Good Morning Beakers

Lani - Thank you  :)  Safe travels for Mike.

BL - Good advice.  We had our silver maple trees "topped" after the tornado hit then in 2017.  We think the tree company did not do a good job on the one in the middle of the yard, as it looks the be drying out and the bark is falling off.  I hate cutting it down, cause several squirrels live in it.

tsk - Thank you for birthday wishes for Bradley.  :-*

clynn - I would love to drive that highway, adding it to my list.  :D  I know you will cheer Mom up.

Phyl

Good morning all
Lisa, love your morning picture and happy birthday to Bradley too bad about the silver maple. I have never trim trees to tell you the truth other than the trimming they get from storms. I wonder if you could plant another one nearby as I think those are fairly fast growing trees. The squirrels might just gravitate over there. I have some Cleveland pear trees that developed a fungus from something living someplace in the neighborhood. I had them sprayed once the recommendation was to spray twice and then I left them alone. Some people said calm down as the fungus would stay there last year. However, they looked pretty good so they must be struggling along and I’m so far doing nothing .  BL,  Thanks for my second opinion !your advice is exactly the same as my tree person and I still don’t know exactly what I’m going to do , there are Five lob lollys that have to come out!  Two small ones are leaning and 3  very large ones and were Severely topped by the winds.    I have more trees so I shall see!   No insurance involved here!   Thanks again and enjoy your trip!
C,ynn, think there was a   Lot of flooding on  the Ohio River so check before venturing too far down!   Glad your Mother has help.
I will take a ride on the road   In Montana.,  pretty

Phyl, when I previewed my post this morning all three pictures were huge, just like yours! I went back in to modify and hit preview!  I didn't modify anything, just hit save and it somehow fixed them! Beautiful picture of Audacity and Betty Lou! How are you feeling today, and have you heard from Jim? Love your skinny-limbed people and thanks for the poem... I wonder, are great poems still being written?

karen, Mom loves to go to Cave-In-Rock, and ride the ferry across the Ohio River. I don't think we will be able to do that this time. Maybe in July! That very southern part of Illinois is packed with history! Cave-in-Rock was in the movie How the West Was Won. Bushwackers hid in the cave and robbed folks heading west. At one time that area had the highest rate of murder in the US. https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/experiences/illinois/shawneetown-il

News Alert: The Ohio River at Shawneetown, IL is on the rise and expected to surpass the 41-foot mark early next week, likely forcing a temporary shutdown of the Cave-In-Rock Ferry. ... The river is projected to crest at 52.3 feet on April 12, which would be just shy of major flood stage (53 feet). The Cave-In-Rock Ferry connects Crittenden County, Ky to Cave-in-Rock.  https://www.wkms.org/arts-culture/2022-09-19/once-numerous-the-few-remaining-ferries-on-the-ohio-river-carry-on

Lisa, love the bouquet in your morning pic! We had to cut a tree down, I hate doing that but it was a dead ash tree. Every time I look out that way I miss it. Now I see the apartment buildings across the street. They are nice, but I would rather see a tree!

Happy Birthday Bradley!

Finally a video I can share of our great niece Olivia. NIL sent me the private only instagram videos of Olivia doing gymnastic on my iphone.
Olivia is the smallest/youngest of the three hula dancers wearing grass skirts on the right side of the video. The camera catches closeups of her a few times.

Clynn, Lovely morning pics! I know it's comforting for you to know your mom has help and you'll be there this weekend too. What a great idea to take pics of your mom's precious china, etc. You and your sisters will be able to plan ahead with your mom's input. I'll have Aly do that while she's here next month.... I'm praying Finn will return. I'll be heartbroken for her if he doesn't show up like Stanley. I'm such a worry wort when it comes to this nest... what a great idea to go exploring with your mom.  :-* .... stunning view of Beartooth Highway....Interesting history of Cave-In-Rock. How the West was Won is one of the best movies! Love it! ..../ awww the Fort St Vrain babies are adorable.  :-*

KB ... cannot find any blooms of anything in the neighborhood and 5 miles south. Perhaps we are a week or so behind your area ... being about a dozen miles north? Our day lilies and tulips are peeking, is all.  8)

Lani - so happy you found a way to post your relative's video and pictures. She's gorgeous!

tig - makes sense to me. I confer with my sis who has sandy soil, I have clay, and she's also north of me and behind me in plant growth..

It triggers me to no end when people even in my own city post how everyone should do as they do in their yard.
Um no, you do you, and I'll do my own yard, thank you very much.
So, even here people do different things. Someone was complaining about someone mowing their own yard.

As you  know my front yard is almost entirely garden and back is significantly so. For example, if I don't pick up all my leaves from my gardens early, I have to step on them and crush them in order to do so as there are so many, even with paths. i can't reach.
Same with my yard, I have so many squirrels that chase each other around my ash the bark flies off and other nonsense they do.

Anyway, I don't get defensive with these people, I just take care of my own yard the way I have successfully for now 26 years! But for some reason some people feel the need to tell other people what to do with their yard...

Have someone coming to give me an estimate to stain my decks this year. I believe I said last time that would be it for me!...We shall see. It's spendy, but if he does a good job might be worth it. Last time I hired it out he did a terrible job and I had to apply a second coat. took me 3 weeks...not every day but in total a section at a time allowing for weather etc. And I did it with a 4 inch brush.

Lani, I am so glad you were able to the video of the Aloha dance to share with us! All of the girls are so beautiful and graceful, and the music is just right!  Olivia and all of the girls seem to have the hula in their blood, they are perfect!

Paulie, hi there! Good to see you!

This article just popped up in my email:  Cicadas are back—and this time it’s the ‘mother of all broods’.

CLYNN   Love that color combo!   Beartooth - stunning  :o   Wonder if some landscaper who's in the know could create a berm around Mom's yard?   Or a culvert of sorts that would collect the water before it could get to Mom's home?   Will pay off in the long run if you have to let new buyers know the lower level floods.   Kelsey is coming with???  The Canyon in Iceland hardly looks real  :o :o    Hope the cicadas don't head as far north this year..We had enough last year.

PHYL  So far so good at Sauces.  ;) ;)

LANI   Isn't Olivia beautiful and so graceful.  :)    Watched it a couple times  LOL  No one cuts their hair??   We have a Cleveland pear as well but it does not bear fruit.  :(

Fort St. Vrain, feeding, all three are eating!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6UKTv0lAs

Sportsman's Paradise Online has all the cams you could ever watch!  A Tiny Kitten cam, a Schnauzer Puppy cam, all kinds of birds, including all of our favorites!   https://sportsmansparadiseonline.com/

tsk, I don't think she wants to do much, she doesn't think it would be worth it for what she could sell the house for. Housed in rural areas are terribly low priced, but you never know. I suggested that she could put those 18x18" carpet tiles down. They could be taken up and hosed /washed if they got wet. This has never been this bad, it may not happen for 20 more years...

Doesn't this look yummy!
