PUFF  Last week when it was so warm, I woke to a cardinal singing right outside my bedroom window.  I just love waking up to that.
But to have a birdfeeder right on my window - for all the squirrels I don't think it would work.  Be sure and wear your bubble wrap coat when you go out to fill the feeders!!!

KAREN   Cute cartoon.   Allergies certainly could mimic a cold.  :-\ ???   To add to the question to BAZI about what hawks eat - for sure squirrels as we saw one carried off from our yard.  ::)

BAZI   The wisdom of Mark Twain.  :)   What an exciting story.  Zippo was probably more disturbed by having his nap interrupted  ;) ;)   Punkin will get to where she is supposed to be and continue to love life as it appears she does.  ;D

OLDGUY   The close up of Kilauea erruption is amazing.    When you see the Clarke family so often it is hard to tell the changes in them.  Liked the "before" and "after"

Let me 'splain my antics with feeders.  It all starts with loading up my mini red flyer wagon.

Out of the kitchen bay are 3 feeders.  One is on a telescoping pole from the ground, about 7 feet up when up.  That one is a tube feeder for black oily sunflower seeds.  Too high for both squirrels and rabbits to jump up to.  I'm still having trouble sliding it up and down and then holding the pole while I slip in the holding peg.  I use yard gloves with rubber bumps on palms.  I'm too short and arm still doesn't grip well.

Real ingenuity is for the two feeders hanging down from the roofing eaves.  Nylon rope and pulley system raises/lowers each about 12-15 feet from the ground.  One has nyjer seed in a long tube, second has oily black sunflower seeds.  There are two hooks into the siding of the house where the where each feeder is pulled to top and tied off on the hooks.  Each of these two feeders also have a rounded off big plexi hood over the feeder.

Every once in a while I'll be sitting sipping my breakfast tea and I'll see two little rear squirrel claws coming down from the roof trying to get to the rope or a peg on the feeder.  If squirrel does make contact it does commits to falling and landing on the bottom tray at the feeder.  Sometimes it looks like they get there --- but it can't hold its grip long enough to have breakfast.  Interesting show!

All together, including the back yard, the whole works consists of 9 birdfood stations.  Also opening soon will be the water bowl and water fountain.  Other logistrics entail a mini red wagon to load up and pull around the outside (neighbors real get their jollies kidding me).  Also, I have my seed supplies outside in 3 40-gallon metal covered garbage cans with huge blocks of tree trunks safely holding the lids on.

I don't fill feeders in the back yard in the winter - only the ones I can see through the kitchen.  I turn off and drain the fountain, and replace the bird bath tray with a heated bird tray.

Lisa, We're having crazy weather too... we had snow, sleet, sun, wind and temps dropped to 21 all in one day... I can't imagine how much pain Bradley has been dealing with all this time.

Tsk, I did a lot of hooked rugs too. I still have the tools and patterns.

{{{Puff}}} glad you were able to set food out and now you have a beautiful male cardinal enjoying your gift.

Karen, love your cartoon.

Baz, I'm glad Zippo is okay, as well as Zippos mom!  ;D. I'm surprised it didn't crack a window or stun it's body for awhile. {{{LGN}}}  :-*

Oldguy, Congrats to the Clark Family, 5 years anniversary and making their first album.... Kilauea's eruption is amazing to watch! It's been 23 years since we've last seen it in person, it was sleepy and quiet. A few smoky areas, but this is amazing.

{{{Paulie}}} So glad to see you.  ;D

{{{Phyl, Jim, Miss Maggie}}} I hope Jim is feeling better... take care.

Good night Beakers and all who may be having stormy weather, take care!

PUFF   You have a big project taking care of all those feeders and watering station.  I like your window set up.  Squirrel proof.
We have hoods over our suet feeders that hang from a big branch in our backyard tree.  Great invention.  ;)

 ;D Good morning beakers!
Morning temperatures in the 70s going to 91 again today and waiting patiently for next week with a cool down
Nice to read of all of you with the Cardinals. I haven’t seen one in several years since the man who lived in back of me and fed birds like crazy stuff feeding and moved. His daughter who owns the house now does not put feeders out. I haven’t used feeders here as he was putting out enough food for all of us. Dr. Hall bought me a window feeder and it took a few days for the Squirrels to figure out how to get up there and knock it down. That was the end of that. I don’t have any other windows that can accommodate a feeder that would be squirrel proof. I love watching the squirrels with her antics, but they sure can be a danger.
I have a substitute worker coming today and tomorrow as my normal helper is on vacation she and her family are headed for Orlando for a long weekend. Amazing to me that someone who makes $10 an hour is able to afford this kind of trip but then it’s some other kind of economics.. The girl who’s coming today was here earlier than my days with helpers. It will be good to see her and catch up on her family and perhaps I’ll get my taxes finished if not today tomorrow.
Tsk I like your morning glories! I remember them climbing over everything when I was a kid. I wonder what happened to them as you don’t see many of them anymore
Have a good day

Good Morning Beakers!

karen, wow, you are having hot weather!  It wasn't easy finding the right spot to put Mom's window bird feeder. Finally, after putting down a plastic milk crate so we could reach it to fill, we found a spot! She gets so many hours of enjoyment watching the birds!

