Daily Updates
Holly and Lucky Having Fun, Field Courses - UPDATE April 10, 2016
10 April 2016

Holly and Lucky look like the contented couple. They love having fun with each other. It?s enough to just stay home Grizzly mom and cub touching noses
Grizzly mom and cub touch noses
and be together?no need to travel. Their pen is open. They could explore the big enclosure to stimulate their minds with new surroundings. If they are hungry, they could see if nature has provided any of the new foods that are available by mid-April in some years. Instead of getting out and working, they just stay home and play together as a Lily Fan captured for us in this 5-minute video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QWU_kLi0ww&feature=youtu.be&t=228.

Ted and Honey aren?t any better. When staff walked up and called to them as if it were feeding time. Neither of them bothered to get up and see what was afoot.

I?m looking forward to the last half of this week to see if their internal clocks or the warm weather that is coming will stir a desire to travel. In the wild, roaming for most bears begins with green-up in early May.

While they are still staying home in their small pens, I wish we could see what is happening in their dens?especially the interactions between Holly and Lucky. Holly has showed us the difficulties in keeping a Den Cam working around her. The staff is planning how to watch her next winter and not be thwarted by her curiosity about the camera.

I?d also like to add another bear to the mix within a year if we can find the right young bear?preferably a spring cub or a socialized yearling the staff can work with.

Today was a day of getting things together for the Bear Center opening. One thing was pictures for the upper walls of the Bear Center. One that I like is this picture of a mother grizzly and her cub.

Also looking forward to the Black Bear Field Courses that start July 17 and still have spaces open. The emphasis of these courses is learning directly from the bears. The focus is on participants having close-up experiences with bears to learn bear personalities and have experiences that give a greater depth of learning than is possible in any other way. Close-up experiences are what create a heart for bears. It?s why the main words we hear from past participants is that it was a ?Life-changing experience.? What got me thinking about this was a wonderful letter from a 2010 participant from England who is in International Relations. She said the bears demonstrate the fundamental truth which lies at the core of international relations: ?it isn?t about whether they like us or not, it?s about whether they?re happy with the deal.? She wrote, ?If only we were as rational as the bears, how much more peacefully our international conflicts could be managed!? She ended her letter with, ?Me, and the bears, and the wolves, and the woods, we were all happy with the deal.?

I?m looking forward to July.

Thank you for all you do.

Lily with Frannie, Frankie and Francis.

cal, the Royals are doing fine but the Marlins  are not .  Of course it is very early in the season but every game you lose is one you can't make up.  I see that you have posted the update and jigsaw puzzles.  How do you get JigZone to accept your pictures as puzzles?  I try and try and rarely have any luck getting one accepted.  Yes, the forum is still a problem.  Every other page shows me as a guest so when I go to a page I just automatically click on the thread name and then I am signed in.

I greet you all with a positive outlook that Spring will get here.  I think, like me, that it just overslept.

For everyone good thoughts.

Hi JP! i got to go to walmart but came to see you. love the lily and kids picture and those kids names! sorry your marlins lost.and to those mets. it is early in the season but i feel like you not a game that can be made up. The royals them guys just find a way to come back. you can tell they are all really good friends off the field too. real bond there. That jigzone is a pain. when teri cousin janice missy someone sends me something cool i save them. then when jigsaw finally lets me add a picture i go to that file my bear one and start adding. try to do it fast too cause sometimes while i am adding it will quit and i can't add anymore. i just check that jigzone here and there. takes awhile too.

It took me 6:46 to determine that I am not an average human.  I stopped drinking beer and I walk as little as possible.  But, back in the olden days, I out did the average human by a large margin.

Hi Jewelies! We were 30 degrees warmer today than we were yesterday! Awoke to snow covering everything yesterday. But it soon melted. Now we are heading to warmer weather this week! Can't come soon enough for me!

Cal, weird how in the last few days 2 people from my state have been discussed here on the forum! Jon Benet's mom, Patsy, was born here in Parkersburg. In fact my younger sis knew her in high school. Patsy was very popular in school and she was crowned Miss West Virginia in 1977. I never thought anyone in the family killed the child. I always thought it was an intruder. I think the police dept botched the investigation. Poor Patsy died from cancer. How sad.  Tried to post yesterday but I lost my post so I'll try to remember what I said! My Sat. Hyacinth episode was where Hya thought Richard needed to apply for an executive job with frozen food company called Frosticles! In the end Hyacinth was offered a job instead!  My sis and Sandy came over for a couple hours Sat evening. We had a nice visit. Laughed our butts off! No, I haven't been to her house, when she was home, since Christmas! But I have been to her house 2 times when she wasn't home, you know house and cat sitting when she goes out of town! Get to do that house and cat sitting thing next weekend when she goes to Indiana to a Crank In!

Jp,  do you watch golf? I don't because I find it boring but I did watch the end of the Masters yesterday with Crow. Crow was hoping that Speith guy would win. Oh, well, better luck next year.

Ra, sorry that the grand didn't win. At least she isn't a quitter! They say some of the state's apple and peach trees may have some damage but happy that the freeze wasn't worse! Did you watch Blacklist yet? Is your daughter looking at Honda SUV's? Robin traded in her Honda Civic when she got the Subaru. She liked the Honda but just needed something that went in snow better!

Obsver, we went to Sam's today! Getting our hair cut tomorrow and that means going to Bob Evans for breakfast! Send no more bad weather my way! I only want warmth and sunshine!

Nora, Jon Benet got her love of pageants from her mom! Robin started wearing make up when she was in kindergarten in dance class recitals! She loved getting all dolled up back then. Now she rarely wears any make up! Lol!

Hi Blschue, Willi, Eaglette and everyone! :)

Hi Jewelies!  Cloudy here today, but not too cool.  Rain is supposed to start any time now, but after tomorrow, it's supposed to be nice. I have to work tomorrow, then I'm done for the week.  Yay!

rues... My daughter is looking for a Honda Pilot, I think.  She didn't have any luck in Atlanta... ran into a couple of jerk salesmen though.  Really makes car shopping a chore when you run into people like that.  I told her to not get in a hurry, she'll find what she wants.   I actually with my grand WAS a quitter when it comes to pageants!  She knows how I feel, and doesn't say much.  Bob Evans sounds good!  Get me an omelette while you're there, ok?  Or, some strawberry pancakes.  And, sausage.  Or, bacon.  lol  Yes, I watched the Blacklist last night.  It was good!  Blindspot tonight!  Might have to record it though...

cal... How's your little chili dog?  Does he play with any of the other "kids"?  Glad you like your new gate opener!  I haven't had a beer since I was 24!!  lol   How did Missy's friend do at the game?  Have you heard yet?

JP... How's your back today?   Glad you get relief from the shots!

Hope everyone is doing good and has a good evening!  Hi to all!
