Brrr, Jewelies, it's cold outside! Gradual warm up coming each day and then Friday we could get 5-8 inches of snow! Ewww.

Cal, I googled those Hyacinth episodes and I still don't know remember what I watched!! I knew the dog's name was either Choe or Zoe because I remember Richard calling for the dog and he said it with a long "eeee".  :D. We went to Walmart this morning and there was hardly anyone there! We got to park right up close to the store! Of course it was only 11 degrees at 9:30 and a holiday so not many people were out and about! Were  there many at your store this morning?  Hope Polly is able to come this week but if the roads are bad it's best for her to stay put!  Sometimes I take a Tylenol PM when I have a hard time getting to sleep. Most times I fall asleep at 10:45 and miss the end of a program!  :D  Just heard of another death...Glenn Frey of the Eagles. He was 67. Love their music.

Jp, nice pic of Bill the bear! Sometimes those bear names just crack me up! :D Hope the sun came out for you today!

Neva, I feel for you! Like your one daughter, I'm the one in the middle trying to stay out of it! This all started 2 years ago when younger sis didn't want to celebrate Christmas at older sis's house anymore. Instead she suggested we go out for a nice dinner at a nice restaurant. Sounded good to me because I didn't particularly like older sis's cooking! :D Older sis had a fit and hung up on younger sis. That ended the holiday get togethers with older sis. They hadn't spoken to each other  until older sis had emergency surgery this past summer. Younger sis went with me to the hospital every day sis was in there and they spoke a little to each other. After sis was discharged it was back to no speaking again!  Now somehow I came out of this smelling like a rose! Older sis never asked me my thoughts on the subject and I never volunteered. Having lived in AZ for 25 years, older sis loves the desert. Maybe she can come eat a turkey sandwich with you next year!  :D Crow and Robin love Netflix!

Ra, I love kittens, too! That's the cutest video! Are you expecting any snow this week?

Willi, Denny Crane was a hoot! Loved him in Boston Legal!

Eaglette, Cal wears me out, too! She is definitely a Wonder Woman! :D

Dlong, how you doing? Did you see Bei Bei on the news?

Hi Obsver, Nora!

Hi Jewelies!  Really cold here today.  Since it was a holiday, I didn't even have to go out of the house to go to the mailbox.  The only outside air I got was opening the front door, opening the back door, opening the front door again, then the back door... Handsome has the impression that I'm a doorman, I think...  Today I signed up to get DirecTV.  I hope I haven't made a bad mistake.  I got my Uverse bill and it had gone up over $60, my introductory offer had run out.  I'm not paying that much.  So, I called them and this is what they came up with for me.  I'm a little scared...  Anyway, the guy is coming out Saturday to install it.

rues... Hopefully no snow here.  Maybe you won't get any either.  We can hope, right?  Sure is cold though...

cal... You make all of us tired with all you do!  I can't imagine.  I have only worked one time since last Tuesday and that was the office Friday night.  You asked about the office, didn't you?  It's only a little over a mile from my house, so no big deal.  It's on Main Street.  Don't have to work tomorrow morning either.   I've had some kind of bug or something.

Hi to everyone !  Have a nice evening!

Here is Ted, with an itchy back.

Laugh if you want to but Br-r-r.  It is 59o outside, right now, and 64o in my apartment.  The space heater will help after it gets going but it will only heat a small area.  I am cold.  North wind at 30 knots is the culprit along with El Ni?o.

We have a mystery puzzler who is very adept at solving.  I guess we will never know.

I am going back under the covers and may start planning a move to Ecuador or Panama.

Cubs Due - UPDATE January 18, 2016

Fern looking at gull - 06/15/15
Fern looking at gull - 06/15/15
On the way to work in the cold, I again was thinking about 7-year-old Jewel getting ready to have her third litter if she hasn?t already. I think of how at first Jewel was defensive and tense but has now become mellow and calm. I used to be careful around her but now feel relaxed myself.

Daisy - 06/19/15
Daisy - 06/19/15
Another bear I look forward to seeing this summer is Jewel?s 4-year-old daughter Fern who we thought might have cubs in 2015 and most certainly will have them this year. Another 4-year-old like that is Sophie. Lily Fans remember Sophie and her mother Juliet from the BBC series Planet Earth Live that featured them in 2012. Somehow, Fern and Sophie grew up to be unusually gentle and trusting at the feeding stations they visit. I never hear of them being seen elsewhere. Nuisance complaints the last couple years have been zero, so none of the bears around here are too bad. Black Bear Field Course participants are in for a treat with these three bears and their cubs.

A bit of a mystery is why 5-year-old Daisy didn?t have cubs the last two years when she was 3 and 4. She should certainly have cubs this year. Another nice bear.

Sophie - 07/07/14
Sophie - 07/07/14
17-year-old RC should have her 8th litter. RC has produced more cubs (19) than any bear in the study except 29-year-old Shadow (at least 26 cubs) and 16-year-old Donna (also 19 cubs). RC and Donna are tied for second place. Donna has been having 4 cubs per litter lately, as if she is in a race to be in second place all by herself, but she and RC live at opposite ends of the study area and probably never see each other and don?t know there is a race.

Other bears that should have cubs are 13-year-old Colleen (daughter of Donna) and 7-year-old Samantha (daughter of Braveheart).

9-year-old Lily is probably snuggled extra close to her 3 yearlings in this weather.

At the Bear Center, Honey got a live camera today. It?s a bright clear picture but it might be best seen at night because shadows make it too dark to see in her Chalet den. By night, the infra-red light brightens it nicely inside. Honey had a couple visitors in this 1-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpLWrdkKceA.