Lani, Love your good night picture! I did a bit of rug hooking moons ago, but a childhood friend from Albion who we always thought would settle down as a minister in a local church went on to big fame hooking rugs! He lives in Anaheim CA and is pretty famous in the rug hooking world!  https://geneshepherd.com/ He recently semi-retired but still hooking! Who would have thought!  https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x32m3tu

Puff, I saw a cardinal at my bird feeders yesterday, the first one! We used to have many, one time when there was snow on the lilac bush I counted 12 male Cardinals between the bush and the feeders, along with all their mates! It was spectacular! I just restocked my bird food, I have one 40 gallon garbage can, we have a thick wire attached permanently on one handle, it goes over and around the lid handle and to the other handle, a carbiner clip attaches it to the handle. The squirrels have tried many times but they can't get in!

Lisa, I am picturing Bradley walking with a cane and I feel so bad for him! I hope they get him fixed up soon! Love the pretty eggs in the carton!

oldguy, wow on the Clark Family and their first album! One good thing coming out of the covid pandemic!  The eruption at Kilauea is spectacular!

Paulie, I love thunderstorms too, sitting on the covered deck especially!

tsk, I loved doing macrame, I still have one piece that I made for my Mom of an owl on a branch. She had it in the computer room and I asked her if I could have it back! So I have it, it's on the deck. I'll get a picture later!

baz, love those words on the weather! It's crazy this year! Hawks are very aggressive! I remember a youtube video years back where a hawk attacked an eagle that was brooding eggs in their nest. The eagle had the hawk for lunch and the eggs survived! Glad to hear Zippo is fine!  We don't see nearly as many songbirds as we used to see around the feeders, it's been this way for a few years now. I looked out yesterday, the cats were on the deck and there were about 100 grackles and red-winged blackbirds out there. Sam and Sophie were watching intently! Wonderful to hear that Lil' Punkin is in a trial that may help her immensely! She is a little trooper! Ed has a niece that is very small, no medical condition but an obscure gene from somewhere! Here she is with her daughter, her and her husband (the giant) and others that I don't know. And one with her two children.

Big Bear - All is well!

Good Morning Beakers.....Is it Friday, yet?  ;D

baz - Thank goodness for that sliding glass door, and glad to hear the hawk didn't appear to be injured. ((Zippo))

tsk - Your reply to karen, we have had quite a few squirrels that have been feasted upon by Red-tailed hawks, and the lil old ladies as I call them, mourning doves.   :(   Pretty morning flowers.

Puff - How is your arm/wrist doing?

Lani - That is crazy sounding weather for you.  Love the good night pic.

karen - Hope you get those taxes done.

clynn - Wow, Ed's niece's hubby is a giant! Thank you  :-*   Glad to hear all is well in BB this season.

Phyl
- Hope you and Jim are doing OK.

kb, tig, oldguy - Morning  :)

Looking on the positive side Lisa  - Doing more and more, and it still hasn't fallen off.   As a therapist said, it may take up to a year; there will always be reminders.

Hoping Bradley is doing well, and ASAP.  I had a medius tear about 10 years ago, can still remember the pain walking.  Keep us in touch/informed - I'm sure you will.

Tsk, love your Morning Glories!

Karen, good luck with your taxes.

Clynn, beautiful morning pics... Gorgeous hooked rugs by Gene Shepherd... Did your mom's area get snow or rain? ... Your niece has a beautiful family... Glad to see Big Bear family doing well inspite of the wet weather.... We had snow last night, sun is coming out today and it'll be gone soon. But, the moisture is such a joy!! I started firewising this week so keeping the dust down is great! Mike went to the valley yesterday to get a shot for his allergies and lower back pain... He had a great night's sleep and seems to be in much better spirits. Which is good because he's leaving for Texas on Monday.

KAREN   Enjoy your day with previous helper  ;D

CLYNN  Gene is quite the rug hooking expert.  Will watch his video when done with this.   So funny about the owl macrame.  I crocheted a small throw for my Mom's bedroom - Got her new curtains etc to perk things up.  I have the throw back  and is now up in my nest!!   Interesting about Ed's niece.  The local news here is periodically reporting on Big Bear and last night was all about the names picked for the kids  LOL

LISA  Beautiful "robin's egg" this AM

LANI   Good catch on Kala's big yawn  ;D ;D   Nice that Mike had a well deserved break at home for a bit.

Hello Beakers

Severe storms have been daily to Arkansas to Ohio since Monday.  Several more days to go from the long range forecast.  I see that the latest Tornado warning is heading Phyl.  I have not seen her post since yesterday morning - hoping that she has missed out on any flooding or damage.
