Aryana Hummingbird: Wingersizing with a Full Crop Feb 10, 2024
In this video, Eros & Faith are 12 & 13 days old, respectively. My, haven't they grown! Big happenings here: Aryana feeds her babies while perched on the nest rim and shifts to a lower, off-camera branch. She also hovers--a flight maneuver that no other bird species can manage. Notice also that her chick has a very full crop (i.e. the food pouch that looks like an inflated balloon on its neck). They're eating really well, obviously! One last thing, super cool: The chick on the left is wingersizing!

Aryana Hummingbird: Nestling Behaviors at 13 & 14 days oldhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDBBSnzEjCAFeb 11, 2024
Aryana is a non-migrating Allen's Hummingbird who lives in the coastal area of SoCal. She's raising her first clutch of the 2024 mating season in a Gartenmeister Fuchsia.
In this video, Aryana's chicks (Faith and Eros) are 14 and 13 days old. Where did the time go? And how did they get so big, so fast? Watch them eating, wingersizing, preening, and sleeping. Meantime, mama's filling their crops, foraging for insects on her favorite leaf, adjusting the nest fluff, and doing "nestorations." Fledge Watch* is just days away, so don't blink!
