TGIF BEAKERS!! My LGN is still in the ICU. Her labs went in the wrong direction overnight last night. Ugh. She has to have normal labs for 48 hours to get discharged... so not before Sunday at the earliest now. I don't know if they have gone back to normal during the day today - haven't gotten an update since mid-morning. Her Mom (and 1 doc) are suspicious of a particular med that she started on a couple months ago as being the problem, but the endocrinologist is saying ix-nay on that idea. However, Mom (my niece) did some heavy duty research last night and found 3 - count 'em, 3! - published research results/articles saying that that particular same med that LGN started on a couple months back has been found to produce extreme potassium readings. That is one of a couple of main lab tests that was in the crazy way low out-of-whack reading when they first discovered a problem and sent her from the clinic at the hospital to the ER to get admitted this past Monday. It was so out of whack that the doctors initially said it had to be an error. But a re-test showed it was not an error. Extreme readings!! Mom (my niece) sent those 3 articles to her docs. I can't wait to hear the feedback! She lets nothing go without serious consideration, so I'm sure she will get some feedback. And I'm guessing the one doc who was suspicious of that med, the same as she was, will definitely have something to say about it. Might be news for the endocrinologist!
We'll see. It would be great if they can pinpoint the cause, and take the correct path forward to prevent it from happening in the future. Meanwhile... labs going up and down, and LGN still in ICU.
Thanks to ((All)) for sending your good wishes and prayers.
