I'm sad about the North nest failure also. We can hope that the Norths stay together as a breeding pair and have a successful hatch next year.
I was wrong about DNF not sitting on the egg any more!! This morning, there she was, and maybe also overnight. It's windy today and while the eagles were away from the nest, the breeze shifted corn husks over the egg. Will the Norths allow the egg to disappear into the nest while the egg bowl fills up with grasses and such?
This is the time when the parents would be feeding hatchlings, and MrN brought part of a rabbit carcass to the nest about 9:45 AM. Instincts are very strong.
No speculation about RRP retrieving the egg. They won't want to disturb the Norths, but keep watching.
