Eli, a cub in 2013.

Nora, I am so sorry for you and Joe over the loss of your dear Sparky.  My heart is with you as you grieve.

ra, with the help of Tylenol and Tramadol over the last couple of days my back is fairly comfortable.  Sitting at the computer is O.K. for a little while but then I have to get into a more comfortable chair or sit on the couch.  I am also sleeping comfortably.  I am glad for you as you get the luck from that four-leaf clover.

Hoping all have a grand Friday.

St. Patrick?s Day - UPDATE March 17, 2016

NABC new look
NABC sporting a fresh look

Two of my Irish friends shared our common roots on this day with a poem that shares the joy that brought Lily Fans together. Susan Moloney wrote:

Deep in the wild lives a bear,
Sweet Mama beyond compare-
She?s queen o? the land;
The world thinks she?s grand-
?Tis our Lily Extraordinaire.

On this date 4 years ago, Lucky had his own celebration with ice and a toy on a sunny 65?F day in this 3-minute video captured by a Lily Fan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PwNlnx6x9Y.

Today, Holly investigated the fresh snow, but I?m not sure if she ate any in this video captured by a Lily Fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nZl4MtMpzA.

Last night, a Lily Fan caught 3 minutes of her eyeshine as she watched the snowfall out her door https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW4VfxK_jWA&feature=youtu.be.

Also last night, the Bear Center shined with new lights in the log entrance, snow on the bushes, and lights on the pictures. It?s coming together. The crew added 6 more logs to the entrance today and will soon frame the door with half-logs. The man who carved the beautiful signs inside is planning to begin work soon on a welcome sign to hang from the big cross-log and a life-size mother and cubs to be walking on top of that cross-log.

A bronze plaque that recognizes Lily Fans will greet visitors on one of the big front corner posts.

Thank you for all you do.

Thanks you guys on Sparky.  It was really a shock.  Joe has his rotator cuff repair the 14th of April and we'll do some looking around after that.  Meanwhile, I think the worst other than him not coming home with us yesterday was when we came home Joe's rehab.  We always laughed when we'd see that face peering out the window and then the baying would start before we got in the door......  :-\  It's too quiet in here.

The Bear Center looks fantastic with the lights on and the snow on the bushes/plants outside the front.

Aww little Eli was so cute  :)

Hi Jewelies!  Beautiful day again, around 80o.  I've been out painting my foundation again.  The first paint I got was too light and too gray.  Got more yesterday and it's ok, but still too light.  I only got a quart, but still...  Then, I layed in the sun for awhile... so relaxing.  Trying to get rid of the "winter whites".  lol

Nora... Besides Sparky not having a quality life, just think of the cost of his treatments.  You just never think you're gonna lose them so young though.  What a shame.  So sad for you.

cal... Cousin Janice sends such good stuff!  When they said St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland, I didn't think he DROVE them out!  lol  The bear center is beautiful!  Sure wish we could all go and see it!  What's little corn muffin doing while the others are playing?

Hi to JP, blschue, willi, Dlong, Eaglette, rues, obsver, and everyone else who reads here!

Nora, I'm so sorry.  :'( Hugs to you and Joe.

Cal, wonder if Corey Dog may have ran and played to hard yesterday and that caused his spell? Hope it's just a one time thing. Another good one from cousin Janice! That's so funny!  Cool that Jim is having his truck tailor made to his specifications! We did that with my 1979 Chevy Camaro! It took a couple months to get it and I could hardly wait.  Then a week after it arrived I found out I was pregnant. Almost traded it in on something more like a family car but that cherry red Camaro was just to pretty to let it go! Lol! Congrats to Polly and her lottery win! My sis and I won $7 last week and we were thrilled! lol!

Jp, I'm so happy you are getting some relief from the pain!

Ra, my neighbor treats her yard with some stuff so she has no weeds! She was a teacher for 30 yrs then she became a principal for 10 yrs. Now she is retired and I think she is bored. Everyone around us has mowed so I guess we are going to have to do it, too. But rain and snow flurries are coming tomorrow. We'll have to mow next week for sure because temps go back into the 70's. I can't remember ever mowing in March!

Dlong, great pics of the pandas! Love Bella the driver! I have a pic of Duke, Boo's dad, in the driver's seat of our truck. I'll post it when I get on my laptop. How was the corned beef and cabbage? We had a very unIrish meal yesterday...tacos! Lol!

Hi Willi and Blschue.

Hi, Jewelies! I wore my winter coat yesterday, and I will wear it in July if the cold continues!! We took the tour through Cosco, and I was amazed at all the various kinds of organic food. I think the price pretty much evens out to be similar to Sam's Club. We have mixed feelings and don't know yet what we are going to do. Nora, I'm so sorry about Sparky. Our pets sure leave a big hole in our lives when they are not there. It's plain to see that you gave him the best home possible. Ra, I still turn on my mattress pad before I go to bed. You are right--the heat does feel good to the back. Cal, you need to put yourself in a big plastic bubble to protect yourself from your furry family!!  Jp, glad you are getting some rest. Rues, keep the snow shovel out! Hi, Dlong, bischue, neva, Willi, deb, pat, chippy!

Makeover Auction - UPDATE March 18, 2016

Red squirrel
Red squirrel
A Fundraiser Auction has started for the Bear Center Makeover that runs through 4 PM on Sunday, March 20th. The fundraiser team has many baskets and items they are auctioning on the NABC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NorthAmericanBearCenter. They have baskets for BBQ, Coffee & Tea, and Camping.

Bear spotted in Duluth
Duluth bear
A Lily Fan spotted a bear near Duluth today. It?s the first bear sighting we?ve heard of.

Out the window, the suet was popular today with visits by chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, and more. The downy in the picture is a female (no red on the head) and not a hairy woodpecker. Downies are half the size of hairies and have a disproportionately smaller bill.

Thank you for all you do.
