This nest is almost ready to start fledging.  All have been branching for almost a week now.

Report came in Tuesday from last years pair - Both are near the southern shores of Lake Superior and only about 50 miles apart.

One of the eaglets left the nest yesterday afternoon - here is a quote from chat  with a twitter link.

In this video as the eaglet jumps off the branch you can see him in the air next to the Arconic sign on the left side of sign. He then flaps his wings and ends up landing in a lower tree to the left. The one on the tp is watching him as he lands.

In this video you see the same as before but I extended the screen to the left. He jumps his wings are flapping and now watch the lower most left corner of the screen and you will see him land in a tree lower to the ground.

As of this morning he is still hidden somewhere and has not returned to the nest.  Note: posted time is PDT on the chat board.

The wayward eaglet completed his fledge last evening at 6:36pm nest time.  He is still at the nest this morning.

Eaglet #2 flew/hopped to a branch off camera and returned to the nest just before #1 returned.

And now we are down to only 1 in the nest.  A second eaglet has fledged sometime Monday morning.

The focus on the cam is so poor that the cam has a hard time getting into focus with the wind blowing - so they have had problems reading  the numbers on their bands.  And they have not been able to get the nice sharp vids like Decorah, to be able to make any head characteristics comparisons for longer range IDs.  So they don't know if they have fledged in hatch order or not. :(

update;
They were able to see the band/numbers around 1720 today on some closeup shots - but not the complete number.

They have confirmed that all 3 have now fledged.  The last one was confirmed by its transmitter location that it went out past 3 trees before returning to the nest for a meal.

This is a closeup of the old nest today, after the storm damage last night.

Extreme cold the past few days at the nest - no sign of the Parents.  Did have a juvenile stop by briefly at the nest yesterday.

The juveniles from this nest for the past 2 years have all checked in with their transmitters within the past 2 weeks.  They are scattered - Star is in south central Wisconsin along the Blue river, Sky is now just north of Burlington, Iowa, Mercury is south and east of St. Louis, Gemini is south and west of Peoria, Illinois and Apollo is near Springfield, Missouri.

Happy New Year to all that visit here - should start to see some activity after the weather breaks.

This nest had it's first egg on Feb 16th - There has not been any additional eggs laid.  The nest has been having more than 1 juvenile and a sub-adult landing on the edge of the nest several times.  The video is not working any better than last year, with mostly spinning arrows.  The site manager has not posted a new thread since the 16th.  It has taken me 45 minutes to get this little bit of info and no good screen shots.  I will not be doing many updates for this nest this year. :'(

Another nest has the season ending early.  :'(

From the Arconic web site:  March 19, 2018

Sad End To Nesting Season
I want to acknowledge what many of our viewers have seen since Friday.

Late Friday afternoon another eagle attacked Liberty while she was tending to her egg in the nest. The intruder was eventually driven off, but not before inflicting some wounds to Liberty. What we did not know at the time was the egg may have been damaged in the fight. Liberty and Justice continued to tend to the egg on Saturday. However, Saturday night they left the egg unattended and on Sunday the egg disappeared from view. I have seen what looks like at least part of the egg this morning, but I think it is unlikely the egg would be viable at this point. Liberty & Justice continue coming to the nest, but seem confused about this turn of events as well.

It has been a topsy turvy season for eagles this year.  It just went weird Monday at the Arconic nest in Davenport.

http://www.kwqc.com/content/news/Goose-lays-egg-in-eagle-nest-480053433.html

And from the Arconic web page  -

Crazy Stuff Going On
Just when I thought there would be nothing left to watch...it changes quickly. This nest seems to be for rent by the hour. Eagles in, then Geese in, then eagles in, then geese lay an egg, then eagles in...and it continues. Nothing we can do but watch and see what happens.

In the meantime Sky, Mercury and Gemini are having a reunion across the river from the nest.

It does appear that the goose and egg have been evicted from the nest, no sight of either this morning in the cam.
