Hi Jewelies!  Still hot here and no rain.  Supposed to get that storm the other night, and it never came.  Maybe rain this weekend.  We're in a moderate drought in this area now.

cal... Are you ready for your party?  Is it still supposed to rain?  It's always good to have company once in awhile... that's how your house gets a really, really good cleaning!  lol  What color is Jim's new truck?  I bet it's a big one!  I cried like a baby when they showed all those pics of Honey in the update yesterday.  Still do, when I think about it...

JP... I would request a song from you, but I have so many favorites... I don't know where to start!   ;)  I think my all time favorite is At Last, by Etta James, but I have it by Celine Dion and I really like that one, too.

rues...  I'm not sure if I'll still clean the lady's house now or not.  It's a big house on the lake and she cleans most of it anyway!  lol  I don't do the bathrooms, don't clean the glass tables, don't do the mantle, don't vacuum the living room rugs or the kitchen, haven't cleaned the husband's room in a long time.  I would think it's too much house for her, and she needs to move closer to her kids.  One is in Indiana and one is in Florida.  We'll have to see.  Another lady told me Tuesday that she and her husband are moving to Roanoke for a year.  They have already rented an apartment there.  Their only child, a daughter, moved up there and is going to have her second baby, so they want to be near them!  I asked why not just move in with them?  lol  Anyway, the husband will be coming home here fairly often, and she will come some weekends.  I told her no problem... I can come whenever.  I can't go when they're not home, they turn the water off.  Good thing I'm heading toward retirement and it doesn't matter!  lol   Did you watch Blacklist yet?  I cried at Liz's funeral... seems like I've cried too much in the last couple of days!  lol

I hope everyone is doing good and don't get those awful storms!  Hi to all!

Cal, your posts make me laugh! I cackled reading how you were speeding and passing pokey Jim! :D Does Jim's new truck have every new gadget in it!  Happy to hear that Soda's eye is improving! Hope the rain holds off until after your cook out tomorrow! Bet you guys will have lots of fun. Wish I could come! The game you and Polly play sounds like fun!

Ra, we were below normal rainfall until this past week. Now we are all soggy and have too much rain! Supposed to rain all weekend! Ugh. No rain today so we mowed. What a mess with the wet grass. But we had to mow since the rain is coming. Everything is growing like crazy. Southern part of the state is in a moderate drought. Liz's funeral was so sad. Wonder why she never knew her grandpa? Was that to keep her safe? There were a lot of places in that house that you didn't get to clean! What did she let you clean? Lol! Do you watch "Call the Midwife" Sundays on PBS?  I cry at every episode of that show!

Jp, I love Imagine by John Lennon. You got that one?

Hi Neva and Blschue!

Well Rues today was 41, the weekend should be 50 and 57, middle to upper 60's all week, and 73 a week from tomorrow.  I'll be the sole mower this summer too unless the guy up the street swings in with his rider like he did sometimes last year.  Will Molly take pills in peanut butter?

I'm glad Soda's eye is looking better Cal.  It seems like Jim just got a new truck, maybe it's been longer than I thought.  I've heard that radar detectors aren't always 100%?  I don't know, never had one.

That gull at the bear center is sure pretty.  So Eli is off the hook until further proof  :D  Hope your cake came out good.

RA, if I was those people going to Roanoke for a year and could afford it I'd get a place too, then everyone has their own space.  I should think it would be much easier for the couple to settle in with the new baby without mom/dad there 24/7.  I don't mean that badly.  I really loved my parents, but I couldn't have done that for a whole year, maybe a couple weeks.

I see there are storms again in TX and I assume moving east or NE, haven't had a chance to really check.

Joe's follow up with his surgeon was today and his stitches are now out, he doesn't have to have dressings anymore, and he has the sling for another three weeks.  Then he sees Dr. R. again and the sling will most likely get to stay off and he'll get to really get down to business with therapy.  I'm SO glad it's the time of year I can get outside for long walks or outside projects  :D  He gave us a set of the pictures taken when he went in with the scope to keep.  No wonder Joe was hurting when he showed us those and explained them!

Ahhh...  Thanks, JP!

Me, too, willi!

Nora...Thanks for the update on Joe!  I'm watching Dateline and the case they're showing was moved out of the family's hometown to Decorah!!  Do you remember it?  Her family owned a famous Iowa supermarket.  It's pretty recent...

While Dateline's people were filming in Decorah, they learned about the famous eagles.   :D  This link was posted on DNN forum page...  Pretty cool!

Shannon

I don''t know what is wrong this morning.  I gt up all dizzy and finally that settled down but I am in need of an energy boost.

cal,  The Marlins, who got off to a terrible start, have won their last 6 games (on the road) but just lost their all-star 2nd base player for 80 days for failing a drug test.  He led the league in batting averages last Year andin stolen bases, so his loss will be rough for the team.

Happy Saturday to all.

Daily Updates
Honey - UPDATE April 29, 2016
29 April 2016
Print Email
So many good memories of our beautiful girl Honey. So many tributes in your words.  Lily Fans captured some of the Honey as a cub
Honey as a cub
memories in these two musical slide show tributes to her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccbiDBUuyPc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VtL1TLp6EY

Her grave is in front of the North American Bear Center. We will have a professional marker made that has her name and her years of birth and death. To see it a person would turn south into the Bear Center driveway and then go right (west) to the northwest corner of the parking area. The grave is in the nice flat grassy area between the parking lot and the highway and is near flowers and one of the bear statues.

