The wind was cold today, but otherwise not bad.

Yes Cal, Chester likes his walks and he's a joy to walk.  Today we saw our first cat and I held my breath.  His head came up and he took two steps that direction, but as soon as the leash tightened up between us at all he stopped and looked.  The weren't fast steps either, not like the "there's a cat!" and mad dash.

Boy RA, I'll keep my fingers crossed on your weather, some places seem to be getting it over and over this spring so far across Mississippi, Alabama, and that.

Hi JP!  Awww Ursula's girls........

This old fellow is Victor.

Well, I got through yesterday without being fooled.  I did not make a fool of myself.  I did not fool around.  I don't think I played the fool.  I did not do anything foolish.  Sounds like a dull day, doesn't it?

The bears should be getting out and about before long and we will hear of new cubs in the area.

I hope all of you had a good start to the month and that you have good fortune.

Upgrade, Siskins - UPDATE April 1, 2016

Pine Siskin coming in for a landing
Pine siskin coming in for a landing
The "Daily Updates Mailing List" module on our site has been failing intermittently which has caused many subscribers to miss getting the update in their email as of late. The software on Bearstudy.org requires an upgrade in order to fix the module. The webmaster will be working on this tomorrow and possibly into tomorrow evening. The faulty module is currently shut down so this update will not go out via email tonight and Bearstudy.org will be down some of the day tomorrow for upgrading.

Pine siskins
Pine siskins
The up side is that this should end the frustration that many of you have had lately regarding the updates. We?ve wondered why that was happening, and the webmaster believes this will solve it. Super!

Pine siskin
Pine siskin
Out the window, the flock of redpolls has turned into a smaller flock of pine siskins (Spinus pinus)?probably named by a poet. In a couple of the pictures, they are sitting on the hat of Manny the Mannequin?s twin that dresses with a locally made Wintergreen hat. The hat was designed for the dogsled trip that owner Paul Shurke made with Will Steger to the north pole some 30 years ago. Birds get used to coming to it for sunflower seed hearts. I remember some years ago when I stood where the mannequin had stood and 17 siskins landed on me at once. I had seeds on my head, shoulders, hands, arms, etc.

I look forward to Black Bear Field Course participants having close-up experiences with birds by the mannequin this mid-July through August. Fourteen slots are open yet at http://www.bearstudy.org/website/field-study-courses.html. Things are going well enough in the legislature that close-up bear experiences are a certainty.

Thank you for all you do.

Cal, the building looks so pretty blue! Wow! A streetcar. How cool! Wish we still had streetcars here. The track ran right down the middle of town. I think they did away with them in the late 1940's when the city bus line started.  What a mess those dogs did to that floor in the dog shame! Watched Hyacinth this morning. She was having a little get together with Liz and Emmet on a yacht which turned out not to be a yacht. In the end she and Richard fall into the river! Lol!

Jp, no one April fooled me yesterday. But I got Crow! Lol! The weather is April fooling us now. It is so windy and cold out today. We even have frost/ freeze warnings out tonight! :o Victor looks like a tough old bear!

Ra, hope you are having a good turnout for your sale! Everything is blooming here, too. Hope it does't get as cold tonight as they are predicting. My peonies are about 2 ft tall now so I 'll have to cover them tonight. Robin's wisteria is loaded with bloom but it's too tall to cover.  :(

Nora, Chester sounds like a very good dog! I'm glad you got him!

I came in to warm up. It is chilly out there! I got used to the warm temps and now I'm a wimp! We've been working on things outside concerning the old fence, getting ready for the fence guy to start on Wednesday. He was going to come Tuesday and start but we have to get the "Call before you dig" guy to come on Tuesday to make sure it's ok to dig 5 post holes! I've been inside now for an hour so I gotta go back and help! bbl!

Do you have city water out there Cal?  I can picture you mowing, have been there before.

It's warming up!  It's up to 31 and feels like a "warm" 21 now.  That WNW wind is awful!!

KC looks really nice!  Neat street car.  Wow to Union Station!

Victor is a neat old guy  :)

Cal - "home opener" like baseball already??  Sigh.  At least there was a break from football.  Sorry, I know a lot of you guys like that stuff.

