing that loved one to do what needs to be done for their sake. May 25 th of 2013. He is forever in my heart and thoughts... those we truly love never leave us.
Maggie, is named after my late mother's dearest friend, Margaret. She came to us and Mike from our vet's back in 2004. She was one of a litter of original 6 un-weaned kittens abandoned on the office doorstep at just 3 mos. The vet took them in, bottle fed them inoculated them and kept them in a cage just off the reception area. I met Maggie when I stopped in to pay Mike's bill; heard the mewing and got nosey. And, there, like deja vu, was a cage of 5 kittens crammed up front with one little lonely girl in the back. Silent and beguiling me with her emerald green eyes that said, " Take me...home, with you." I asked for her and we cuddled on the sofa. Like Mike, she crawled up to my shoulder, nuzzled my cheek. I called my husband, a corporate pilot who had just landed in Boston. I told him about Maggie and he said ' Just this once." After three months to gain more weight and strength and spaying, Maggie the Cat came home with me. After a rocky start, both she and Mike became pals .Many a night between 2 and 3:30 am they could be heard playing soccer with a tinkle ball.
Maggie is settling into her inherited position of Queen of the house and mistress of all she surveys while gazing out the windows on either floor. She has filled the position left vacant by Mike, most well indeed...this little sweet with an attitude cat who can hold a conversation better than any human. My little 'girl' who never leaves my side.
Inclosing, I've been a pet parent to cats for over 30 yrs. and this species, house kitty or lion, tiger or panther, never, never ceases to amaze me!

Love love all these beautiful pictures.
Found this quote, which I wholeheartedly believe.....

Bella is a cutie.
If we all adopt from shelters then the puppie and kitten farms will be shut down and so some of the abuse these places cause. >:(
Your quote has always been my mantra over the past 30+ years. Thanks for sharing with this thread. ;D

Both great articles. More and more need to tell their stories and get those da*n puppy mills out of business. We have a gal right up the street that sells shelties and poms to a broker out east and thinks nothing of it. Her daughter & SIL have a puppy mill about 10 miles from here. They've been shut down once and then moved to where they are now and changed their name. They get cited, but are still in business. I could just scream. Those dogs in the dog makeover article looked so happy all cleaned up and groomed :)

Izzy that looks like two rather old buddies you have, give them hugs for me. :)

Isn't it? You all are welcome... :D

Here's what my pups do while I chat with y'all about our eagles...
izzy... Awww... look at those faces... they are so lovable! Were they litter mates by any chance? Fuzzy muzzles... lol. :D Are they "built-in" foot warmers for you under your table? ;)
They were litter mates! And although they look like old dogs, they are only 5-their Mom was an almost totally white german shorthair pointer, I think that is where the prematurely white faces came from. They are the best foot warmers around, even when you don't really want warm feet, Lol!
-
izzy...your pups are adorable, what are their names?
Phyliz...what a nice story, thanks for sharing it :)
Thanks! They are named Izzy and Sam(not to be confused with me, Izzysam, lol!)

I thought this would be of interest to pet owners...a super human/animal interest story.

Barbells, What a touching story. One that could have, and without you, turned out sad and sickening. Incidents such as this is why I became active in animal welfare. You have an adorable feline family there. You son is a gift to you and your kitties.
Give them hugs for me. And, your little Charity a kiss on top of her furry little head for me...as often as you can. She needs all the love and courage you can muster.

I just love all the pictures. I'm so glad you posted. If anything happens to your pictures posted
as attachments please PM me. Last year Amy took off the attachments as she cleaned the forum.
I asked her if she would try to leave them in this and the Rainbow Bridge Thread and she promised to try. Please check your posts after the forum is thinned out-Amy understands how special our

Phyliz, I don't see either pic in your post above - just placeholders for them. I don't know if it's a problem on my end, or if others also can't see those pics here. My mother's nickname with close friends was Maggie - she was a Margaret, too. I can hear her contemporaries calling her now - and in the Southern vernacular, that first "a" in "Maggie" is a couple of syllables long... :D :D ... and I love that. ;)

Thanks for posting that Phyllis. I have been reading about a feral cat that someone on FB just brought into her house.

