Awww, thanks for the updates, shep
-
Lisa, I love this pair! :-*
Bo is so sweet to her
She came CLOSE to going into the nest with him today
The Racine falcon is there every day.
He seems to see his mate and call to her but she wont go in yet
Last year my little Breezy at Elk River wouldnt go inside the box with the male til she was good n ready.
I think this has significance
-
They do look like a sweet pair.
My niece works in downtown Baltimore, and the building where this cam is located is near her building.
-
March 15, 2019
Well .. a prey gift didnt work either
she flew off :D
poor Bo
She may lay an egg any day
;) Lisa, Im jealous! Have her keep an eye in the sky!

March 17
She is hanging around - was in the nest -
a couple times I thot she was about to lay her egg
Should be any hour now
-
March 19, 2019 dawn
I finally saw both Barb and Bo in nest together
doing the peep n bow
Barb was in the nest lookin for a spot to lay her egg and Bo came flying in eagerly!
Before this, Barb was preening out on the steps - and I think thats a brood patch

Do you know where Boh got his name, shep?
At one time, there was a beer manufactured in the area called National Bohemian. It became known as "Natty Boh", and although the beer no longer exists, that is where Boh's name came from.

only 3 eggs - what happened to egg 4?
Chesapeake Conservancy
Hi everyone, we were closed for Good Friday and had an event on Thursday, sorry to have missed the chatter here. We?re confident a human did not move the egg.
April 19 at 7:23pm 3 eggs
19 April hail must have broken one egg and Barb removed it from nest
March 22 there was a hail storm. I was watching live and Barb was off when it began
I did not watch this nest after egg 4 was laid.
BCAW posted there are only 3 eggs so I looked on explore

April 22, 2019
I guess we are on pip watch later this week
7.20 am Eggs have been alone for at least 15 minutes
Barb is a good mom. Her first year everyone called her crazy girl.
Now I remember that with affection and humor, she is odd.
8.30 She is back on eggs - she was off over an hour
Boh was on guard on the outside of that bridge
-
April 23, 2019 Temp 56
3.30 am I saw a falcon come into nest thru the door and head to eggs.
Its DARK and no IR so I was amazed to see activity!
5.30 am I see the outline of Barb in doorway - still too dark to see anything else
She is cherishing her freedom before 3 hungry kids will want 24/7 attention!
5.45 am FFD = First Fingers of Dawn tint skyline, and falcon heads to eggs
6 am I can now see Barb on her eggs with Bo on guard on the other side of the bridge.
6.15 Lots of turning and scrunching as she helps her babies hatch
7.15 am No one on eggs
7.35 Barb is back - I am not catching exact times - too busy
8 am Bo has egg duty
9.10 am one is about to hatch
#2 may be close behind
I think I saw 2 of em tryin to git out
or - perhaps its just the shading of light -?
12.45 pm Barb is shielding the eggs from hot sun, panting
I keep trying to look UNDER her - lol
1.50 pm shade covers Barb and eggs - whew
1 pm eggs are safe in shade so Barb leaves - she needs water or a juicy pigeon
I still say they're hatching
falcon back on eggs peeping - looking up
7.20 pm I got a pic of eggs
Its warm, eggs will be fine.
I have seen falcons remove a non viable egg from the nest - or push it off to the side. This year I am seeing falcons delay laying compared to that birds previous year. One falcon has lost 2 mates and is now trooping on feeding 4 chicks. Instictively they know how to delay hatch by not incubating.
I am always so surprised to see birds ACTIVE all night long!
I watch a lot of nest cams, and its eye opening for me

WHERE IS BO?
April 24, 2019 Temp 68 - 75
6.15 am Barb is on her eggs
7.15 WHERE IS BO? Barb keeps looking for him and calling.
That end spot looking like a hatching chick yesterday - but it hasnt changed, so ...
12.45 pm Another falcon is harassing her as she stands over eggs in hot sun
She kaks at it. I seriously doubt its Boh.
3 pm She leaves eggs and goes on top of bridges to look around
03:05pm, Barb sees something to the left and leaves in a hurry.
CAM ZOOMED ON EGGS
Boh has always been faithful to Barb and his eggs.
Is Boh still around? Is it possible ANOTHER MALE is around?
Barb took over this spot after fighting the first female
THAT would explain Barb being the only one incubating
in Kentucky, the female lost her mate and is feeding 4 beeks alone -
and doing FANTASTIC

