hi rues! no we are not getting more business or people in my town. i think i read somewhere this will run thru another state or something. i am not sure. not even sure we will be hooked on it. that is scary all them propane tanks at that bridge! well i have to see what kind of deal pete will give me. regular price is 136.00 and it would have to be at least half for me to do that and that would be costly on five. i paid that for mom cat. got to go to the barn a d then come in and feed kittens and cats! my hamster my goobie is so big and fat he was going up his yellow half tube deal too the second floor he was sqeezing thru the hole in the floor up there. i had to give him a push! i put pea ut butter crackers in the bars of his cage two on the bottom one at top. he loves those and his hamster food. may have to cut down on them crackers!

What a little goofball, even has a rubber ducky!  She's so darned cute and fun to watch.  Thanks for the two video links of her playing.

That generator sounds safer than the small gasoline powered ones.  Hope you like it!  You should.  My gosh Cal, put Goobie on a diet, that CAN'T be good for him, especially if he's getting stuck in his tubes!  :o

That IS scary about all those propane tanks.

Joe's appointment went great.  Dr. R gave him more exercises to do.  Joe goes back in two months.  Joe asked about weight limit and Dr. R said 5 pounds.  Joe said he thought it would have changed this visit.  Dr. R said "it did, I took the 2 out of 2 to 5".   :D

I think we were in the 70's today, down to 68 now.  They say 54 tonight! (Insert jumping up and down emoticon.)

I'll work on the puzzle after the news.

Oh when we got home today I was getting a couple things out of the truck and Joe went around the corner of the house to get the mail and I heard him say "hey there Chester" when he opened the front door.  He no more than said it and that dog came barreling around the corner of the house to me.  I think for now anyway I'm his person.

It has been a rough week.  I rinsed and dried that doggy in 7:27   ;)

So today, I called BeeBusters, cause I have a honeybee problem in the cavity of one of my exterior walls.  When they opened up my drywall, they removed 5 lobe shaped honeycombs.  YIKES.  No, it gets better folks.  They also cleared out a rat's nest!  This all from a space that is just 45" X 16" open area that had an entrance through that hole necessary for running the lines necessary to connect an outside HVAC unit to the indoor cooling coil.  You would think that I live on a farm   :D  This set me back $325 and now I still need to make the repairs to make sure to close up the hole so nothing else gets in there, fill the vacant space with insulation that is packed into that area and repair the drywall. The guy had to cut through the wallpaper border that I have at chair rail height on the wall which divides two separate colors of paint.  Since I no longer have either the border nor more of the lighter green and darker green paints.

Looks like we are going to be having a painting party next weekend!!  The guy told me to leave everything alone for 5 days.  If there are anymore bee sounds, I should call them to come out again, free of charge.  I know I can probably do this repair myself.  I am going to use that foaming spray to close any holes to the outside and then use some galvanized aluminum to wrap around the stuff outside, so nothing can try to get close to the sealed holes.  Hopefully that will take care of the problem.  Of course that calls for a painting party!!!  It was my son's room.  He's in the Marines now, so I guess it is time to make it the official "guest" bedroom.  Gone will be the green theme.  It has always been the boys room, so it has gone through blues and greens, always dark in that room.  But the boys always liked it, they picked out the color of that room for the last 28 years.  Okay, maybe not that long, since I picked the nursery color - light blue.   ;D  Yes the testicles will be cut from that room.  I know I will pick something vanilla colored, lighten that room up.  Maybe give it an accent wall in a tan color (like the sand on the beach kind.)

Gee, I just read all this back and I have to say, I am a talker!   :)  Well, you all have a really swell Thursday.  JP, I hope all went well at your eye doctor's.  Cal, so glad to hear you don't have to worry about those kitties. Nora, looks like Chester has you designated "Mama"  He sure is a lucky boy to have found such a welcoming family.  Hello Rues, Blschue and Ra!!!  It is always so interesting to read what you all share.  Hello to those that just read too.  Hope I entertained you all a bit today.  Peace, Eaglette.

Ray.  A little guy in 2014

I  got back last night and all was good.   Doctor said my eye still had a small amount of liquid so he did not want to extend the period.  I go back in 8 weeks.  August 24.  My eye had some pain last night but I slept good and here I am but still a little pain.  I will catch up on reading the posts and getting organized.

I see the Marlins lost two games to Detroit.  Sometimes they can really screw up a ball game.

Oh, I hate that.  I type without looking at the screen all the time and occasionally I accidentally hit the caps lock key.  I just did that and I have to retype a whole slew of words.

I'll be all right when I get a litte older and pay more attention to what I am doing.

I hope to read where you all have had better weather, heat wise.

Daily Updates
Changes for Tasha - UPDATE June 29, 2016
29 June 2016
Print Email
Dr. Rogers is still busy working on papers. Staff is filling in for him tonight with a brief update.Tasha
Tasha

This afternoon Tasha was moved to the larger bunker den pen.  This will allow Lucky and Holly to make visits to the smaller pen adjacent to Tasha. She is secure and Holly and Lucky are not able to get in her den.  It?s time for closer visits with Tasha and for the bears to get better acquainted.

Staff gave her some fresh straw to make a bed in the larger bunker den. She loved rolling around and raking in the fresh straw. We?ll have to see if she uses the straw to make a bed. A Lily Fan caught the action on video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuRrlVvvj2A.

Some notes from Sharon Herrell today.

