Our bears are real, a Chinese zoo says, denying they are 'humans in disguise'

BEIJING, China — A zoo in eastern China is denying suggestions some of its bears might be people in costumes after photos of the animals standing like humans circulated online. The sun bears from Malaysia are smaller than other bears and look different but are the real thing, the Hangzhou Zoo said Monday on its social media account.

“Some people think I stand like a person," said the posting, written from the bear’s point of view. “It seems you don’t understand me very well.”

An employee who answered the phone at the zoo declined to talk about the bears but said visits were being arranged for reporters Monday to see them. Internet users questioned whether the zoo’s bears were real after photos circulated showing one standing upright on slender hind legs. Some social media users said the folds near the bear's backside appeared similar to what an ill-fitting costume would look like on a person.

"Wrinkly seat happens when the back rise is too long. requires a tailor to shorten the back rise by pinning the pants up to the waistband, removing excess material, and then dropping the crotch seam, so as to not give the wearer a wedgie," Derek Guy wrote on Twitter.

“Because of the way they stand, some people online question whether they are ‘humans in disguise,’” the newspaper Hangzhou Daily said.

Sun bears are the size of large dogs, standing at most 1.3 meters (50 inches) tall on their hind legs, compared with up to 2.8 meters (9 feet) for grizzlies and other species, according to the zoo.

Other Chinese zoos have been accused of trying to pass off dogs dyed to look like wolves or African cats, and donkeys painted to look like zebras.

Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species -- man -- acquired significant power to alter the nature of the world.

karen - Keep up the good work, and call on the HH's when you feel you need them.

kb - I agree with that you said, it is worth sharing for other people to hopefully not find themselves in the same unexpected situation.  I will be honest.  I never read my homeowners policy, nor does my State Farm agent call when there is changes to it.  I had no idea after Hurricane Sandy that they automatically increase the deductible on our policy.

Lani - Yes, I am starting to get a complex over the baby name and no visitor thing.  Is it me?   ;D  ::)  Aww, thanks for posting the new TRR addition.

tsk - Wish I could say today was a success at dealership.

tig - Good idea on having a professional remove the hive.

Phyl - Thanks for link to newborn isolation at home.

E4E - Thanks!

T40 - That's a bear in the 3rd pic?   :o

baz
- OMG, that is too funny!

I have been sitting at dealership since 9:30am, and around 1:45 the advisor comes out and tells me that they are still waiting on payment approval from the extended warranty place.  I said, I will wait another hour to see if you get approval.  At 3pm, he comes out and says, I have very good handwriting, and I said yes you do, he says, they are in a fuss over a $9 charge!  He then tells me, to take a loaner home and will call me when he gets approval.  I hope this is not gonna take as long as it did to find out if they were going to cover it.

Lani - Peyton ran on Sat. night in the 3rd heat race - 75 runners total, split into 5 races, based on their personal best time.  So they were competing against other of similar speed.  Heat 5 was the fastest runners.  Here is a link to the complete results...

Good Evening Beakers! I had the Munchkins today instead of tomorrow, and they are home now! I have had my little rest and my adult beverage... I am still tired, woke up too early this morning! The last pic is of the Munchkins after they picked up Rome from the groomer!

Lisa, oh no, there is nothing worse than waiting and waiting and thinking they have forgotten you... I am hoping the kids change their mind, and let at least ALL of the grandparents  in to see the baby. There was no such thing when Bella was born, the whole clan was at the hospital, and many friends as well. And Bella was fine... I wonder if they would allow more if everyone wore masks? IT'S NOT YOU!

T40, that bear has a baggy butt.

baz, love the Helen Wait!

kb, the article you posted says they are required to call your attention to the changes. We have our insurance through an Independent Agent, we used to have a really good one that would call us if something important changed. Not the insurance company, but the independent agent. Now we just get the notice. Where do you find the list of the states that are required to actually call you?

Clynn, i thinkI would have had two adult beverages!   Fun time for them and you tho!  Good catch on the insurance issue!   Happy to say my agent lives across the street!

Lisa, I think a mask should solve one of the problems and in time I guess the name will be spoken!  Otherwise, Baby will suffice!  What a nasty predicament!
I’m  sorry they did not give you a loaner to drive home when you got there!  9 dollars!

OG, you are up on things!   Lani,  wish your family had come to visit while they were so close, relatively speaking!

Hope all have a nice evening!   Nice gentle cooling breeze here!   Put up a fresh feederfor the hummersand gave the hanging basket a drink!  It was lookimg ready for the trash!

Hi E4E -being outside is very healing and 'green'  esp. Nature's green is calming and rejuvinating as per a Nat Geo digital article

Karen-what is the name of the service you're using?  I see 'Visiting Angels' advert a lot.

Bazi-LOL 'Helen Wait'

T40- that same mention about the bears in Chinese zoo being humans in bear costumes was on FNC off and on all AM.  Just look at the photos you posted. They're
telling!  The CCP must think their people are idiots and will swallow any ridiculous concoction. ::)

{{{Lisa}}}

OG thank you! for posting the link to Peyton's race. Later tonight I'm gonna watch the video.

CLynn- luv the Munchkin photos. How are Talon Bella and Rome doing w/o Gunner I wonder.   Hellgate Osprey --yes and she's lovely. Tks for update

Tsk-finally pictures of your butterfly farm. I guess that makes you an "Lepidopterist".  I enjoyed the photos and hoping more to come as they grow and are released.   ;)
Congrats on the new releases this AM. "Live long and prosper."
