CLYNN & TSK Did you know "wauwatosa" means firefly? This summer there have been many fewer than in the past. Yesterday's 101 degrees was a record. It was being mentioned that since they began record-keeping in the late 1800's that we have only reached 100 degrees about 30 times! It was not pleasant! (AND I do not have a/c.)

jilltosa, that is very interesting! Definitely a Native American name! I haven't seen many fireflys either. Sad. Also alarming, I haven't been seeing many birds at my bird feeders, and haven't seen a squirrel in weeks! My sister lives in Oregon, many don't have A/C there either, but the climate is changing. They have had many more HOT days in recent years. This heat is very oppressive.

CLYNN My sister lives in eastern Oregon, in the "chunk" that is on Mountain Time since it is close to Boise, Idaho. Beautiful country!

Jilltosa good to see you but sorry about the heat! I have seen ads fora small box thingy that you plug
in and it will cool a room!   Check with a big box store and see what is available!  Might be sold out.

Hearing aids are fixed and I will pick them up this afternoon.   Perfect dog chewed the right part!

Clynn, how was day one at school for Bella?

Phyl, hope Jim gets better soon and Lisa, the same for your mother!

clynn - I do need to try the other Suddenly Salad's, but I love the bacon ranch one, that I never pick up the others.  Wowza, that is a long stick that Iris brought in.

((jilltosa))
- I hope you kept cool somehow with no AC.

Phyl - For Jim....

karen - Yay, on your hearing aids!  Thanks for the well wishes for Mama.  She is alot more perky than past days.

JILLTOSA   Mom used to go to a spice shop on North Ave - but thanks for the current location.  Maybe they moved ages ago  Gosh Jill no A/C - do you have a basement?  Fans?  ( Dyson makes a good one).  Wauwatosa has a " Firefly" art fair every year that is quite successful.  My Bro and Sil go every year and usually end up with something.

CLYNN   Big stick  - wonder how Iris will decorate with it.  Kind of like buying a piece of furniture for home and not measuring first to see if it will fit  LOL   Like Karen I'm wondering how the first day of school went for the kids.

CLYNN You mentioned Penseys Spices -- yesterday it was 101 at "their home" and a record for the day! Their location does not often get to 100. It was not pleasant!!! (Yes, I live near Penseys.)

Hi Jilltosa! great to see you!!! I hope you're doing well and keeping cool.  ;D :-*

{{{Jilltosa}}} I know you're keeping cool somehow.... Take care  :-*

Clynn, Mike built the Austin plant about 8 years ago or more. Remember when he fell outside his car a year and a half ago, he was driving to his plant in Texas? Well, now he's moving the plant to Houston. A large company bought the land where the Austin plant is sitting and now it needs to be moved. He's been given two weeks to do this, Sept 1st is deadline. It'll be done. Nothing to do with training. He has a well trained staff and they will move to Houston too.... Also, he's organizing a possible move of the Reserve/La Place, Louisiana plant to West Monroe soon. They're in the process of buying land in West Monroe and will go from there. Busy, busy for someone who will be 80 in November... {{{Iris and Keebler}}}... I have no words for the idiot on the ladder! I'd have my cell phone handy, but no popcorn, I'm afraid I would choke if I did see him fall. And what good is that if I can't call 911.  :-\

Lisa, Good to hear your mom is getting stronger and up. Boy, this really hit her didn't it. Being exhausted from her trip probably added to it. Prayers for her continued healing 🙏 ..... Mike had a non-stop flight to Austin, picked up a rental car and called me around midnight central time and let me know he was checked into Hilton. I love the Suddenly Salad Classic Pasta. I add chunks of summer sausage, heirloom cherry tomato, greek or black/green pimento stuffed olives, chop red onion, celery, more olive oil and italian seasoning to the mix.

Tsk, I hope Tim had a good night's sleep. I'm sure these past three days wasn't relaxing for him. Mike settled into his hotel about midnight central time. I could tell he was tired, though he said he was fine...  I feel guilty saying it's a lovely cool morning, high will be 81, humidity 51% it's suppose to rain. Take care  :)

Phyl, I'm sorry Jim is ill, I hope Jim feels better soon... thanks for RRP blog.... pretty sunrise at the Flyaway!