Rues I'm mad at myself.  Chester's hair is fine and soft like with border collies.  He's got some knots by his ears I can't get undone and we had to go to Rochester yesterday.  We ran into Pet Smart because I figured they might have the scissors with the curved ends to use on dogs and got hung up in the toy section and FORGOT!  Got him a Kong toy, he'll ruin anything else if he decides to lie down and chew it, his foster mom was definitely right on that.  Yet at the same time he carries things gently and if you give him a treat can hardly tell he's taking it out from between your fingers.  I doubt they have any of those scissors in Decorah, but I can check there next trip down.  I doubt Shopko would, they just opened here a couple weeks ago, but should take a run over there.

HI Jewelies!  Well, my daughter and the girls picked me up at 6:30 this morning... still dark.  They had SO MUCH STUFF!!  OMG!!  Their house must be empty!  lol  The girls' clothes for sale was almost embarrassing... since I had a big part in buying it all in the first place!  They did pretty good... around $400, I think.  There were so many clothes that we ended up telling the people that they could have all the clothes they could fit in a grocery bag for $5.00.  A couple of ladies pushed the limit, so they decided to discontinue the "bag sale".  lol  Still have a bunch of stuff left, so we'll probably have another one in a few months.  It's VERY windy here, too, but the temp is about 70o and it's sunny.

Nora... It sounds like you got a good dog.  I like a dog with manners!  I had to laugh at you forgetting to look for the scissors though!   ;D  I'm with you on the baseball season, but I love football!

rues... I'm wondering what prank you pulled on Crow, too...  We have a frost advisory here, too for tonight.  I have a couple of plants I'll cover.  I'm hoping the wind will stay long enough to keep the frost away.  Tomorrow I'm going to do some painting after it warms up.

cal... The dog shame dogs are SO bad!!  Can you imagine opening up your front door and seeing that??   :o  I can just see you mowing in your winter gear!  Must have been pretty funny!   :D  KC looks like a nice city!  They sure are dressed up for baseball!  I don't think we have any streetcars in SC.

JP... Looks like we were up at about the same time today!  I know you were much happier getting up so early!   ;)  I didn't get fooled yesterday either, but I may have acted like a fool at some point in the day, that's normal for me though!  lol

HI to all!

Hi cal!  I'm still having sign in issues here.  You know, go back a page to post or click on this or that, so I'm not a guest.  Yesterday it was really, really slow, but much better today.  I spent some money today at the sale...  lol... I got a comforter and some clothes and a cute children's cat book.  Something is choking me... I think the comforter is musty.  I had to take the bag out to the shed, but still choking.  It has to be dry cleaned... I'll do that this week, but need to take the comforter out to the shed until then.  Have to be able to breathe...  stupid allergy.

Cal and Ra, my April fool was silly...I told Crow that he must have sat in cat puke because he had something on his butt! He falls for that every year! :D

Ra, sounds like the sale went well! Did you buy the stuff from your sale or was it from someone else's?  We have had horrible winds blowing all day. Then it started raining and then hailing! It all stopped for a few minutes and then the rain and wind started back up. The wind isn't supposed to let up until after 1 am, so I don't know how I can cover my peonies because I'm pretty sure I'll be asleep by then! Our high tomorrow is only 50 and another frost tomorrow night.

Cal, big surprise for Jim when he hit the water line! :o Was that your water line he hit?  Funny about you dressed for winter and mowing! I had my gloves on and my hood up on my hoodie today while we were working outside. If that wind would just stop it wouldn't feel so cold. Wonder if you've seen your Hyacinth episode before? Lol!  I bet you could submit a lot of dog shame pics! Lol! I know Robin could! :D

Nora, I can't begin to count how many times I've gone after something and came home without it because I forgot! I even forget stuff when I have it written on the list! Boober loves his Kong. He likes it filled with peanut butter. Keeps him busy for a while. I've never had a cat or dog that had hair long enough that it needed trimmed! Those rounded scissors sound like a good idea! I'm not a sports fan at all! But I do like Olympic women's gymnastics.

Hope you all have a nice evening! :)

Oliana

Greetings ladies on this fine Sunday. I was not surprised to see Villanova win in last night's final four games.  But the way they manhandled Oklahoma was amazing.  When they beat Miami, and then Kansas, I was convinced they were going to win it all and I still am.  I do no think North Carolina can beat them.

I hope that those of you that are having a Winter relapse get warmer conditions.  It is delightful here with a little rain - very normal.

To all, hopes for a fine Sunday.