Thank you for all you do.

Jewelies, it is COLD here!!!!! Cal, please take good care of yourself--those outside chores take a lot out of you (as if you didn't already know that). Rues, if you looked good back then, you obviously didn't have as many bad hair days as I did! lol lol  Yes, James Spader certainly was a cutie. Ra, when do you go back to your full work schedule? Neva, the turkey sandwich sounds good right now, and I've never seen a desert. My kids all get along, but they don't get a chance to spend much time with each other. I'm an only child. Hi, Eaglette,  Dlong, Willi, bischue, JP, deb, pat!

Cal, that spot puzzle was fun! I have found that I can do the puzzles much faster on my iPad! But still not as fast as most here can! :D You know how I sing the black bird song, well, I also sing the feed the birds tuppence a bag, tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag song  when I feed the birds!  :D The last couple days I've had to fill the feeders up each day because it's so cold out. I cut up some apples and bread hoping the robins would have something to eat only to look outside and see Boo eating it! :o I had to go bring him inside!  They are still calling for heavy wet snow on Friday. Crow shooting George  called and said he got his generator out and ready to go. He lives in the country where power outages are common in bad weather. Hope it's not as bad as they are predicting. I bet Corey dog is so happy he found you! :)

Jp, a friend of my sister winters on the Florida gulf coast in a trailer court about a block from the water.. She said they had winds the other day over 70 mph! They were scared to death. Several of their neighbors had their boats sunk! They have been wintering there for many years and have never seen such weather! Hope your day warmed up for you!

Ra, Crow had direct tv or dish one time because he could get lots of sports channels. I kept my cable! :D Then something happened and he cancelled it! You can always try it out and cancel if you don't like it! Our cable bill goes up all the time. We pay $184.32 a month that includes cable, Internet and phone. Also extra sport channels for the sport nut in the family! I'm the doorman around here, too! If it's not Molly wanting out it's Boo and vice versa! They never want out at the same time! Then barking at the door wanting back in!

Obsver, way back when my hair was parted in the middle and half way down my back! Only maintenance was bleaching my roots and an occasional straight cut trim on the ends!  :D

HI Jewelies!  It's COLD here today, too!  Didn't even get up to 40o!!  Might get some snow tomorrow...  Ick!

cal... If I get snow tomorrow, it's coming from you!  On it's way now.  Do me a favor?  Send it the other way or something... I don't want it.  Thanks, anyway.   :D  Did you get hit hard today?  How are your roads?  Did Polly get to come or are the roads too bad?  I know you'll miss her, but if she can't come, she's safe. Right?  I'm not getting HBO or the NFL channel... I wouldn't watch them.  If games aren't on local stations or ESPN, I hardly ever watch them.  I'm not sure what they call the package I'm getting.  They didn't even ask if I wanted the service plan... I wonder why.

rues... Did I tell you guys that my youngest grand is going to be in a pageant at her middle school?  It's in April I think.  I hate pageants, but she begged, so she gets to be in it.  I told my daughter today that this can be her new activity... like the oldest one has cheering.  She got a dress yesterday and showed me a picture of herself in it... she looks too old!  She's only 13!!  I can't even imagine what she will look like with all the makeup on.   How long did Crow have DirecTV?  They told me that if I cancel the contract before 2 years, I have to pay $20 a month anyway.  Cal likes it, hope I do, too.

obsver... I worked this afternoon and it took me almost twice the time it should have... so... I'm not sure what kind of schedule I'll have for awhile.  Tomorrow, I'll be doing the two offices that I was supposed to do on Monday.  I leave the house before 6am... we'll see how that goes.

JP... Maybe our mystery puzzle solver will show their face someday.  We have to keep our ears to the ground and see if we can figure out who it is!

Hi to everyone and hope you're all keeping warm tonight!

This is Crackle, one of Braveheart's first cubs.

It is one degree cooler outside this morning, 58o, ditto inside but I am surviving albeit not comfortably.  I haven't worn this much clothing since I moved out of Rochester, NY.

My hopes are for all of you to have warmer weather.  The Weather Channel said that 71% of the Continental U.S. was in temps below freezing.  Best of wishes to all, even the mystery puzzle solving wizard.

ily as a Cub - UPDATE January 19, 2016

Lily - 02/21/07
Lily - 02/21/07
We found an old video that had been uploaded to YouTube of a den taken February 21, 2007, but we weren't sure what it was at first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tSjHvGikh0 It?s 18 minutes long with the best part between 3 and 7 minutes into it. The video starts with little feet sticking up out of a bear?s fur. Watching more, at about 3 ? minutes into it, a light-colored face pops up?Lily! It is June?s den. The den we visited many times to take video from the entrance like I?d like to do at Jewel?s den this winter if we don?t get a Den Cam.

June and Lily - 02/21/07
June and Lily - 02/21/07
2007 was an exciting winter going to June?s den and getting video like we?d never gotten before. It was the first of our high definition video. We?d put the camera on the mound of dirt (snow-covered) outside the den and usually leave it running an hour or so and then bring it back and see what we got. Seeing little month-old Lily in this video was especially exciting now after all she has done. June - 08/13/12
June - 08/13/12
It was the first major education we did about bears in dens.

Somehow, video got on a TV station and others called to be part of it. Little Lily (not named yet, I believe), siblings (Cal and Bud) and her mother (6-year-old June) ended up as part of 9 TV programs that winter?a harbinger of the education Lily?s life would eventually signify. The video has nice close-ups of her face. I look forward to what Jewel and her cubs will show us in their den this winter.

Thank you for all you do.
