Cal, thanks for checking in with us right away this morning, I'll feel better when I hear from Dlong & Nora. Wow, ra, I had forgotten what an egg slicer was--been years & years since I heard of one. I really like boiled eggs and ones fried hard but can't stand eggs over easy nor poached eggs. When I go out to breakfast Thurs. I usually get 2 eggs, really crisp bacon and a pancake. How's that for pigging out. We're thinking of signing up for Costco this time, because a friend got hearing aids there for $2,000 cheaper than locally. My daughters would be thrilled if I got some, and I'd be equally thrilled if they talked louder & slower!  Rues, you should have gotten some pretty good weather I sent you.

Hi Jewelies!  Getting hot down here almost every day now... Doesn't feel much like spring anymore!  This week is cheerleading tryouts for the oldest grand, plus she's been in training at her new job.  They're not paying her during training.  I told her that's not the normal in life, I was always paid as soon as I started somewhere... training or not.  She's ok with it, so I guess I should be, too.  lol

cal... I'm so glad your storm wasn't any worse than it was!  4 inches of rain is a log!!   Thankfully, Polly got there before it hit!  We're supposed to get the tail end of your storm tomorrow.  We could use some of that rain, but not all of it though...  Poor Honey... How can a bear have an owner? Lucky Cindy!   I wish Dr. Rogers had included a pic of Eli... maybe tomorrow.  What kind of bird is Einstein?  Where did he come from?  Did he fall out of his nest?

JP... Firefall sounds a lot like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.  What year did this song come out?  No problem on duplicate pics of the bears... we love seeing all the pics, anytime!

Nora... That egg slicer is the same concept as the one I got, but mine has a plastic top that looks like the plastic bottom part in your pic, with hinges, too.  The wires are pretty much hidden.  I'm surprised my mom didn't ever have one... she would have liked it!   :)  Thanks for bringing a pic here of yours!  Love the idea of using a paper plate for a cat collar!  lol

obsver... If you call 2 eggs, bacon and ONE pancake pigging out... You would think I was a giant HOG when I go out for breakfast!  lol  I see a lot of different fridges, a lot of them are the kind with the freezer on the bottom.  I think that's what I'll get next time I need one.  I have a Maytag fridge, have had it since 1999 and only had to fix it once.  Are you looking for stainless?  That's all they have on HGTV!  lol  I wouldn't have one if you gave it to me!  lol  GE seems to be real popular around here.  I think I'd go American, if I were you...  Costco has hearing aids??

dlong... Good to see you here!  Glad you were feeling well enough to post.  Thanks for the pics, as usual!   ;)  Your little garden is very nice... you have a good neighbor!  Want to trade?  lol  Hope you made it through the storm in good shape, your new flowers, too!  That was quite a Morel!!  We used to go out in the woods in MI and find them when I was little.  Don't think they are around here... seems like someone would mention them...

blschue... No sun up there?

rues... Have you got your pool ready yet?  How did you like Blindspot this week?  I can't believe it will be time for Blacklist again tomorrow already.  Maybe Liz had her baby and is taking some time off...  Sure hope she comes back from the dead!

Hope everyone has a good evening!  Hi to all!

ra, The album came out in 1976.  Several  congs from that album charted.  Cinderella charted in 1977.  Firefall was originated in 1974 in Boulder, CO.  There is some Steven Stills connection, He wrote some of their songs,  There was a lot of cross connections with people from Buffalo Springfield and other groups.  Richie Furay is a prime example of working with many bands.

JP... Aha!  THAT'S why it sounded familiar.  A lot of familiar names.  I don't think I've heard of Firefall before though.  Thanks for the info!  I was a big fan of Crosby, Stills, and Nash when I was young.

Cal, tell Polly that EVERYONE is happy when she arrives there safely and then back home again! Ra, many years ago, every year, my in-laws used to go somewhere up into Michigan to hunt mushroom and come back with several coolers full. Darn! Now I'm hungry for mushrooms, crispy, fried in butter. During the spring and summer, we meet Mr. O's sister and her husband for breakfast at the Ponderosa buffet every other Sun., and I do truly pig out then! Jp, keep feeling good!!!!