STRUDEL, THE CAT WHO THOUGHT SHE WAS A DOG
Taken from the Animal Rescue Site of the Greater Good network

"She's the last cat in the cage. I think she's too ugly," my friend said. That was all it took. I dashed to the pet shop and bought her. And so Strudel, the ugly cat with a beautiful heart, came home with me.
This beautiful soul lived with me for twenty years. And every night for twenty years she patted me on the nose, and I would lift the duvet and let her crawl into bed. Then she would curl up into the crook of my arm and off we would slip into dreamland together.
Going for walks was an adventure for her. She would follow me or run ahead and wait for me to catch up, drawing looks of amazement. "She's like a dog!" they would gasp. And I would smile, my heart bursting with love for my wonderful friend. She was my sun and I was her moon. She and I would orbit one another, her bell reassuring me that she was never far away.
Fiercely protective of me, she would growl at strange noises in the house and came when I whistled her special whistle. I knew her miaow the way a mother knows her baby's cry. Fearless and brave, she once chased a doberman off our property, coming back to me to show a pawful of black fur from the hindquarter of the unwelcome visitor.
My heart broke the day she started bumping into furniture. I knew she was going blind, a sure sign her kidneys were failing. One cold morning, I realised I hadn't seen Strudel for a while. I ran downstairs to find her lying, wide-eyed and terrified, in the throes of a massive stroke. I kissed her, put her in her basket and took her to the vet, barely able to see where I was going through the tears. It was her time.
I cry as I write this, over 15 years later. But I know that Strudel will hear my whistle when I cross the Rainbow Bridge and she'll come running to me as she did all those years ago.

3 Cheers for Disney Land in Buena Vista, CA and the Feral Cats!! **

After dark, the dirty work at Disneyland begins
A crew of 600 custodians, painters, gardeners and decorators works 365 nights a year to ensure that the 85-acre park meets Walt Disney?s squeaky-clean ideals.
May 02, 2010|By Hugo Mart?n, Los Angeles Times
Visitors on Main Street U.S.A. await Disneyland?s opening after its sprucing up by the night crew, upholding founder Walt Disney?s vision of an immaculate land, free of the litter and grime of the outside world.
When the last Jungle Cruise boat docks for the night and lights fade to black on Sleeping Beauty's Castle, the real work begins.
At lush Pixie Hollow, gardeners don miner's headlamps as they begin uprooting stubborn weeds. On Main Street, custodians scrape chewing gum off the sidewalk. And over at Mickey's Toontown, painters sand and recoat chipped handrails.
Few see it happen, except perhaps for the dozens of feral cats that emerge from their hiding places to prowl the park after hours, stalking rodents.
Welcome to the dark side of Disneyland.
Gone are Mickey and his friends. In their place are about 600 custodians, painters, gardeners and decorators, working to ensure that the 85-acre park meets the squeaky-clean ideals that Walt Disney himself extolled even before he launched the park 55 years ago.
During a recent overnight shift, Disneyland provided a rare glimpse into the work that goes into maintaining the world's second-most-popular theme park. Though park officials wouldn't divulge how much money is spent on Disneyland's overall upkeep, they said most is spent on the night shift.
And although most guests will never witness the after-hours work, theme park experts credit the park's continued success to its cleanliness and tidy conditions.
"Disney and many other parks recognize that keeping it clean and refreshed, with all of those little details that you don't notice until they are missing, are important to the park's success," said Gene Jeffers, executive director of the Themed Entertainment Assn., a nonprofit organization of designers and builders of theme parks and attractions.
It's one of the many reasons attendance at Disneyland jumped 8% last year despite the economic downturn, while the crowd numbers dropped at Southern California competitors like Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott's Berry Farm, according to a recent estimate.
To keep the park in good order, it takes a crew that works 365 nights a year, toiling under portable floodlights. "It's a city that never sleeps," said David Caranci, the manager of resort enhancement and decorating. "There is something always happening."
And for nearly every nighttime task, there is a specific worker.
Three workers are responsible solely for repairing and replacing the 800 umbrellas, 25,000 chairs and about 7,000 tables in the restaurants and snack bars in Disneyland and neighboring California Adventure Park.
Four certified divers collect submerged trash and make repairs on water attractions like Finding Nemo and the Jungle Cruise.
The work can often be tedious and occasionally bizarre. At the Enchanted Tiki Room, a 17-minute musical show features 225 robotic birds, plants and singing tikis. Patrick Pendleton, the show's primary mechanic, has seen it more times than he can count.
To make sure the characters work properly, he plays the show repeatedly, watching each closely. "It's hard to catch everything in one show," he said.
Sometimes, the jobs require ingenuity, even for some of the more distasteful chores. For example, the Indiana Jones Adventure ride relies on nearly 1,000 black lights that shine on painted mesh screens to create floating ghost images.
But the effect is marred when guests sometimes spit at the ghosts, and the saliva ends up on the screens where it glows under black lights. Because typical cleaning products bleach the screens, David Graefen, the ride's service manager, said his crew created a special saliva-cleaning solution.
Park workers have also found a resourceful way to remove other unwanted guests ? rodents.
Years ago ? no one seems to know when ? feral cats began to sneak into the park, living among the park's trees and shrubs during the day. At night, they venture out, and an estimated 200 cats now prowl through Disneyland and neighboring California Adventure Park.
But instead of evicting the cats, Disneyland's animal wranglers work to control the feline population by spaying and neutering the adult cats and finding homes for all kittens born in the resort. The cats eat at five permanent feeding stations installed throughout the two parks.
"We are not trying to get rid of them," said Gina Mayberry, manager of Disneyland's Circle D ranch, where the park's animals are housed. "They keep the rodent population down."
Other nighttime visitors are not so welcome. Before maintenance crews take over, security workers sweep through the park to find guests hoping to spend the night. (Don't even try hiding on Tom Sawyer's Island ? park security knows all the hiding places.)
"If someone tried to hide, they would not stay hidden for long," said Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown.
The primary goal of the after-hours crew is to pursue Disney's vision of an immaculate land, free of the litter and grime of the outside world.

