Puff, It's the Semi-Finals in the Fat Bear Contestants, winners announced on Monday, then on to Finals Tuesday.

Oldguy, thanks for posting an update from Pat Conley. I'm glad to see his home was high enough and made it through the storm. The last video of Ruby and her cubs was posted 12 days ago, and they were heading uphill. I pray they continued their trek high up in the mountains... thanks for links.

Clynn, love Caturday pics... beautiful drive to Sun Tunnel in Glacier National Park, Montana... oh my, that waterline at the Biltmore  :(

Tsk, Thanks for bear video link.

waterling the trees... made a batch of cream cheese/mango crescent roll ups (will see how they taste later)
going to try making a version of a ramen bowl for supper... chicken broth, garlic, onion, spices, pulled chicken, ramen noodles, other veggies, hard boiled egg... just no chopsticks. I can use them, but, no need to at home. LOL.

PUFF  Nice catch at SW FL

LANI   Cute AM gif  ;D  Thanks for the links on our favorite winter nests  ;) ;)

This AM made applesauce after a trip to the Farmer's Market.  Smells good in here.  Then a batch of Trader Joe's " Everything but the kitchen sink cookies".  I make them a little smaller than described so Tim can have one after dinner and not feel bad.  Then made up 6 servings of grits for Tim if he wants them for breakfast.  That finished up the box and from now will be easier - portion wise to use the individual packages.

Now for lunch and a rest.

Gorgeous day here.

I hear ya on the watering...so dry. I'm not watering my mature deciduous trees, but am watering my 16 arborvitae....one row today of 9. I have the hose down on the ground with a slow water between each one with the timer set at 15 minutes...this will take me awhile. I'll do the other row tomorrow.
Resting now with this task after spending a few hours before watering annuals, some perennials, and windex spraying the outside of my windows.

Much still to do, but each day getting stuff done feels accomplished.

tsk I'd say we're having the same exact weather down south by me today - unusual.  Beautiful, warm, breeze, puffy clouds.

BTW just got back in - and just passed some of my hanging begonias.  I can't bring myself to pull out the bulbs.  They are blooming and have big lovely leaves.  Looking too good to touch them.  Not the same for everything.  Ate my last cucumber for lunch.  Decorative grasses at the front walkway have turned to yellow/gold/orange with fluffy white tassles being blown in the breeze.  Nice day all around.

Puff, when you get a freeze warning, bring the begonias in the garage and fix them. Why rush things. It is still early!

The watermark on the entrance gate to the Biltmore estate is shocking but glad it is down the hill a way from the house!   The house does not seem to have flooded!   I worked with a  doctor, in Asheville, who was a good friend of the Vanderbilt boys. Who  restored the house.  They had parties and wedding receptions there.   What fun then and how very, very sad now!

Howdy Beakers.....Happy Caturday!

tsk - Hope you are feeling better from the flu shot.  Ooops, reading along, I see you have been busy.  I bet the house does smell delish with the applesauce in the making.  I love grits, especially with extra butter and a lil salt on them. I Googled the cookie recipe, sounds yummy!

Lani - LOL, yes it sure did!  Beautiful pic from Brook Falls last night. Thanks for the SWFL videos.

oldguy - Thanks for the videos, especially the Q-Kids one.

clynn - I can see why you passed over the waxwings story and didn't want to read it.  I did the same, till I read your version!  ;D  Wow the waterline on the Biltmore entrance.

tig - Your ramen bowl sounds yummy!

Puff - Waving at ya!

karen - There you are...waving at you too!

Jeff and I went to Walmart early this morning, did a lil shopping, then came home unpacked and headed across the bridge to Outback for late lunch/early dinner.
Had not been to Outback in a while, it was so good.

Well we've done about all the damage to the damage we can do here in the form of chainsaw size wood chips to this NC mountain community without getting in the way of the "Pros from Dover" now coming into the region.

We have a clear path of egress back to the Garden State and we will be taking it back to NJ tomorrow in the late AM or early PM.
I fear a severe bonfire hootenanny is about break out here abouts on this mountain replete with all the Blue Mountain hospitality they are renowned for.
The weather is as sweet as it gets here at this time of year with the stunning Fall colors the area is known for.

74° clear dry low dew and calm winds now _ Low of 51° tonight here.

Instrument pickers poring into Brian's backyard impromptu 'campground' in pickup trucks from all the 4 cardinal points with lots of burnable wood, libations and spareable food, oh' Betty I just saw a fully cooked rotisserie pig go by ..

We've pretty much exhausted the available chainsaw gasoline on this Mtn anyway.
The gas that is still available here is now better served running power generators and vehicles at this point.

We, Brian & I, also agreed that we're probably using consumables better served to the locals as we do not have the supply chain that the Calvary that has now arrived has.

Us Yankee sawyers have preliminarily cleared things up enough to get peeps in/out of this very very tiny area.
The four C's of face to crying face of joy and being re-connected _ Connect, Communicate, Commune, Commiserate.

The big guns are here now & it's time to let them take the helm.
This is going to be a very long road ahead for this region and it may never look the same, but the gumption and spirit of here is remarkable.

These folks in the face of severe life changing disruption are an inspiration to me personally.   :)

I'm going to go personally inspect the structural integrity of this mason jar, that pork and just listen to the sweet age old sounds of the region bounce off of the surrounding mountains.

...

Bazi we're bouncing down that very path from Boone to Bowling Rocks.

A couple of chainsawing pike toting sawyers n the bead saw saw fit.

Lani  You seem to have caught another copulation - mine was earlier, it seemed more  time, more successful.  But you're so right on M bringing back a branch and actually seeing him grab it on the fly.  Good camera work - when he left the nest the camera followed way off to the picking area and grab it without even stopping.  Again camera followed it until it got back and dropped it on the nest.  Good work whoever - real good work.

Karen I take my begonia bulbs out of soil and bag them in chips that I keep kinda moist until spring.  Plant them in their pots in April and start giving them days in the sun when able.

Your so right about thee watermark on the brick entrance arch.  Very telling, very telling.

Anybody get up early and to get to see the dawning on the Mississippi?  Beautiful colors this morning, some layered clouds added to the picture.

HUGS to all

PUFF   My patio plants still look OK despite my neglect of them  ::) ::)  Like KB  I need to deep water my newer shrubs before a freeze sets in.

LISA  This was my best reaction to both Covid and flu shot this year.  Must be the formulas  LOL  Went to bed feely a bit icky but slept through.  No shoulder discomfort - The needles are real tiny now.  You don't even feel them.  Just buy the cookie box at Trader Joes and add an egg and 1 stick of unsalted butter.   We haven't been to an Outback in ages.  Our one in town just moved about 7 min away.

BL   Job well done.  Thanks for your observations.  Safe ride home.

Lani  Been saving begonia bulbs for years - especially as prices have risen.  Just pull them out of the dirt and put them in a bag of wood chips the way they sell them.  Sprinkle water maybe twice during their sleep.  They don't have to endure our winter freeze temps, mostly come back when I put them back in soil.  Of course winter freeze is not the same tween IL and AZ.   What helps is the garage is heated (helps house too since the garage is attached)  ???

Well, yesterday made it to mid 80's by me yesterday.  Today suppose to be lower, in the 70's.  Will have to take care of the feeders/water - make them happy.

P