Just checking in - beautiful, downtown Darien just made triple digits.  Really ugly figure is the "feels like 139."  It says contributing to uncomfortable is 59 humidity.  I don't believe them.

Just 'membered -- I have to pick up a prescription.  Not bad, AC in car will be my friend.  But then when I get home I have to walk down to get the mail and the newspaper (I know, should have done that earlier, like 5AM.)  While I'm out I'll stop for chopped salad, Portillio.

They said a cold front (?) should start moving in about 3P or 4P.  Y'all have to remember I'm a Rocky Mountain girl.  I prefer snow over sweat - you can brush off flakes, smelly sweat just clings to the body all over head-to-toe, on skin, inside and on top clothes.  Runs down your face, neck, legs, boobs.  Yep my vote is for snow not sweat.  Also, I've never heard anyone brag  over  how pretty the sweat looks.  (We won't talk about how snow looks a couple days later.)

Hey tsk I've been meaning to ask if you saw/read the Trib on Tuesday with the article on the local monarch upswing.  The article started on the front page and then all of page 5.  Focused on a couple in Berwyn, pictures included.  Their yard is all grown over and filled with plantings.  They've become one of those people who have nary a blade of grass to be seen.  Some of the growth is taller than they are.  Not together like yours.

cloudy, overcast - warming to 80

Karen - Sounds like a good system that works out for you & Piper  :)    Hope they were able to 'fix' your hearing aides. :)

Lani - No we never got any more rain than just a few drops a few days ago and it was not enough to measure in the rain gauge.   Just read that Mike will be in Texas soon - too warm  ::)

Tsk - I bet Tim was so glad to get home!   Just read that Tom is doing better - and glad Barb is back home!  :)

Oldguy - Hope you are a little cooler today!

Baz - Not sure how I will make it 'my own' on the Suddenly Salad  ;)   Yumm! You had something good to eat yesterday!

Kb - Yeah - too hot for a walk!

LisaG - Sounds like a good working situation for Jeff  :)   Hope your Mom feels a lil better each day - but it does take a while!

Phyl - Thank you  :)    Awe, hope Jim feels better soon - lots of rest and hydration  :)

Hi Jilltosa!

Clynn - Oh my - that last picture you posted! :o ::)  Did the Munchkins have a good first day at school? ;D

Beakers have a nice Thursday and try to stay cool.

Well I lost another monarch today.  Emerged beautifully but like the other one must have fallen from his chrysalis where she hangs until wings are full pumped up.  I've never seen this happen before.  Placed her outdoors on my impatiens but her wings were all bent and non functional.

Had a gentleman from the garden club come today and cut 80 % of my milkweed pods and we put them in two kitchen garbage bags.  He will dry them and give them to others.  He is 80 and will run a half marathon in California soon with his son  ;D

Comcast guy just left after 90 minutes of switching out our archaic boxes for all the new technology - Cute kid - Loves cats and took a pic of Lulu before she took cover  LOL.  He has a ginger and a lighter orange mix with tabby.  I saw pics.  Sent him and garden club guy off with tomatoes and cukes and water. YAY

LANI  And Iris truly is balancing on 1 leg just to show us. :D    Mike has a lot of work ahead of him but good staff to help get it done.  That's a good recipe you created with the Suddenly Salad.  I jotted a few notes on that one. ;)   It is officially 100 now as I type but temps to "plummet" over night and be in the 70's tomorrow - Seems hard to believe.

PUFF   I don't get a newspaper but maybe I can find it on line in some form. Thanks for the heads up  - I'm interested.

Karen- I have seen reviews on that product, it is a very small swamp cooler.  Works ok in dry climate, such as the SW US. But not so much in high humidity, as it is just adding more water to the air. In the review, it dropped the temperature by about 10 degrees in a small room in Arizona

Lani - I am copying down your add-ins for the Suddenly Salad Classic Pasta, that sounds really good!  Glad to hear that Mike arrived safely in TX!  Beautiful pic of Iris.

Puff - I am dying laughing over here at your description of sweat!

E4E - Thank you, and you are right it does take a while to feel better. I hope your Mom & sis are feeling better.

tsk - Awww, so sorry to hear about another butterfly.  Do you think it might be the heat?

oldguy:)

Have a good night, everyone!
