Cal, you are one lucky gal to have your own ac/heating guy! I have a retired plant mechanic that only knows how to repair factory equipment! Lol! Glad that Corey dog is ok! Maybe he had an upset stomach. We have our little grand kitties visiting this weekend. Their mom went to Savannah, Georgia, with some friends for a long weekend. I thought it was an awful long drive (9 hours each way) to only be there for a few days. Ahh, to be young and free! Going to have to go to my iPad to watch Janice's video because my laptop won't let me view it!!

Jp, gosh, you did oversleep! Wish I could oversleep but Boober wakes me up every morning. Cutest pic of the bear and the squirrel!

Ra, I didn't watch Blacklist! I think I'd better watch it later this evening! I still haven't gotten any mulch. We've been so busy working on the fence. The new fence is about an inch off the ground. I can't have it that way because little bunny rabbits can get under it. Besides them eating my plants, I know Boober would get one and accidently hurt or kill it. So we got treated 2x4's and are putting them against each section of fencing. Looks ok and I think it will do the trick. Good for your daughter for attempting to run! I am amazed at anyone that can run any distance! I cannot make myself keep going! Lol! I'm just not motivated. Sorry her allergies caused her to stop.

Nora, sorry Joe was in such pain. Hope he feels better now. Except for having a baby, I've never really been in such horrible pain. Crow has had so many surgeries and been in excruciating pain. He always tries not to take the pain meds but sometimes he has to.  Like Ra and Cal said...Chester has found his home! :)

Blschue, you might be close to Cal! Wouldn't that be cool!

Donna.

This is a plus day.  I did not oversleep.

Nora, My sympathies go out to Joe.  Pain can really put you down.  I can tolerate pain fairly well but many years ago, when my back first went out, I passed out from the pain, in the Navy medical clinic.

I am disappointed in the Marlins.  They just are not hitting when they get men in scoring position.

Happy weekend to all.

Daily Updates
Lucky?s Big Day, Holly?s Big Loss - UPDATE April 15, 2016
15 April 2016
We?ve been wanting to learn how much Holly lost over-winter with all her activity?70 pounds, Bear in front of NABC
Bear in front of NABC
28.4%. She went from 247 on October 27, 2015 to 177 pounds today (April 15, 2016). I can?t think of a higher percentage weight loss over a similar period?not even by lactating mothers.

Honey?s more sedentary lifestyle resulted in a loss of only 20.5%--105.5 pounds from November 3, 2015 (515 pounds) to April 14, 2016 (409.5 pounds). Sharon was able to weigh Honey midday yesterday as a Lily Fan captured at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_v7xsmTd98. Honey then went to the window den and stayed there.

While the cat?s away, the mice will play?even bears. Honey?s open pen beckoned Lucky and Holly who took full advantage of it yesterday afternoon. Lucky stood amazingly tall at the entrance to Honey?s chalet. He climbed her tree and cooled his feet in her water bowl. He was beautiful in his thick, smooth, prime coat passing by the camera at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-rbK1djx9M. If Honey stays in the window den now, she might never know that Lucky and Holly checked out her pen.

With the temperature in the 60?s and Lucky in his thick coat and being active, the water in Honey?s bowl must have felt good. Did that make him think of the pond? He next took a swim in it even though it was half ice-covered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoacRDGssyY.

A nice picture of the Bear Center in the Ely Echo is at http://www.elyecho.com/articles/2016/04/15/new-15-million-ecology-hall-now-open-north-american-bear-center.

On the down side, we got word that Else Poulsen (Smiling Bears) died of cancer. We had a wonderful talk for several hours a couple years ago.

I forgot the picture last night of the bear statue a volunteer painted yesterday to help us get ready for the today's opening.

Thank you volunteers, and thank you all for all you do.

Blschue - that's so neat you and Cal can meet!!!  It's always fun to meet someone from the RRP board, it's just like you've always known them.  Dee going too  ???

Hey JP you could go by our time here, that would have made it 6:00 instead of 7  ;)

Got Chester out for a really good walk this morning.  I got over on another street and a little girl was sort of putzing and looking like she was waiting for us.  We got up closer and she said "what happened to Sparky?"  She must have been part of his "fan club" that always yelled "hi Sparky" and came to pet him, she looked familiar.  :-\

Thanks for the picture Cal & blschue!!

Noon and it's 72 and saying it could get up to 78.  I prefer 72.

Hi Jewelies!  Got a lot done today.  Back porch is painted and mulch is down in the back.  Just kinda sprinkled it around all the plants...  My daughter and the girls stopped by this afternoon... she found her Honda pilot!  She had to go back to Atlanta to get it, but she loves it.  It's a 2010 and  it's dark blue.  I know she's glad she found it.

cal and blschue!  So cool you guys got to meet today!  I'm so jealous!  I wish we all could meet like that!  Love the pic!

Nora... How's Joe today?  Is he doing better?

Been watching Decorah North Nest today... won't be long and the first eaglet will hatch.  I read that the Fort St. Vrain nest got hit by a storm and they lost all 3 eaglets.  That's exactly why I don't watch many nests anymore.  Sad now.

rues... Did you watch the Blacklist YET??

Hi to everyone!

Hi cal!  When I went to Decorah in 2012, I was lucky and got to meet Nora and Joe.  I'm so glad I got to meet at least one of us Jewelies in person.  It's very neat.  Your flowers will be fine until tomorrow, just remember to water them a little.  Did you uncover your trees yet?  How do they look?  Oh, man... I really, really am anxious to talk about the Blacklist!!   Eat your orange!  Bet it's a good one!

blschue... Have a safe trip home!

This is Kurtis (foreground) who was a motherless cub and helped to survive by the Ely community.  He has made friends with the male (who is unidentified) in the background.

I was really a GOM when I  go t up this morning and found that my mouse did not work.  I tried everything even restarted the computer and no luck.  Boy, was I upset.  Finally it dawned on me that the batteries might be dead so I changed them and it works fine.  The mouse is 6 months old and the instructions say that the batteries should last 3 years.  Ha!

So good that bischue successfully navigated to the designated rendezvous to meet with cal.  Nice pucture.  I always like to look at pictures of young ladies.

Daily Updates
76?F and Action - UPDATE April 16, 2016
16 April 2016
Print Email
Last evening, Holly was roaming the enclosure. Honey was resting in her window den. Honey Lucky
Lucky
was not accepting visitors as a Lily Fan captured at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb8d20VNi1w . Holly was about to cross the stream and go past Honey?s den. Honey wouldn't have it. She came partway out the entrance, blew, and slapped the ground. Holly fled but returned. Honey said something unfriendly that I can?t repeat. Holly fled but returned again. This time Honey came most of the way out and clacked her jaws, which is a sign of fear. We don?t know how Honey could be afraid of little Holly, but she was very defensive toward her. It?s all part of the different bear personalities.

Today, with the temperature reaching 76?F, Lucky went for another swim. This time the ice was all melted as is shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YEjyexkwv4&feature=youtu.be.

Eastern chipmunk
Eastern chipmunk
Inside the Bear Center, everything is spic and span and beautiful. The comments about it from visitors are terrific. Way to go staff and volunteers.

At the WRI, volunteers put a new tarp on the garage as a temporary roof. Thank you so much.

Out the window, grass is growing. Eight deer are eating it. Many new birds are back. Some are eating sunflower seed hearts scattered on the ground. Eastern chipmunks are taking their share, stuffing their cheeks and then their burrows.

Thank you for all you do
