karen, so glad to hear that Piper can go back out in the yard, I am sure there are lots of new things to explore!  Are your new neighbors a family with kids?  I bet they will be watching out for you from now on. Did Dr. Hall's husband get all of the animals taken care of?

baz, I looked up Mountain City, it's a pretty little town. Just a tad larger than Albion where my Mom lives. Sam paws on the glass door when he wants in. The sliding door is open when it's nice outside so they can come and go as they please so when it's shut they have to let me know when they want in!  Boo Dook!

Wormsloe Plantation, Savannah Georgia - The entrance to the plantation is lined with over 400 live oak trees.

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown

Here’s how your cat experiences the world
Cats use the same five senses as humans, but they view the world differently. Understanding them could make us better cat parents.

Bl, think my propane tank is 250 gallons.  They fill at 80%% to allow for expansion in the heat. I am told that this will ooerate my house for 2 to 4 days.
We do not have natural gas in this subdivision.  I wish we did as I would prefe that continuous supply.   Also, great for cooking!

AlL in all, this is the most  yard waste I have ever had in the 30 years of living a little north or south of I 10. all in all, I am pretty grateful for my situation as there are many people in far worse condition than I find myself. I am extremely frustrated with my physical inability to get out and pick up the yard waste and move it, but that’s life when you’re older than dirt, I am hopeful that the fence repair will be done today so piper can get out and sniff her usual stomping grounds. The man across the street said he would do that .even though I didn’t think doctors made house calls Dr. halls  husband was coming here to fix the fence!   Now the man across  the street is doing that!

The new neighbor just moved in where Jackie lived!

We're loving it.
A community coming together.   :)

KAREN  God bless you new neighbor!!!  Coming together!  Piper's one happy dog  :)

CLYNN   Good shot of all three cats  ;D   Did Mom get a lot of damage and flooding where she is in Southern Il?   We've had strong winds way up here for 2 days now.

LISA    I'll give a summary at the end of next week on our situation.  Better than reading the daily day to day.

BAZI   Had your sister's family prepared head of time with non perishable food?  Sure wish they could be evacuated somehow.

From Reed Timmer the storm chaser:

"All roads in and out of Asheville, NC are still closed! It sounds like Asheville is still only accessible by air unless you head up from I26, and even then you will encounter closures before the city. This is an absolute mega disaster for western NC on the order of Hurricane Katrina"

A commenter under this post states that Brevard (where my friends live) had 45 inches of rain in 48 hours.

They need starlink for communication, helicopters, and the National Guard with water drops and more...etc.

I'll proffer my tonight thought and let it hang out like humidity here.

KarenG I would think long and hard about removing the live storm tested healthy Loblolly Pines from your property.

Inspection/pruning/maintenance if necessary are appropriate in about 6 months by a trusted reputable professional tree service.
Let the panic tree removal, price gouging and tree jobs supply/demand equalize.

All of the 'stuff' on the ground now is free from my tree canopy.
My latitude and longitude roots just don't move but yet I sure do sway and my hair is now combed.
I feel like a real lob stuff cleansed as the conifers blow.
It's all good for the good of the tree even rooted stronger now.

You could consider it as the most thorough free professional Mother Nature a pruning there is.

If they stood tall after Helene then there's a better than good chance they're "Solid" trees.

PROS
• Mother Nature just pruned & cleaned up your canopy way better than I could on my best chainsaw climbing day.

CONS of removing your trees if they survived Helene.
• The cost of full tree removal.
• Loss of curb appeal and aesthetics to your property.
• Shade from the south GA heat = big bucks in increased utility costs.
• Healthy storm tested trees around your home actually offer protection to your house from future high wind events.
• Critter habitat.

Think about your trees like Garp and an airplane crash.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTqz4duPdYQ

If the trees on your property withstood Helene what are the chances that another 1 of her strength are going to hit your house in your ownership of.

As a Certified and Licensed Arborist with over 25 years of experience I've seen way to many knee jerk reactions of homeowners denuding their entire property of perfectly healthy trees after major wind/weather events.

Once I cut them down for you they ain't getting replanted/replaced and offering their former tree benefits in your lifetime.

As a responsible human being and losing $$$$ cutting down perfectly healthy major storm survived trees we would advise the homeowner to reconsider and walk away.

Advising them that no doubt someone would come along and gladly take their money and perfectly good irreplaceable trees.

Dead/dangerous/diseased trees in very haphazard locations was our gig and forte.