Hi Phyliz,
I was just looking in this thread, mainly because I was looking for a safe place to test how to embed an image after trying to learn this off and on for weeks now -- finally did it (although I removed it; was just a test).
But then I came across this beautiful and heartfelt story about Strudel, the Cat that thought She was a Dog! That cat was beautiful -- who said ugly!! Studel's owner wrote so beautifully, "she was my sun and I was her moon" -- wow!! I still miss my Mookie (12 yrs ago Sept 8th) and Alex (11 yrs ago May 1st), old ladies that went within eight months of each other -- Mookie was 17 and Alex was almost 18 and three years with diabetes. I think of them almost every day, even though I have my beautiful Minnie and Mickey for over 11 yrs now. They are always in our hearts.
So now I'll test my embed abilities so I can post a nice Rainbow Bridge photo. They are all there waiting for us!
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful story!

Eaglesrock, your test worked. So happy you enjoyed Strudels story. But, why not post a tribute to your Mookie and Alex here as well ? This is what the thread is for. I know Carewolf wants to keep this going so it won't be eliminated.
All the best...

I know how much you miss your cat and mine died of cancer when she was 13. Mine was like yours a cat that protected my children from people and other animals. She thought she was the only cat that should have kittens and tried to steal other peoples cats kittens LOL. I still miss her and always will.

I had to post this...just had to.
Please read this tragic and heartbreaking story of a neighborhood kitty who was mercilessly used for target practice by veterinarian Kirsten Lindsey in Texas.
ADLF, Animal Legal Defense Fund is sponsoring a petition to the Texas Board of Veterinarian Medical Examiners. I signed my name to it with a scathing comment.
None of our pets will be safe if this is allowed to go unpunished.
http://theanimalrescuesite.greatergood.com/clickToGive/ars/petition/JGF-JusticeforTiger?gg_source=ars&gg_campaign=Ad%20-%20468x250petition-sliderjgfjusticefortigerars&gg_medium=house&gg_content=2015-09/468x250petition_150921092443.jpg
I signed the petition and agree this was a cruel inhumane act that should be punished. A vet should know better but appearently some do not and could care less about animals and who knows she may feel the same way about humans one day and decide to kill one of us also. She is stupid if she thought people wouldn't decide to have her called out for this inhumane act. She should never be allowed to own an animal or even be around them.

So nice to see you hear. I know, life just isn't complete w/o one's kitty/ies. Ever thought of being a 'foster pet parent' they're needed and lots of vets /shelters are looking for them. That way you can still have a cat and not worry about longevity and some of the vet bills IMHO (in my humble opinion).

this is a pretty amazing story of a cat gone missing for over a year but was rescued and returned to owner.
Those of you who know these areas will appreciate it even more. South Minneapolis is not that close to 35W and Black Dog Road.....It is an area where I go to walk and find eagles.....Freddie must have walked along the Mississippi and then along the Minnesota River to end up where he was rescued. Thanks to those women who took the necessary steps to return him!

