So warm and cute watching little gooseling trying to follow M and D on that dunking thing they keep doing.  It does go underwater - like why am I doing this for? - but doesn't stay bottoms up for long.  The next thing would be to figure out what it's suppose to do while upside down.  MG and FG are right there giving pointers.   :D  About 9:25 nest time if you want the watch.

Forgot to post yesterday, but looked like HM perched upstream bluff side for a good while yesterday morning.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Hatchery-area Moms and Mom WannaBes

Eagles and Geese surprise us with their resiliancy and bravery as they raise families year after year.

Now that the maple tree leaves are out, it's getting hard to see adult eagles perching in the branches near N6.  I think the Pasture Tree is a maple!

STL - The first pic of yours, the BE this morning was on M2.  Mom, Dad Decorah and DM2 use to perch in that tree all the time.  It is good to see that HM or HD is using that tree now.

I remember M2 as a favorite perching spot for previous eagle pairs!  Thanks for the tree ID, Lisa.

Looks like the geese made it through the storms yesterday.  The piebald goose & mate are still paying some attention to the adopted egg.  I've become a doubter that it will hatch.  Cam ops got long distance views of two BEs perched high in trees way upstream from N1, too far for a decent pic, but it's probably HM & HD.

Around 5:16am this morning, raccoon came to nest, picked up egg, rolled it around, and left it.

Thank you for observing this and posting it, Lisa. I am surprised. I'd have thought a raccoon would chow down on an egg.

Looks like the raccoon was a young-ish one and didn't know how to get into the egg.  On rewind about 2:00 AM the raccoon rolled the egg, then dug under it in the damp nest materials before leaving.  Backing up the rewind to maybe 10 PM, the egg looks either damaged or dirty.  I vote for dirty, because the raccoon rolled the egg all around and the shell looked intact.

After daylight, the piebald goose cam back and sat again.  She is off and on the egg through 11AM.  Dedicated.

I love the little parades by the goose families!

About 2:30 this afternoon, some other goose pair visited N1 and even sat on the egg briefly while the piebald mom was away.  She and her gander returned and loudly chased the intruders away.

What's the story about the statue near the Hatchery Visitor's Center?