I always said picked clean like a dandelion and it's gone clean to the stump.

We've managed to take out 1 window, 1 gutter and a 40 year old aluminum Sears shed in 30 years.

   NJ Cool cash compensated.

A 120' crane and operator that could pick a porcupines quill from a hounds nose and still leave it's tail a wagging.

I'm sitting next to him at this fire.    ;D

baz DOOKS stands for Duke?  NC did get out of town in time?

kb Something to think about - 45" of rain?  I am now down to 5"1"  that's 61".  Gives me a water mark just about the neck.   Those affected need every one who heard about  Helene to offer their share plus extra of the prayers.

tsk I keep forgetting to check in my total - nothing!  A big change from a week ago when I had 2"; you mentioned you had nothing.  Last week you had nothing, today was my turn.  We seem to be on opposite ends of the scale.  But we both had those hard winds though.

RIP Dear Etta.  :-*

Lori  Thank you for  the 'Penny Pics'  What a lovely prayer for all the animals.   Thank you for the wonderful Apple Pound Cake and  cute kittens doing their 'yoga' LOL.  Pretty Caturday kittens .
Oh, don't think  Destini will stay perturbed for long.  ;)

Karen sounds like your new neighbors are going to be kind and thoughtful . So nice they're going to help by fixing the fence for Piper   I have a neighbor across the street who got a Generac and that's the first thing she told me about them was the separate gas line leading
into the house, etc. They love theirs.   Your area is in a bad way ...sending 🙏 s .  :-*

CLynn I've always heard---'One cat is funny; two are a comedy, three are a riot."  ;D       Tks for some info on Mountain City.
Lining the main entrance to the larger plantations with trees  i.e oak. Andrew Jackson's Hermitage, in Hermitage Tn which isn't that far from us is
lined with giant Tulip Poplars  other wise knows as Tulip Grove.  etc.

Lisa I was just thinking your Caturday kitty  was a homage to Misty.  :-*

{{{Bazi and family}}}  the eastern third of Tennessee got some 'rough' stuff.  We're in Middle Tennessee (Nashville) and are blessed.
We've had only light rain today and much cooler temps.  Sending  you 🙏 s
That's so funny 'dem bones, dem bones' . But, ain't that the truth. LOL

Tsk how's Tim's recovery coming along?  Right along I'm sure with you nursing.  ;)

{{{Karen}}} just read  you last post---so glad you've met them and that Jackie gave them a bit of info on you and Piper. Hurrah the fence is fixed.
Plans for replacement in the future.

KB tks for report from  storm chaser  Reed Timmer . 🙏 s for Ashville NC

BL good advice

good advice, BL

I hate losing trees or any vegetation for that matter.

Like you said, it's never the same...My house got so much hotter when my front yard ash totally tipped over, root ball and all in our microburst...20 years later my Maple replacement finally reaches over my roof line and gives me shade....I cried for 3 days. Due west facing.

Also lost a half of my willow in back. Saved her for years but a second storm took her as well....

The entire mountain area between NC and TN got hit hard.  There are 4 rivers that flow into TN - French Broad, Pigeon, Nolichucky and Watauga.  All of them went out of their banks and cause a lot of flooding.  The first 3 all flow into the Douglas Lake, east of Knoxville.
French Broad starts to the SW of Rosman NC and flows thru Brevard, first major city of flooding was Ashville NC, it enters TN near Paint Rock NC
Pigeon starts near Hungry Creek NC -  I-40 follows it down the mountains into TN - major dam breach was reported at Waterville Lake Dam in NC which caused evacs for Newport TN, but this was confirmed by authorities that the dam was not damaged
Nolichucky starts from 2 rivers combining near Relief NC - first major flooding issue was at Erwin TN
The Watauga starts downhill from Mountain City - several creeks flow thru the city before flowing into Watauga Lake - all in TN, but the creeks start in the upper area of mountains in Northern NC.

This is the town that had to evac staff and visitors from the town's hospital - pull up google maps to follow from the southern end of Erwin at the hospital.

Bounce

Our new favorite... A mock margarita... Some clear pop (wimps), lime juice, Grand Marnier, tequila... Ice, and a lime (or any flavor) popsicle. Yum! Smiles.

Prayers for the south. Sigh.

Camper's som scheduled to come help tomorrow... dig a dead bush, transplant some Japanese Forest grass.
But not until after the Vikings beat that team from the east of us.
