For hunters and friends: Non-toxic shot links and info
« on: October 20, 2014, 12:17:17 PM »

I thought I'd post some links specific to hunting with non-toxic shot.  Thanks to SOAR for all of their work on hunting lead free. Please be sure to visit http://www.soarraptors.org/HuntLeadFree.html for more information and resources. If you have links to lead-free ammo sources, post them below and I'll add them.

Thanks for starting this thread on lead free ammunition options and tutorials.  Here is a great study done at the Grand Canyon National Park in AZ

Thanks, Amy, for starting this very important thread.  I've had these 2 links saved for quite a while.  The State of Minnesota compares Copper bullets with Lead bullets in the first one with some comments from the University of Minnesota Raptor Center:

And Amy, you provided us in the past with this 2nd article about "Copper Opportunities"

Amy, thank you for starting this timely thread.

Here is a link to an article about alternative ammo.  It presents a good case for using non-toxic ammunition, and the reasons it is important to do so.

This article has a good discussion on the research done in Texas on steel vs. lead shot for dove hunting.

I am posting this in a few threads because it's that time of year.

I would hope some hunters and fishermen out there have a New Year's resolution - Switch to Non-Lead Ammunition and Non-Lead Fishing Tackle.  This is for Bald Eagles, for other raptors, for wildlife, for your family, and for the environment's sake.  So many deaths can be prevented.  You can make a difference.

And, 2 months later, here's a newspaper article that discusses the research.  Every side of the debate is discussed.

Lead ammunition isn't only a threat to wildlife.

Free, non-lead ammunition is available through Game and Fish departments of southern Utah and the state of Arizona for hunting in the California condor's core range.

Here's the story describing the program:  http://www.paysonroundup.com/news/2015/sep/11/game-and-fish-providing-non-lead-ammo/
