Maybe the WBs can stand in for Joe and the Trike for a training spin or two?   :D ;) :D

Thanks for the update, Shep!

Glad the trike is fixed.  (The mechanic should take the first flight in it... just saying...  ;) :D ;D )

I like the WBs being around - especially since they seem to be of some "parental" help.  Maybe they are a "positive" in terms of imprinting implications... just a guess on my part about that of course.   At least maybe they give the chicks some "perspective" on what adult Whoopers really look like... LOL.

YES baz that is exactly correct.
OM Heather who I call Captain Heather has said the adults are a good influence.
They are never aggressive to chicks - thankfully!
The pilots have more than enuf on their minds than dealing with aggressive adults!
(like keep the trike engine running - lol   ;D  )

The pilot did not take off into the air - but the chicks did - total loss of control as cranes fly every direction
6.35  already over.  I wonder if something was wrong

Aug 8 video begins with a cute sandpiper bathing
See how eager these cranes are to fly and be free after 2 days penned up
Joe didnt fly with them today - I dont know why

Thank you Shep and Oma for your posts and updates here today.

For those who may perch and visit this thread who may not have seen this info yet...

Please take a moment to remember Bob Anderson, the founder, inspiration and leader of the Raptor Resource Project, who died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 27th.  He is loved, missed, and mourned by his worldwide "family," in addition to his personal family, friends, and RRP associates.  Bob was memorialized and remembered today in Decorah, Iowa, in a special service for a Celebration of His Life.  I encourage you to view the special slide show noted in the article below that was put together by RRP Forum Administrator and good friend of Bob, Amy Ries, and the story of some of Bob's boyhood life as told by his family, also noted with a link in the post below.

Copied below is a post today from the public RRP FB page at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Raptor-Resource-Project/103786266324668?fref=nf :

Raptor Resource Project
12 hrs - Edited

Today we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Bob Anderson.

Our sorrow has been tempered by the outpouring of love, kind messages, condolences, and memories shared by all of you recalling how Bob and the Raptor Resource Project has impacted your life, and we thank you all so much for your pledge to come together to bring Bob's dreams and goals to fruition.

Amy has created a beautiful slide show celebrating Bob's life at: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/70328347

And in our blog link, there is a bit of Bob's boyhood history shared by his family in, "Our Brother Bob".
http://raptorresource.blogspot.com/2015/08/our-brother-bob-anderson.html

We hope that these will bring you comfort today as you are with us in spirit.

Please excuse the Facebook Team if we aren't as diligent about answering posts this weekend -- everyone has done an amazing job since the sudden loss of our dear friend and we will be taking our own private time to honor and remember him.

We will not be live streaming the Celebration of Life today, but Amy is still working out details to see if it will be videotaped and available later. Please be patient, and we will keep you posted if that is going to be possible or not.

Thank you!

ps .. Thanks to our RaptorResource Mod for creating this beautiful graphic.

Thanks baz!
I read the memorial of Bob by his family dated Aug 7
http://raptorresource.blogspot.com/2015/08/our-brother-bob-anderson.html

I grew up in Minnesota!
I know all those spots they talk about!  I may well have met Bob - but with a name as common as Anderson it jogs no memories.  His family really took me into those spots in my imagination.  Very well written!  I never knew Bob personally.  I wonder if Mr GSB the falcon cam man will quit his job and take over where Bob left off.

When OM gives the crane chix mellons, you just never know what they will DO with them, clever birds!
On migration to entertain the chix they are sometimes given punkins to peck n eat.  Entertains us too!

Aug 8 Article by pilot Joe Duff
The Wisconsin weather and a rough running aircraft engine and the result is that the birds are anxious to spread their wings. Saturday morning wasn?t great either. The ceilings were low, the humidity high and the winds were rolling over the trees causing turbulance just above the surface.  (I thot Joe's training was awfully short - thats why he didnt go UP with the birds)  2015 chix can fly for 3 or 4 minutes at a time so we braved the bumpy hair and decided to at least give them a little more practice, even if the trike didn?t actually leave the ground.  Read Joe's entire article.

- shep and baz; thanks for all of the videos, slideshow and other tributes to Bob :) :) I can honestly say that I have viewed every one at least 2 or 3 times and I just cannot watch them anymore. :( :(
From what I have read today; it looks like John Howe is a great selection. He is young and my guess from his photo is that he is in his early 40's.