In observance of Friday the 13th
For 19 years I lived with a black Straight-faced Persian who I named 'Samantha'. After Elizabeth Montgomery's character on the 60's TV show, 'Bewitched'. Those years were filled with the most amazing good fortune.
I found her like this when I came home from work one Friday evening. She had been napping on a box, that was packed to ship to my niece. I had awakened her and she looked so drowsy eye as if she was tired from work and fell asleep where she was. The circumstances were so appropriate for the photo and the caption lent itself beautifully.
I always kept the photo turned outwards on my desk when I worked as a licensed administrative assistance in a multi-agent, mutli- lined insurance agency back in the 1980s. So my clients could see it. The comments and chuckles never, never stopped
(http://www.raptorresource.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1512.0;attach=434996;image)
'Sam'antha, age 14yrs ( I wrote her name as I did , to emphasize her nickname.). Persian cat's body is built like a little Mack Truck.

Defination of animal abuse:
Cruelty to animals
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Cruelty to animals, also called animal helping or animal neglect, is the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, regardless of whether the act is against the law. More narrowly, it can be the causing of harm or suffering for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or for their fur; opinions differ about the extent of cruelty ... Cruelty to animals sometimes encompasses inflicting harm or suffering for personal amusement, as in zoosadism."

This was taken last week,, the first time in 10 years that Prince Charming has watched television!
-
He is a big kitty, and stretched out to reach the tv. He was so intrigued! I was looking for a kitten when he came into my life,, but was looking for a girl,, I told him I was not expecting a little man, so he must be my Prince Charming,, and the rest is history. Some call him Prince Charmless.. but hes grown into a sweet old man.
-
Your Prince Charming is watching the right channel, too!

Barbsuz, LOLOL... I love it! Your Prince Charming knows when there's something on TV that's REALLY worth watching! :D ;) He looks like a cutie. Sweet. :)
-
Baz, I hated to tell Prince Charming that that bird could make dinner of him! He was watching again this afternoon.
-
Thanks for the back story on your Prince. He make a good stretch to get to the bird on TV.
My Maggie ( avatar) loves to curl up in one of the dinning room chairs and watch the vaired species of wild brids we have at the bird feeders. Sometimes she falls asleep watching them.
Here's a recent one of her..

LOL Patch Davis! Love your African Grey, "Bob" - and the Black-Crowned Night Heron in the gorgeous, lush shrub outside your window!! :) Your story made me chuckle... I could definitely put myself there... I have a 29-year old Senegal Parrot (Zippo), who also is unhappy when I leave the house... and I always try to re-assure her as I leave that "I'll be back." I will say it to her it several times - even as I'm closing the door behind me. :D Though Zippo's vocabulary is entertaining, it isn't really large. She says a few phrases on occasion, but I would fall over laughing if she ever replies to me with a, "BE RIGHT BACK!" LOLOLOL. I bet your Bob keeps you smiling and laughing. :D Thanks for the story and the pic. He's very handsome. :)

Good Morning All,
I like to tell a story about a special dog his name is Odin a Black Lab, my husband and I picked in 2003. I got him just after my Mom passed away, so she never got to met him. I know she would have loved. When he grew to adult he was 115 pounds. A gentle giant, gentle and loving. In his thinking, people and animals were there to be his friend. When dogs were sure about him and growled, it bummed him out. He loved playing with tennis balls, he loved rocks, that he'd put in his mouth, drop it run around in circles, then plob down next to it. LOL Play in the stream and just walking in the water. He wasn't aggressive at all. He'd see robins in the yard chase them and get them to fly off and then he'd be happy as a clam. He do the same to rabbits, just getting them to move, made his day. LOL We'd go on a drive, you'd just have to say want to go for a ride, he'd be at the door, ready to go. I'd open the back of my Honda CR-V he jump in, (as he got older I'd have to pick is backend up to help him in) he'd lay down, you wouldn't hear a pip out of him, until you got to where you were going. He loved laying next to my husband on the floor, watching TV, he'd get belly rubs. He'd be all set. Just before bed, he'd get belly rubs, paw rubs, and kisses, then he'd go to his bed for the night. We will always treasure the memories of him and there are many, our gentle giant ODIN, RIP buddy. May 10, 2003 he was born and he died on June 6, 2014. If anyone is looking for a dog for the 1st time and have kids a black lab is the dog for you. They are the most loyal you could ever ask for. Here's a few pics of our buddy.

