What a commotion of yips, screams and barks the group of coyotes(?) made around 1 a.m. or so this morning.  And then, for the eagles to find a fairly freshly killed raccoon carcass lying outside their "neststep" for breakfast, makes me wonder if there was some sort of a pre-egg-laying celebration going on last night - and coyotes delivered a present for the event ;)

Hope the Pileated Woodpeckers continue their building efforts, and possible egg-laying?, efforts too.  Good morning to all...

MNLindaBird  I was thinking along the same lines MN.  Not only were we treated to an up-close-and-personal demonstration of carving out a nest, but we'll get the added bonus of peeking in during the hatch, we hope.

Several deer at the creek about 8AM.   Crows really noisy about noon today, and earlier geese maybe flying past.  MrN and DNF have been bringing variety of nest materials all morning.

Woodpecker near the nest about 8:30 this morning, and a deer passing by under the nest about 10.  The Norths have been bringing grasses and leafy branches all morning.

Afternoon bathing and preening. Pretty sure my pic from 12:30 is DNF in the creek, then branches south of the nest for preening.
Next set is MrN.

Here's MrN this afternoon.  He probably had a bath also, but I didn't see it on the rewind.
Cam ops got wonderful closeups of preening and it's great on the rewind.

Action around the nest area today.  Hairy woodpecker about 8:00, upside down at the branch holding the nest on the left.  Geese in the pasture at the same time.  Pileated woodpecker male whacking away at a tree behind the nest at about 10:30, and I think the female shortly after that but no pic of her.

The Norths spent the night in the Love Branches. Didn't see mating, but maybe.

The Norths have been excavating and aerating the nest, then they added more grasses and sticks.  DNF brought a fish for her own lunch, and MrN tested the fit of the nest.  She flew to the creek for a nice splashy bath, then flew to the Twiggy tree to preen and spent a couple of hours doing that.

Same activity today as yesterday: nest work, mating in early morning, then more nest work, and DNF perching in the same area as the early mating.  I think it's south of the nest, across from where the cows come and go.

Did I miss anything exciting on Friday the 9th?

This morning, a sub-adult visited the Love Branches then perched nearby for a while.  The Norths chased it off, then they spent time on the nest hollering and arranging materials and being close to one another.

The Norths are working diligently on the nest, bringing sticks and softer stuff so far today.  MrN has checked the fit several times.  They are both also on alert as crows and geese are having a noisy time, but no eagle visitors sighted as of 1:30 this afternoon.

Deer active before daylight, this morning at the creek, and maybe an owl perched nearby.  Deer seen under the nest when the light was better but no pic.  The Norths mated on the Ladder Branch about 7:00, then settled on branches maybe south of the nest tree. Another beautiful sunrise.

The eagle action this morning will take more than one posting!  Besides more nesting materials and 3 fish from MrN, there have been 3 matings by my count, and all before noon!  They are really celebrating Valentine's week and the KC Chief's second in a row Super Bowl win!   :-*   :-*   :-*
