Congratulations Jackie and Shadow, on the second egg laid of the 2021 season! Shadow comes in soon after Jackie lays the egg and after a while gets to see it. It doesn't seem like Jackie wants to get up and Shadow leaves the nest pretty quickly. At least this time he saw the egg. The first egg got eaten by ravens. Hopefully they'll have better luck with this one.

About the nest: The nest is located at
Big Bear Lake, California. It is about
145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine tree. The nest is the current home for Jackie and Shadow, a local bald eagle pair.
What is happening at the nest? Jackie laid her 1st egg on
January 6th. Shadow was unaware an egg had been laid and did not visit the nest the following day as he does often. Jackie left the egg unattended and ravens came in and preyed on the egg. There is a good possibility Jackie will lay a 2nd egg on or around
January 9th so stay tuned!
Q-How do you tell Jackie and Shadow apart?
A-Jackie is larger than Shadow. Jackie?s beak is both longer and thicker from top to bottom than Shadow?s.