What killed her? Honey was 10 feet from her pen when she took her last step. She sat down and was unable to walk. The staff immediately recognized that she had something seriously wrong and called our veterinarian. To learn all we could, the staff consulted with over a dozen veterinarians, including one in England who had seen the same condition in over a dozen bears. She was very familiar with what Honey was facing. She and others said that old bears can get arthritis that leads to a pinched nerve, resulting in a hind leg that becomes numb and useless and loss of kidney function. Honey was not urinating. The veterinarian from England said that bears that didn?t recover in a couple days of treatment did not recover at all. Veterinarians we talked with agreed with the medicines Honey was getting. Honey did not improve with a week of treatment. On the last day, she was obviously sick and deteriorating, probably from urine build-up. When our veterinarian, Honey?s owner, and the staff saw that, they all concurred that the most humane course was euthanasia.

Honey tribute

Little is known about natural causes of death in old bears in the wild. From the conversation with the veterinarian in England, it seems likely that a common cause of death is what Honey had. It makes a person wince to think of a wild bear facing that without help. Honey?s leg had no feeling. According to our veterinarian, urea build-up in the blood was likely what caused her rapid deterioration the last night and morning. Before she deteriorated, we had planned to x-ray her, but that proved to be impossible. No hospital would admit her, and we learned that portable x-ray machines are only good for small bones in the feet and lower legs?not for the spine. By then, she was deteriorating so fast that we didn?t want to put her through any more. Sad.

A Lily Fan initiated a spontaneous fundraiser for a memorial, donating a dollar for each Lily Fan who put up a picture of Honey on Facebook. 98 Lily Fans participated. Another Lily Fan matched the money, raising almost enough for Honey?s marker. Thank you all.

Other Lily Fans have asked if there will be a memento they could keep. I?m not sure what to do on that. A Lily Fan created this beautiful picture of Honey that might be useful on something along with Honey?s name and dates of birth and death. Not sure how to use it. Thoughts?

I was happy to see that the months of January, May, and September in the 2016 calendar are Honey?s months with May starting in a couple days.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning jewelies! it is 53 here and raining still. Very sad about honey but she is not suffering anymore. Dr Rogers saw to that. Good place to bury her and happy he is getting a headstone. i talked to dr. rogers the other day and offered to pay for that headstone but happy to see lily fans all want to help with that cost. He wanted to know about tuco's headstone. wish he would of put her picture on it i told him i have tuco's on hers. that one in the update today would of been a good one.

Hi JP! Good pic of shannon! Hope you get your energy level up and your marlins doing good and on the road. i saw on the sport channel your player getting out for the 80 days over drugs. That is a big loss i agree. hoping they came overcome that. royals lost again 0-1. saw it when i woke up around 1 am. shoot need to get back home i guess. on the news the other day talking about some thief stole this royal player off a hyvee bill board down in the city. said it weighed 150 lbs. i swear.

Hi Ra! i know i said that jim well at least the house is extra clean. dogs will take care of that soon. but throwing away empty boxes and moving stuff really helped my library. it looks good again not all junked up. jim really cleaned his room and bathroom it looks way better!!  he even bought  a new comforter for his bed. augie will love that. it is suppose to rain till around eleven i think. warm up to 65 we will be cold and muddy riding. be putting on my winter stuff for sure. jim's truck is white. in the garage my white escape and his white truck. i felt bad when we left the dealer and saw his gray one sitting there. told it goodbye.  he had 88,000 miles on it. he got the extended warranty on this one too and all that insurance stuff. if he dies paid off he gets sick makes his truck payment for him.. but i almost died payment over 600 a month!! more than our house payment at the old house and almost what it is here!! take it out of his check. he needs a good truck in the winter and to get back and forth to work. good thing we paid off my escape so he could do this.

Hi Rues! We can still do the cook out if it keeps on raining. grill is on the front porch and it has roof over it. can't put it on the boys deck in the back! boo boo and houla knocking that over with the ruff playing and my little ham and cheese would pee on it.  our game is alot of fun. i look forward to playing it a little on wed and sometimes thursday too. not always get to play both days but at least one of them. jim truck has everything on it yes. when he stopped at a light we were looking for a sonic while they were changing my oil it died but suppose to save gas. when he hit the gas pedal started up again. i don't like that he said all cars and truck will be having that. happy i got mine before that.

Hi Nora! mosby that is a town my radar detector does not work there. but that is on the way to the city so hardly go thru there. i did not speed till on the two lanes highway close to home. have highway patrol and my radar pickes them up. i was speeding up there straight stretch can see deer and stuff from along ways off too. scootie needed his medicine and girls needed to go up. otherwise not driving that fast unless it says i can. in the city on 35 it was 70 so went 70 maybe 75. ca has a valentine radar detector big bucks picks up everything. but i did not have the cash for one of those. but they will update his for free forever. so good deal really. cops changed up their stuff. not around here lucky to pay them.

Hi Blschue! sorry you missed that birthday and time from mr. bill. i am looking forward to jim going to florida for a week in two weeks. me and sister eating out at the mexican place. you wanted a sunny day got on and slept thru it. hope your mouth is better. wow you got a big music collection too! you and jp together lots of songs. no frank zappa but lots of songs.

Hi Neva and Maddie rose!