As you can see Tasha posed nicely for a picture of her eye. Her eyes speak volumes. Tasha likes her back rubbed and is now responding more and more a good back rub to help remove her winter coat. Today she rubbed her back against her den door. Her muzzle is soft and she is very vocal, she has a deep voice.

Thank you for supporting the NABC and the WRI

Oh my, little Ray looks like a teddy bear hung on the tree!!!  :)

It's 61 out, I LOVE it!!

I'm glad your eye is doing ok JP.

Oh eaglette!  It's a shame you have to fix the wall, but good you had someone come out to take care of the renters you had, winged and four-footed.

The Bear Center is sure impressive looking at night, wow!

Daily Updates
Tasha, RC, Sophie, Big Harry, Victor, Turtle - UPDATE June 30, 2016
30 June 2016
Print Email
Tasha is getting a mixed welcome from Ted, Lucky, and Holly. As Ted comes up to see her he makes friendly sounds. He probably would like to get to know her and play with Big Harry
Big Harry
her like he did with Lucky back in 2007 when Lucky was a cub. It took Lucky 2-3 months to accept and trust Ted. Then they were inseparable until Lucky matured and viewed Ted as a rival. If Ted and Tasha became buddies, there wouldn?t be any rivalry, just fun, we believe.

Victor
Victor
Lucky didn?t know what to make of Tasha at first and terrified her with a swat to the ground, but he is mellowing. Not so with Holly. With Honey gone, 3-year-old Holly seems to consider the enclosure her territory. It is the females that hold territories in the wild. She is not that friendly to Tasha, and Tasha knows that, as a Lily Fan captured in this five and a half minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keqgpD5hCjE.

RC and cub
RC and cub
That makes us hesitant to let Tasha out with Holly who is twice Tasha?s size. Tasha could climb a tree, but so could Holly. We?d like to move Tasha into the pen next to Ted so they could get to know each other through the fence. But moving Tasha isn?t easy. She wouldn?t likely follow staff to the pen. To do that, we?ll try to lure Tasha into the carrier cage that she arrived in and carry the cage into the new pen. That pen has many trees for her to climb if Holly comes close. However, that pen has no chain link roof. We?d have to count on the strand of electric wire to deter her from getting out of it. She probably rather climb the trees. When she learns to follow Sharon for food, we can begin letting her out to explore the large enclosure when we have Lucky and Holly in a pen. Deer in sunset

We believe Lucky and Holly would be okay together after some initial stress, so we could try penning up Holly and letting Tasha out with Lucky once Tasha knows the pen and some favorite climbing trees. Holly and Tasha could take turns being out with Lucky or Ted?especially after Ted and Tasha get to know each other through the fence. Friendships could unfold. Meanwhile, Tasha will be beefing up on good food to better hold her own against challenges by Holly?or Tasha and Holly can get to know each other through the fence and hopefully calm down.

During one of the many rain storms today, a large dead aspen snapped and fell in the enclosure. At the time, Lucky and Holly were up in their white pine and Ted and Tasha were in their dens.

In the wild, excitement grows. The neighborhood is talking about the beautiful cubs that RC showed up with these last three days. I?m told one has a white chest blaze perfectly shaped like a heart. Another has a blaze the shape of Ohio. The other has a smaller blaze. I haven?t seen them well yet. The best look I got was the quick picture of RC with one of the cubs descending from a tree just before they disappeared into the woods. Victor is back with his scarred-up face, and Big Harry is looking as great as always. I?ll be anxious to see Lily?s cubs in the spring to see if she combined her light nose genes with his similar genes. I would think they would have hooked up considering the location of her territory. The males are drifting in now with the waning of the mating season, although 3 days ago a female here mated with two different males and a possible third she was friendly with.

Sophie is doing well with her two cubs that haven?t posed for pictures yet.

Over the next couple weeks, we?ll likely learn the sexes of RC?s and Sophie?s cubs and begin thinking about names.

I had to snap the deer looking so red in the setting sun. And the painted turtle laying eggs told a story. Back on September 7, 2001, a bear dug up a chipmunk nest full of bear food it had stored. I remember the date because author Mark Elbroch was here as part of writing his masterful book (2003) ?Mammal Tracks and Sign: A Guide to North American Species,? and we took a picture of the bear sign for possible use in the book. The dirt has remained in place these 15 years until a couple days ago when this painted turtle selected it as the place to dig her nest.

Thank you for all you do.

Big Harry.

Had that sign-in trouble that perplexed us all a while back.  Overslept over an hour.  Strange pains in my legs.  A real bitchy day.   I think I will go  back to bed and try to start all over but at least I managed a morning greeting for all my Jewelie friends.  I wish you all a fine start to  the month of July.

We're going to our farmer's market this afternoon.  Anyone can set up there, but usually it's the Amish.  I love their pie crust on their pies.  I'll have to show you a picture of one of my sister's friends tomatoes!!  I realize things held toward a camera can look bigger, but it sure fills up her hands!

Got a good walk in, it's beautiful out.  It's going on 1 PM and we hit 67.  Couldn't be better and it's breezy.

Aww the cub with RC.  I just love bear cubs.

Cal you FINALLY ate the orange!!  :D  Wow I wish I could have gotten propane for that price back when I was in MN.  That year or so before I moved down here to Iowa it was really getting high.  That was when gasoline really started going up more too.  It was great when a person had enough money to prebuy on some of their deals.  That's what locked our price in.  We actually had to pay for it ahead though, no monthly payments.

I really want to know where D24 goes too, but if it doesn't go well we'll probably find out.  Hopefully he'll do great like D1 has.

I hope you feel better on round #2 JP!!  Hugs.
