I tripped over one of those branches near the ground and did not get my clock stopped so it took me 10:40.

Oops!  Tuesday.  I guess I am resisting aging so I will go ahead and enjoy Monday and let Tuesday come later.

Henry's breathing tube was just for the surgery. All he has now is inflatable tube collar so he cannot lick his wounds. Better than those old lampshade cone things.

Willi, those lampshades are the worst. I'd panic, too, if one were put on me!!! Is Henry tolerating the inflatable one a lot better? You've probably flashed back to that scary attack a million time the past few days. Cal, you absolutely were NOT supposed to get knocked down by any of your critters ANYMORE!!!!! Gee whiz, girl!

It's hard to believe but this is our little Einstein! We are so proud of the work Erica has put in to get him to this point! She reports he is even starting to fly some! Great job Erica!

I've never seen the "boulevard" real wide either in smaller towns.  I don't like it because it puts the sidewalk to close to the house.  Oh well, can't do anything about it.

I'm glad Henry is doing ok even if he might not be able to bark, at least he's coming along!!

Joe goes Friday for a follow up and we'll see how long the sling has to be on.  The way things feel when we have to take it on or off it may be a while yet, sigh.  As to the pendulums, he prefers doing them in the shower with the warm water on it.  You know he was a much easier patient after the bypass surgery and definitely complained less.  ;)  Good thing my walks with Chester can be longer with the warmer temps and I'll have to do all the mowing.   :D

That's neat about your grand wanting to be an orthodontist RA.  Time will tell  :)  And egg slicer like one of those hinged ones with the wires?  I love mine.  Nice for slicing or if I'm making egg salad I slice through and turn the egg 90 degrees and slice again.  :D  (Sorry this picture wasn't smaller)

Yes Chester is MUCH easier than Sparky EVER was, but sure do miss that critter.  We don't know Chester's age, but it's probably at least four years.  Sparky was 10 months and all his Australian Cattle Dog was starting to come out in him.  That first year or so was rough to put it mildly.  It's doing to be fun to keep Chester's hair detangled, but been there before, reminds me of doing the Old English Sheepdog I had a long time ago, only shorter hair than that one and not as thick an undercoat.  The OES was like a poodle when clipped in the summer, short and curly.  Chester's can still mat going up the backs of his legs, behind his ears, those kind of places, but he's SO soft and nice to hug (doesn't pull away).  Yep I'm hooked  :D

I should do our frig again AND pull it out and vacuum by the coils and do the floor under it.

Aww that's too bad about that lady's husband, but it sounds like it must have been time for him.   :(

That sounds like a nice Sunday JP, bet you enjoy doing it and also listening to them.  Juliet looks like such a nice bear.

Poor Honey.  Do they know she HAS Lyme disease?  I've heard that's rough and also doing other treatments not knowing for sure?  That's can't be that good for her either.  Guess I'll have to go back and do some checking, what's up with the bald eagle??  Is it hurt?  Oh good, Eli is there.

Not like yesterday, we're at 48 and headed for 59.  We were in the 70's yesterday.  Please watch your weather if you're central and east.  There is a nasty storm going across and the weather chasers are predicted more heavy stuff later today.  So far no tornadoes, but could be hail.  Since watching those guys they've been pretty accurate a lot of the time.  Take care!  So far Oklahoma and Kansas for the most part today and central Missouri, but it's early yet.  There are 25 of them out and about.   (If you click on a red dot you can watch their cam and to the right of the number of viewers is a bubble that takes you to chat)  https://tvnweather.com/live  Cal it looks like you might have had a storm this morning?

That inflatable collar must beat the darn plastic cones!  One of my cats one time had one out of a soft vinyl or something and you tied it like putting a bib on a baby, but went all the way around.  He was much happier than when he had a hard cone and still couldn't get at stuff.

I thought in a pinch this was an idea...

Cal was little Einstein brought by someone to the vet clinic after being found?  He's so little!

Hi Jewelies!  :)

I'm tired; the storms started early this morning and went on for quite awhile. I heard on the Weather Channel that 92 Highway was closed in some areas because of high water this morning. There are a number of areas northeast of me and around Cal that flood often. My power just flickered. Not enough to kick my computer offline but my cable went out and had to reboot itself.

One of my weather apps on my phone gave me a warning about a "tornadic signature" that was very close to me earlier today. Of course it was already past me when I saw it so if it had dropped a tornado it would have been too late for me! Here it is:

My next door neighbor made me a little garden out front. Isn't that nice? She even planted a rose bush! I hope that works out because all I have to do to kill a rose bush is to look at it! Black thumb for me. She told me not to water anything or touch anything; she will take care of it so I won't kill everything. She planted some iris (love those) and some lilies. And she put in a little garden sculpture too. Here it is:

I'm really worried about poor Honey. I sure hope she gets to feeling better soon.

I love morel mushrooms and used to go hunting them when I was younger and more able to get around. There is a page on Facebook for Missouri morel hunters and this was posted the other day. Not sure if this one would still taste OK, because if it's that big, it's old. I thought it was pretty amazing though!

Look what it's doing up in Maine not far from Deb at Steve and Rachel's nest!

