Lol, Cal! I didn't listen to you and I did the first puzzle! Then I did the second one and only did it a couple seconds faster than the first! I found the first to be a little easier because I knew where most of the states belonged! Those New England states confuse me! It was fun! I was 4 minutes slower than your time! Lol! I noticed yesterday at Walmart that they only had one of those huge rawhides left and today it was gone. Practically all their cat toys were gone. Got some Christmas lights 50% off. Yay, I finally found the % sign!  I saw on the news all that bad weather out your way. You stay safe and be careful going outside. It's still raining here. Temps in the high 40's maybe up in the 50's tomorrow. I hope winter bypasses us. No, I'll pass on Drama sleeping on my back! :D I already sleep with a bed hog...Boo! He makes me so mad when he pulls the covers off me and lays on them. Then I can't get him to move over so I can cover back up. And he snores, too! And he runs in his sleep. That's the only time he runs! Lol!   Happy belated birthday yesterday to your boys!  You are on the ball....you already have next Christmas all planned out!

Obsver, I'm happy that you got to spend Christmas with your kids. Maybe someday your east coast daughter will get to come home for the holidays. It's nice that you could FaceTime with her. Where'd her boss go? How's your granddaughter's driving coming along?

Rues, her boss went to some resort in Mexico. One year she went to the Galapagos Islands. I'll see my daughter maybe in April. The grand wants her to come for high school graduation, but if it were to be delayed to make up for snow days (if we ever have any) , then she'd still be in school. My daughter has always come the week of spring break.  The grand says the driving is good. Hopefully, that's true.  I just turned on the mattress pad for each side. Sat. night, I went to sleep with it on high, woke up at 12:09 in a sweat, feeling terrible. I try to turn it off before I go to sleep, but that time, the warm bed felt so good. Ra, I guess you won't be needing the heated pad tonight!!

RC lapping up nuts.

I haven't had a major oversleep in a  long time but really did today.  I think it is because I am not feeling very good.

I'll improve.  I do wish all a great Tuesday.

Still, no internet at the WRI. They ARE working on it though, so we will be back soon. Little Holly joined us on December 27, 2013. Here is a video of her playing in the snow on her first day at the NABC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hgbBzFHQkk - LG

Boo doesn't sound like a good bed partner Rues.  I'm usually right on the edge of the bed and Sparky's behind me, like RIGHT behind me so he's farther away from Joe.  If Joe's leg, arm, anything touches him in his sleep, or me, he shoves, whether it's with a hand or foot.  He can pack a wallop with those feet.

Cal, bet Corey Dog has built up some undercoat or extra hair of some sort even if a person can't really tell being he was outside so long before you got him, no wonder he won't stay under the covers.  :D

Not sure exactly how much snow we got.  Dog run might be about 6-7 inches, other places around are almost to the grass or a couple feet deep depending where it blew.  That wind was something else yesterday.  Got it shoveled out good by the gate going into the dog run, out from the garage door, and porch cleared off along with the short sidewalk going out to the main one.  Our friend Mark from up the street (that like to walk Sparky) is going to ride down on his dad's lawn tractor with a snowblower on it and get the main walk for us and go on down to his son's down the block from us.  A neighbor down that way always runs in with his plow and is cheap.  That stuff is heavy this time.  Some is wet and there's also some sleet mixed in that packs.

Here's some Key West Christmas lights.  A lot of people decorate their houses with lights and they have an annual lighted boat parade.

hi nora! sun is out but my barn sidewalk still ice. i went to let the girls out but could not slide the door. and they were right behind me come on come on..so i had to go all the way around thru the snow wearing my tennis shoes. slipped going over the gate but did not fall. got to the corral and sank down in cold wet mud past my shoes..here i got that toe fungus dermo doc been trying to treat for a year almost. had to shovel the frozen snow blocking the door from sliding. feet are freezing so i got mad and started shoveling and got it back enough for them to get out. i am overloaded and babe is starting this getting up getting up. got to go.

Cal, I bet your toes were frozen! I can't stand to have my toes or fingers cold!  Corey dog quickly acclimated himself at your house! It's like he has always lived there! Took Boo to the vet today to get his hard macaroni nails trimmed. When I was paying the bill this guy came in with his little dog named Shorty. He looked similar to Corey dog. While the guy was signing in, Shorty cocked up his leg and peed on the wall!  :o Those boy dogs just do it wherever! :D Going to do the puzzle now!

