This posting is a little out of the topic, but what is true about the Eagles is also true for the Sandhill Cranes.  Fortunately, I am not aware of any windfarm next to the Platte River.  I'm afraid that someone will sneak in a windfarm.  The taxpayers are offering a great pile of money to the power companies to build wind farms.

Thanks for the info, Gene. There is a thread in the forum for info like this, "Off Topic" then "Wind Farms Versus Eagles."

There was a proposal for a wind farm near the whooping cranes' area in Texas and the community wasn't happy. Don't know what happened with the proposal. The sandhill cranes are having a little more trouble in the Sandhills of western Nebraska, which you're probably aware of. And then there's the Keystone pipeline to deal with...  Seems like it's always something!  :-\

Look for sandhill cranes in Eastern Iowa

Sandhill cranes in flight over Cone Marsh in June. The main dike, accessed east off V Ave, can be a great trail to walk for a chance at a flyover. Walk east down a short, grassy access road and you are there. (Brando Caswell/correspondent)

Let there be lights, to help migratory cranes avoid power lines (great idea!)

Hundreds of thousands of sandhill cranes stop along the Platte River in the midwestern U.S. to rest and refuel on their annual migrations. They often travel at night, so the ACAS system's aim is to help cranes and other birds see power lines and other human structures in the dark, enabling them to safely reach their destinations. 600,000 cranes descend upon rural Nebraska during the world's largest crane migration, and it's a spectacular sight