Bei Bei and his mom were having a wrestling match earlier today. They are so funny to watch!

Here are the Atlanta Zoo twins. They are still pretty darn cute. They don't show up much on their cam anymore.

I've been working on my rescue interviews today and it's about time to get out of this chair. I'm feeling better yesterday and today. I need to get to the kitchen and see if I can find something good to eat.

Hi to Cal, JP, Rues, Ra, Obsver, Willi, Nora, Deb, Eaglette, Pat, Blschue, Chippy, Neva and all who visit here. Have a good day and watch out for storms (well, Deb, you can watch out for snow)! ;D

Lily.  I wonder why her ears are perked up.

Please forgive any noted duplication of bear pictures. I try to spread them out but in a 365 day year some close together posting may occur.

I had a peaceful day yesterday, one of those where there was nothing to complain about although nothing too spectacular happened.

I went to the shopping center and notice a lone turkey vulture circulating in the sky above.  He/she must have decided to linger a little longer in this area.

I finally got out of Monday and so, I hope you all enjoy Wednesday.  When it is over we will be on the downside of the weekly hump.

Daily Updates
Honey, Birds - UPDATE April 26, 2016
26 April 2016
Print Email
This morning, I visited Honey with Bear Curator Sharon Herrell, Senior Director Scott Edgett, Office Manager Heidi Schiltz, and bear owner Cindy. Honey yawning
Honey yawning
The staff and Cindy have spent a lot of time with Honey, doing everything possible to make her comfortable?food, water, straw, and a big tarp for shade and to keep the rain off her. The location is where Honey stopped walking just outside her pen a week ago.

Honey was in good spirits. Everyone fed her. Some stroked her. She looked almost blissful. She obviously enjoyed the company. She struggled up to a sitting position to better receive the attention. She never winced or showed any indication of pain in getting into the sitting position. She responded to everyone nicely?nothing like Honey with tarp overhead

I?ve seen with wounded wild bears that obviously were in pain and trying to move away as if they felt vulnerable and didn?t want any company in the woods. I brought them food and water and left so as not to bother them. But good Honey looked from person to person in an accepting way, enjoying the treats being offered. She acted like she had just awakened and even yawned a few times.

Her only problem is that her left rear leg is numb and doesn?t work.

To gather opinions, the staff has sought advice from about a dozen vets. A zoo veterinarian in the UK was immediately familiar with the problem. She had seen it many times, unfortunately never with a good outcome. She said old bears get arthritis that eventually affects a nerve, and there is no way they can recover. Honey has long walked carefully, as I?m sure Lily Fans have noticed. Suddenly, a week ago, she couldn?t walk anymore and sat down where she is today. The veterinarian said if there is no recovery in the first couple days, it?s a permanent condition in her experience.

We?re at a loss as to how to help Honey. We wish we had more answers, but a number of the veterinarians said there is no good reason to put Honey through being tranquilized for blood work or x-rays. They said the tranquilizer itself could kill her, and the blood work and x-rays would not likely reveal anything that would be treatable. With Honey acting her usual self and enjoying human company and treats, it is understandable that we all want to do everything possible for her, no matter how slim the chances are that it will do any good.  It is also important to us to do everything possible for this beloved bear. Tomorrow, our vet is coming to tranquilize Honey, take blood samples, and possibly bring a portable x-ray machine. The vet will then send the blood samples off for analysis.

Meanwhile we?ll keep you apprised of her condition.

On a happier note, it was a beautiful day, so I took the camera when I put food out for the birds and squirrels. A chickadee looked expectantly at me from overhead. A female purple finch gave me a nice look as she ate the seeds. The non-tame gull flew in for some bologna and hot dogs and doesn?t fly away when I open the door now. And to top it off, as I was writing that, Eli showed up.

I was glad to see Honey being comfortable and happy today. I just wish she could walk.

Thank you for all the suggestions you have made. Honey is part of all of our lives. It is hard to let her go. Maybe the veterinarians will learn something unexpected.

Thank you for all you do. I?m going out to say hi to Eli now.

Glad you're starting to feel better Dee.  What a cute little garden your neighbor made you!

Hopefully all are doing ok storm-wise yesterday/today.

Cool JP, neat song.

Poor Honey.

Cal said "Hi Blschue!Stop by my walmart on your back to AZ and get me!!"  Could you swing by NE Iowa and drop me in New Mexico?

My eastern daughter was in Kansas City all last week and flew home Mon. I'm thankful she flew out ahead of all the storms, tornadoes, etc. !!!!  We've had no rain, but the wind is pretty strong, and sweatshirt & turtleneck weather is back.  A couple of weeks ago, I got a new Frigidaire refrigerator, and it's not keeping the food quite cold enough. We bought two frig. thermometers and put one on the top shelf and the other on the bottom My old one was bought in '93, and I wish I'd kept it. I don't know whether to ask for a refund, exchange it for another or get something entirely different. I read that GE is made in the US--Frigidaire in Mexico. Anyone had any experiences, good or bad? It's a freezer at the top and no ice maker.  I hope everything is ok with all who are affected by those storms!!!