Lily the Black Bear
4 hrs ?
A very sad post to share from Dr. Rogers
It is with heavy hearts we are writing to say we made the difficult decision to euthanize Honey today. After extensive consultation and seeing how she worsened overnight, we all agreed that sooner rather than later was the best for Honey. Many tears on this sad day for this beloved bear. More in the update tonight.

A sad outcome for a much beloved bear. What a good home with loving people at the bear center.

I'm sad about Honey bear too, but am also grateful that she had the love and help that she needed when she needed it.  I hate to imagine what she would have gone through as a truly wild bear, out there on her own and going through this with no one to notice, and no care to be gotten from anywhere.

I don't remember ... how old was Honey?

We took Maddie to the Vet Clinic this morning for her yearly shots and exam ... plus the update of her rabies shot.  She is really over weight, ... my "little coffee table" dog.  The last exam she had lost weight, and this time, she had gained 6 lbs.  Too many treats for the five people who love her in this house.  So, the vet really gave me a talking to, and I came home and gave everyone here the same... She is back on the food that she should be on, and that'll be a priority.  She favors her right hind leg, and as the doctor pointed out, if she gains the weight, and goes down, we won't be able to pick her up or carry her, and may be left to the decision to put her down.  A shocking thought, and it ain't gonna happen.  As for treats ...Maddie will only get a piece or two of her food, now and again as her 'treat', over and about her three meals ... and as the doctor said, give her hugs and kisses there are no calories in that.

It is just Honey not being able to walk and it ending this way, has driven home the vet's words to me today.
As for her leg, we will be doing massage on it.

I wish someone could explain how Honey has an owner ...??

A tree full of little ones.  Donna's 2013 crowd, Little Bitsy,, Taffy, Timmie,  and Snickers.  What fun they must have had playing together.

So sad abut Honey.  Did they ever figure out what really happened?  It seemed to be so sudden.

I hope Thursday treats you allpleasantly.

Daily Updates
Sad Day For All - Honey 1996-2016 - UPDATE April 27, 2016
27 April 2016
Print Email
It was a day of tears and a hard decision that everyone involved could see had to be done for Honey. Yesterday she was bright and normal except for not being Honey Bearable to rise up and walk. Today she mostly wanted to put her head down with her eyes closed or half open. She was deteriorating fast. When we got her tranquilized, I sniffed where she was lying. No smell of urine. When urination stops, life stops within a few days.

When I heard the decision from the people there with her this morning, I made one last call to a veterinarian with major experience with bears. He confirmed that we had no choice if we wanted to be humane to Honey. HoneyIn the end, it wasn?t a decision, it was a need. But that didn?t erase the sorrow?especially for those who had raised her or cared for her for years. The feelings involved in that care, memories of special moments, seeing things that Lily Fans have also seen, all build a tie that is painful to end. They knew what had to be done and were the first to say it, but their tears showed their sense of loss. I know there are also a lot of tears among Lily Fans and Pond-Chatters who have watched her, know her, and love her.

Honey against treeHoney was an important member of the Ambassador Bear team. Her personality and brown coat made her unique. Ted, Lucky, and Holly all have their distinct roles in the social dynamics at the Bear Center, and so did Honey. She had a good life. She helped educate about bears. She is loved by many and will not be forgotten.

Looking at her this morning, she never looked more beautiful in her smooth rich dark brown coat like you saw in one of the pictures yesterday. Her muzzle and eyebrow patches are rich golden brown. In sunlight her rich colors come out. When a cloud passes, her look changes, and the white hairs on her forehead become obvious. Inside her body, her age (20) caught up to her.

The staff is making preparations for her burial on the property.

Here are some photos that capture her beautiful spirit.

Honey   Honey   Honey
Honey   Honey   Honey
Honey   Honey   Honey
Honey   Honey   Honey
Honey   Honey   Honey
Honey   Honey   Honey
Thank you for all you do.
