Interesting that local industrial sites can cause this in our neck of the woods:
This morning, a hyper-local snowfall in the Shakopee area and northern Scott County resulted in slick conditions on County Road 101 and US-169.— in Shakopee, MN.
This likely came from the industrial facilities in the area, which seeded the clouds and caused the localized enhanced snowfall!
Additional information on the "cloud seeding" part mentioned above. By definition, cloud seeding is the modification of weather to increase the cloud's ability to produce rain or snow, which is precisely what caused this localized event.
ALL precipitation begins with condensation nuclei. These tiny particles in the atmosphere allow water vapor to condense, forming water and ice particles, which then fall as rain or snow, depending on the atmosphere's temperature profile.
Industrial facilities, for example, emit an abundance of tiny particles [pollutants] that can help enhance precipitation [cloud seed]. This morning's very low cloud deck and the cold temperature profile were the perfect recipe for this enhanced moisture in the clouds to fall as snow in this very localized area.