Friends, Phyliz encouraged me to share this sad news about our cat Mocha in this thread; I didn't realize it existed...
It's with a heavy heart that I share with you that our beloved cat Mocha has moved on to the Rainbow Bridge. She reached the age of 14 despite fighting off some serious diseases. Friends who knew Mocha have mentioned her gentle and sweet personality. She was a wonderful companion and friend to my husband and I.
She especially loved our "chair pets" where she would climb to the top of a Lazy-Boy chair, and I would stand behind her petting her under her chin (her favorite spot), and she would knead her paws and purr. Even on Wednesday morning, despite her age and illness, she climbed to the back of the chair; however, her breathing became stressed that day, and we called a mobile service called "Home to Heaven", and the vet arrived at our home about midnight. It was nice to be able to keep Mocha at home, in the place that she was comfortable and loved. She never liked getting in the carrier or going to the vets, so I am glad we were able to do this for her. My husband held her in his arms, and I kissed her forehead. She knew she was loved, and we will never forget all the love and companionship that she gave to us.
Mocha was an ocicat, with a beautiful spotted coat and lovely green and gold eyes that could see into your soul. She was very athletic, easily jumping from the floor to table or chair, and leaping across a distance from one spot to another. She loved to play with her catnip sock and string. She had a very good life, but we will surely miss her in ours.

"On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature?s most awe inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. NASA created this website to provide a guide to this amazing event. Here you will find activities, events, broadcasts, and resources from NASA and our partners across the nation."

"Do animals really change their behavior durinng a total solar eclispe?
It has been reported during many eclipses that many different animals are startled by totality and change their behavior thinking that twilight has arrived. You can explore this yourself with your own pets, or by watching local wildlife, especially birds."

The CIA called the operation Acoustic Kitty. But it’s not easy to convince a cat, of all animals, to go exactly where it’s directed and stay within range of a radio receiver.
Before digital technology and microelectronics, spying was hard, and everything was on the table. Throughout the 20th century, “intelligence services worldwide looked at animals as a possible way of both clandestinely getting into locations that an individual wouldn't otherwise have access to, and for carrying messages or equipment,” says Robert Wallace, who directed the CIA’s Office of Technical Service, the branch responsible for spy gadgets, in the 1990s. “You look at all the alternatives and if one looks viable, you’re gonna pursue it, until either you prove that you can’t do it, or a better way comes along.”
As outlandish as it may sound today, the CIA was quite serious about Operation Acoustic Kitty. And it was just one of many efforts to recruit animal secret agents for their sensory capabilities and ability to blend in–with varying degrees of success. But what makes an animal a good spy candidate? And do furry and feathery secret agents still have a role to play in espionage today?
Acoustic Kitty was a feline cyborg—a blend of unassuming household pet and high-tech. In a minor surgery, a veterinarian inserted a small microphone inside its pointy ear–an excellent natural funnel for directing sound. Then, they wired the microphone to a battery pack under the cat’s loose skin, connected to an external antenna woven through the cat’s long fur.
The surgery itself was pretty revolutionary, Wallace says. “This was before pacemakers, we weren’t putting electronics into mammals, because it’s a very inhospitable environment–it’s humid, it’s warm, it’s wet.” The cat was just fine, he recalls, although the project manager fainted at the sight of blood. And the technology worked–the cat bug could pick up and transmit conversations. But there was a problem–despite its CIA training, Acoustic Kitty had a mind of its own and wasn’t great at staying near its targets. A field test in a public park, likely full of distractions like pigeons and squirrels, proved Acoustic Kitty wasn’t going to work out.
“You kind of wonder what they were thinking,” says David Welker, a CIA agency historian. “Did nobody own a cat? You can't make a cat do anything. As a proud cat owner, I could have told them that wouldn’t work.” After five years and likely millions of dollars in research and development, the project was scrapped in 1967, for reasons any cat owner might have anticipated.
Innate curiosity may seem like a good trait for espionage, but it’s also known to kill the cat. In a popular account by Victor Marchetti, a former CIA officer and critic of the agency, that’s exactly how the story ends. On Acoustic Kitty’s first mission—that field test in a park—the cat spy wandered across a street and was promptly run over by a taxi.
“Marchetti’s version is a lot more fun,” said Wallace, but in reality, the cat lived a normal life after the spy gear was removed. That’s the official CIA position too, according to Welker.
**In the 1960s, the CIA invested approximately US$20 million in Operation Acoustic Kitty to create the world's first cat spy