Jp, love the lights in the palm trees! Bet the lighted boat parade is beautiful to see! RC has a very long tongue! Hope you are feeling better now.

Obsver, nice places that the boss visited! I always wanted to travel when I was younger but not so much now! I'm a home body.  Hope the weather cooperates and all your spring plans work out! I still haven't gotten a heated mattress pad!

Nora, Boo is the worst bed partner! He's under the covers and gets too hot and wants out. Then he gets cold and wants under again. Over and over. No wonder I'm tired in the morning! Sounds like you got some snow! You have some very nice neighbors to help you with the snow removal! I could go all winter without a bit of snow here and be so happy! :D

Hi Jewelies!  Nice sunny day today, but floods yesterday and more coming tomorrow.  Glad we had a day to dry out, at least.  Even had a tornado in the mountains yesterday.  Just as I was going to post yesterday, my laptop went black... couldn't get it to do anything, so I went to bed.  When I turned it on today, it was fine.  Who knows what happened!!  It was nice to see so many of our regulars yesterday.  Lots and lots of talk around here about the Clemson game Thursday and I'm surprised at how many cars have something Clemson on them.  Can't wait for the game!

JP... Thanks for the pics of the Christmas lights in Key West!  I bet that boat parade is pretty cool!

obsver... I haven't turned on my mattress pad for a long time!  Lately, I've had the ceiling fan on.  Lows have been so warm, they said it's like the lows in July!  Glad you had a nice family gathering for Christmas.

cal... Thanks for the pics yesterday!  Boo Boo has such long legs!!  What a big boy!  Polly looks good!  I guess winter finally showed up at your house, too.   Sounds like Corey Dog has a new home.   :D

rues... Got any New Year's Eve plans?  Is Robin traveling?

Hi to everyone!

Lily, last summer

I'm feeling all right. Guess that was just an adjustment after all I have been stuffing down into my stomach the last several days.  So many goodies - candy, cookies, fruit cake, etc.

Two days left in 2015, where did it go?

Time Flies When You're Having Fun - UPDATE December 29, 2015

Holly's first day at the NABC - 12/27/13
Holly at the NABC - 12/27/13
How many of you remember Dec 27, 2013? That is the day Holly bear arrived at her forever home at the NABC. Holly had traveled a long way, arriving on a cold day with plenty of snow. It is now two years and two days later and she is hibernating in that same bunker den. Much has changed for Holly bear, she is bigger, more confident and she has made a friend, Lucky.

The following videos show some den activities from today. Holly worked on her footpads and also briefly left the den, perhaps to urinate or eat some snow. Lucky took advantage of Holly's absence to "borrow" some of her straw. After settling back down, they both arranged their straw and made their beds.

Many visitors at the NABC believe that black bears sleep all winter long. Our four ambassador bears do not sleep all winter and typically, neither do wild bears. Hibernation is the least studied aspect of a black bear's life. Den cams allow us to see bear behavior without any human influence and have proven to be a great educational tool.

In a few days it will be 2016, the perfect time to consider a New Years resolution. If you have been thinking about taking a Black Bear Field Course, make 2016 the summer that you treat yourself. Participants say it is a life changing experience. Registration is open now at http://www.bearstudy.org/website/bear-course-registration.html?view=category&layout=table. Register early to get the dates that work best for you.

If you have not yet visited the North American Bear Center, make 2016 the year to spend a few days in Ely. The NABC continues to be the "#1 Thing to Do" in the Ely area according to Trip Advisor. The staff and others are busy working on the facelift inside the bear center as well as the new entryway. We can't wait for our big spring opening.

If you are a Lily Fan and would like to volunteer your time and help others learn the truth about black bears visit our volunteer page at http://www.bear.org/website/volunteer.html to learn what positions are available and if interested you can fill out a volunteer application form. We have an on-site program called the Bear Educator Volunteer Program where you would be volunteering on premises at the NABC. We also have many off-site volunteering opportunities.

Do you know a student in college studying biology, ecology, wilderness management, environmental sciences and other related fields? We have a Bear Educator Intern program designed for students wanting experience in a non-profit educational facility. This internship will help them further their educational and career goals. Have them check out the volunteer page at http://www.bear.org/website/volunteer.html and read the Bear Educator Intern description. They can contact [email protected] for a complete position description and application form.

Consider making a 2016 resolution that will make a difference for black bears everywhere and at the same time enjoy the uplifting benefits of volunteering! As Ethel Percy Andrus once said, "The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live."

Thank you for all you do.
