Thanks, Shep.  Sounds like it was a very good training morning.  And building stamina, too.

September 2, 2015       Wenzday

Sept 1, 2015  Training video
It?s that time of year when fog delays start at 7:43 am central time.
Once out of the enclosure Brooke immediately took off so that the eager flyers couldn?t get ahead of him and off they flew into the slight haze still lingering on the north end of the training area over the marsh.
All six are doing incredibly well, which is a stark contrast to last year?s cohort at this time.

I couldnt resist snips of the sun-splashed marsh dawn
There WILL be no aircraft training Sept. 5-6

Thanks, Shep.  I love the watermelon eating pic - Maybe they'll have a watermelon seed spitting contest!  :D  I noticed in that pic that it looks like two colts are wearing dark blue leg bands - must be the light - the bird second from left and the 4th bird, on far right and partially hidden, both appear to be wearing same color blue bands in this pic.

I'm so glad they are starting migration soon - and the birds are ready!  Last year was such a struggle to make progress once migration started, due to many factors - mostly weather.  If the birds are ready to migrate now, I wonder why they are waiting till the 20th to start  (though I know it takes some time to get set up to start)?  I know they have a reason for why - I just haven't been over to their site to read all the details yet, but I will.  I usually start reading all the details directly from the OM site once migration gets under way.  It's been nice getting your updates here.

baz, they cant leave on migration until after their Crane Festival.
Whooping and sandhill crances in the wild dont migrate anywhere near this early.
They ARE gathering into flocks tho.
