Beautiful sunrise on Easter morning with a BE in view

Lisa, what a spectacular pic.

At N2B, a very quiet day.  On rewind, I didn't see N2BMG roll the eggs or leave the nest.  She did pull quite a few downy feathers to add to the nest.

At about 7:00 this morning, N1MG rolled her 6 eggs, then covered them and she and N1FG went for a quick breakfast just below the nest.  About 8:00, a male RWBB was displaying his red and yellow wing epaulets.  A wild turkey seen in the creek and bank below N1 about 4:00 this afternoon.

Watch the action at N2B today around noon!!  N2BMG honking and disturbed, then a second goose came to N2B, and N2BMG reacted by snapping and pushing at it.  Moments later, the gander arrived (N2BFG) and both attacked the intruder, which kept trying to get under N2BMG and onto the eggs.  Turns out, she was desperate for a place to lay an egg, which she did while under attack!!  Much pushing and shoving and biting, finally the intruder left.  In the melee, the new egg stayed and one of the "old" eggs got pushed to the edge of the nest.  N2BMG tried to move it back to the center but it rolled off the nest.  Whew!  Who knew geese did this kind of behavior?  Hope a better explanation and narration comes from Explore and RRP.  It's like the Monday Afternoon Fights on cable TV.

STL - That was some scuffle.  I have heard that some geese do egg dumps in nests with other geese who are incubating.  Their was a goose that tried to land on N1 a lil bit before this at N2B.  I have to wonder if it is the same goose.

It's like the old shell game over here. 

N2BMG laid a total of 5 eggs - 2 have fallen from the nest - 1 interloper MG laid 1 egg = 4 eggs ?

BL, your egg count seems correct.  We'll never be able to tell which egg belongs to the intruder who laid it. 
Lisa, I missed the goose trying to land at N1, but you could be right about the same goose attempting. 

Anyhow, things at N1 and N2B are quiet and snowy this morning.  Both adult geese at N1 overnight and some morning.  The MG is on eggs at N2B, male not visible.

Two adult-looking eagles were perched near the two nests at the same time -- see pics.  Could be HM and HD, or near-adult sub.  Makes me wonder about eagle eggs in that new nest we cannot see.

Here is my thoughts on the two BE's this morning.  I think HM was the one that was on M2, as she flew over to the one perched across from the pond and ejected it from the tree.

Good call, Lisa, on  the eagles this morning.  I didn't stay with the rewind long enough to see the ejection by HM.  And earlier, the eagle from the N1 area did a couple of beautiful fly-arounds, while HM watched.  All nicely caught by the cam ops.

At N2B today about 8:30, a second goose flapped in and N2BMG exchanged a little noise but not agitation, so it was probably N2BFG.  He stayed for a short while, then she rolled the 4 eggs.  The same happened about 9:15.  At about 1:00, N2BMG was startled by a squirrel running up the Skywalk branch past the nest.  She jumped up, flapped her wings, made a little noise, then settled back down.

At N1 area about 7:30AM, an adult BE perched in the top of a bluff base tree, then flew off, to be seen in branches above N1 (probably same eagle).  The N1 geese fussed a little.   Other birds on the move -- several turkey vultures perched up high at the far end of the creek upstream from N1 about 8:00 AM.  And a sub-adult BE was in that area about 2:00; cam ops followed a long fly-in, with the BE ending up in a tree near N1 until about 2:30.

A lil visit from HM this morning, before heading over below to bluffs to creek watch.  She stayed there for a while, then headed behind N2B area and perched atop a tree.
