The Norths are keeping up with maintenance on the nest, and MrN sits on the unhatched egg sometimes.  The small hole in the eggshell has not increased in size yet.  Eventually it will just decompose, or break, or get buried under nest materials.

It almost looks like they're putting rails up around the nest. Still sad to see that lonely egg.

Instinct tells the eagles to keep the nest built up at this time of year.  We can call it early nestorations for next season!

DNF spent the night in the Love Branches, visited the nest for a brief time before daybreak, then looked to be fishing from the bank of the creek near the big pool (no pic of that; she flew down and dissapeared).  Several cows and a calf were on the far side of the creek, in a blurry pic about 7:30, and a mourning dove gathered nest material on the ground under the nest area about 7:45 AM.  Quiet time so far.

Afternoon about 2:00, probably DNF perched on a Love Branch, then flew to one of the creek trees where probably MrN was perching.  MrN made a short visit to the nest about 3:30.

Was it Mr. N I saw sitting on the egg yesterday?

I keep watching, but due to my anthropomorfizing, I feel sad. It's happened other years and at other nests, but here I am anyway!

We get attached to the eagles, can't help it.  The Norths brought a stick and grasses early this morning, and MrN sat on the egg for an hour or so.  They are still attached to the un-eaglet.  It may become a petrified paperweight.   :'(

This morning, it appears that the Norths are done with the unhatched egg.  An early closeup view shows what might be more damage to the shell, or just dirt.  MrN sat on the egg for a while before flying away at about 7-15 AM. Then DNF deliberately covered the egg and nest bowl with grasses, then she flew away also.

And I was hoping they had finished with the unhatched egg.  The Norths, mostly DNF, were on and off the nest several times this morning before noon, but ignoring the egg although it is in view. DNF brought a cornstalk and later some grasses.  About 10:30, MrN brought a squirrel carcass to the nest, followed by DNF who claimed and ate it. Between 11:00 and noon, they perched together on Love Branches.  Don't we wonder wht they are talking about?

I will stop perseverating on the egg and just enjoy the Norths! ;) Thanks for the pics, STL.

No eagles in view so far today, but the you-know-what is still visible in the nest.
