Daily Updates
Tasha, Lucky - UPDATE August 25, 2016
25 August 2016
Print Email
Tasha was out a lot today, which meant Lucky was confined. It was Curator Sharon?s day off and we wanted to wait until she is here to supervise before putting them out together. Tasha's favorite place...in the back of the enclosure.

Tasha spent time in her day bed back in the woods.

A brief update this evening because Lynn is working under a deadline on another project.

All is well.

Thank you for all you do.

The photographer was fortunate to be able to catch this ferocious black bear without being attackes.  Ted..

I really overslept as I was exhausted from trying to win that game against the Royals.  All I can say is we'll get them next time.

I wish all of you the best of Fridays, the last one in August, this year.

It took me 4:21 to determine I was not going to climb that ladder.

"As I have never ridden a horse I spent 6:57 walking the course."  I loved your response!  :D

Rues, thanks for the allergy patch testing, I'd only heard about those and guess I never googled images.  :D  That must drive a person nuts it any got itchy!  I can understand him and his truck.  What kind is it?  Congratulations on the new car!!  That's nice when a person can have other things do when making a doctor visit so far away.  LaCrosse is "only" 3 hours round trip (1 1/2 each way), but by the time you spend that much drive time for a 15 minute appointment, good grief.  Usually if Joe has to go up there we try for a mid morning or so time and then go to Culver's or somewhere for lunch.  There are a few other places I'd like to stop, but there has been a lot of road construction up in the part of town where I'd like to go with the new bridge they've been putting across on the north end of town (highway 90).  There's been one there, but I think they are making this one wider.  It'll be nice when it's all done.

It's 64 and partly cloudy and wonderful out and it's NOON!!!

OH I LOVE THAT DOG SHAME!!!!!!!!!  Gotta give that one to my sister, she had an old dog she rescued from a former neighbor and that could just about double for old Hector.

How high is that wall the guy was leaping against (I assume to catch a ball, did he?)!!!

Ted's head tilt is wonderful and smile.

Where has this month gone JP, wow.

Here are the pictures I took down at Vernon yesterday, the first day after the high water in the Turkey River I posted the day before.  Hard to believe it could go down that fast!

The wall is about 11 feet and yes, he caught the ball, which was over the wall and so he robbed the Marlin batter from having a home run.  Probably saved the game for the Royals.

And prevented that dolphin from doing it's thing; which Cal and her Sis did not want to see happen!   ;D

Cal, I would be scared too.  I will be keeping you and your state in my prayers tonight.  Looks like you all have flooding too.

BTW, if you are near Polo, well, you live out in the boondocks girl!  There is not much around there.  lol  (looked it up on google maps)

Everyone else, stay safe this weekend.  Crazy weather.

Sharon.

Hello, everyodne.  I can't cheer this morning as I am  not too peppy.  Glad to be here, though.

I hope everyone is feeling fine and that your Saturday will be pleasant.

Daily Updates
Tasha, Kimani, Samantha, Cubs - UPDATE August 26, 2016
26 August 2016
Print Email
Tasha was out from about 8:40 AM to 1:40 PM?mostly at or near her day bed near trees and nearly out of sight. The viewing area lacks the safety of trees. Tasha
Tasha
In her last 10-15 minutes of being out, Holly stirred action. She approached. Tasha loped ahead toward her pen with Holly loping behind, not trying to catch up. At her pen, Tasha noticed that Holly was no longer behind her. She stayed outside. She went back the Kimani's cub
Kimani's cub
way she?d come. Then she came running into her pen and onto the roof of her shelter with a tree handy by the roof. Ted was making friendly sounds. Holly was patrolling outside Tasha?s pen with the door closed by staff. Sometimes Tasha doesn?t want to play.

At the WRI, Kimani and Samantha?s families mingled in the woods with the two mothers grunting to their cubs as if concerned. Another bear startled them. All 6 cubs leaped up two trees, cubs from each litter up each tree. The pictures show them posing on the tree trunks. All are looking roly-poly as their guard hairs grow in length and stand ever more straight out as their underfur grows in.

In Montana, legendary bear research pioneer John Craighead turned 100 on August 14. He and his twin brother Frank did the early ground-breaking grizzly bear research in Yellowstone National Park until 1971. 20160826 JohnCraighead
John Craighead
That?s when the park made a policy change that cost a lot of bears their lives. The Craighead brothers spoke out and were banned from further research in the park. They did so much good on so many fronts in their lifetimes. Frank died at 85. John is shown at age 92. They were always good to me.

Thank you for all you do.