April 25, 2019 Temp 62 rain
6 am There's Barb on eggs
7.20 am Barb gets up, stretchs, goes up on the bridge and peers over,
- takes a quick fly and is right back on eggs
7.30 off again, but right back - poor girl
9 am She takes another 5 minute flybreak,
- returns mumbling - Boh where in the GHO are you?!
8.08 another break - top of bridge - bobs head - looks down, up, side to side
8.11 she dives
8.12 back
She best hunt, eat NOW - cant once chicks hatch!
There is still another falcon flying around there.
Could be another male seeking a mate or last years fledge

NUBO
I think this is a male who wants Barb,
but - then he shud bring her dinner!
He has been buzzing her for a couple days now

Of course it could be last years fledge
I am certain its NOT Boh

Nubo
April 25, 2019 Temp 62 - 73
Boh went missing and a new male has been displaying for Barb
I will call him Nubo (new Boh)
6 am There's Barb on eggs
7.20 am Barb gets up, stretchs, goes up on the bridge and peers over,
- takes a quick fly and is right back on eggs
7.30 off again, but right back - poor girl
9 am She takes another 5 minute flybreak,
- returns mumbling - Boh where in the GHO are you?!
8.08 another break - top of bridge - bobs head - looks down, up, side to side
8.11 she dives
11.45 am She takes 5 minutes breaks
2 pm She goes up on the bridge then jumps off. Gone 5 minutes
She always returns peeping - I think she's talking to the spare falcon flying around
4.30 pm Nubo is coming closer & closer to the nest
- and Barb is not scolding
5.20 pm Barb is talking to Nubo - I cant see him but she can
She took another break, maybe to play with Nubo
After these courtship displays, Nubo should bring prey to her
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/76 ... fed8a9.png
She best hunt, eat NOW - cant once chicks hatch!
There is still another falcon flying around there.
Could be another male seeking a mate or last years fledge
Explore has notes and people are getting pictures
Nubo is a regular flyby
https://explore.org/livecams/falcons/pe ... onservancy
bcaw Terka took a pic of Boh April 22 so he was there then
I am encouraged! Barb knows what she has to do
Sorry if my notes are scattered

April 26, 2019 Temp 60-75 rains, Thunderstorms, 15-25mph Winds
Boh hasn't been seen since the 23rd
6 am Barb protecting her eggs from light rain
6.20 She is peeping, she hears Nubo reply - she's away only a minute or so
6.35 Another break - she may have heard him call, no way to know
- falcons will drop prey to each other in the air - we have no way to know if Nubo's doing this
6.38 she returns
6.48 - OK I am NOT going to type each break - she's on eggs 5, break, eggs, break
:) ** She hocked up a hork so she HAS eaten something!
7 am Barb is vocalizing, not kakking but looks stronger than friendly peeping.
- Nubo is flying back & forth, whoosh whoosh, probly begging her come & play
- Perhaps she is saying I have a FAMILY you nincompoop! Bring me FOOD!
She sure is vocalizing up a storm
-
:D The BONDING!
8.20 am Barb gives him hell, up quick, exits, dives to our right
She returns shortly - it *appeared she deposited something, assume prey, on step
9.45 am Nubo lands on bridge, comes down to curb, Barb does NOT threaten
The 2 dance around in the falcon PEEP n BOW bonding routine
He acted like he wanted her to move eggs under shade of bridge
He visited the discarded egg, stood over it, then RAN back to Barb who chased him off
He stays a VERY LONG TIME! I was astonished!
9.15 He is gone. I took many pics - will edit & post
He was so BOLD
-
Nubo stayed about half hour
Too busy snipping pics to keep exact track
He was VERY BOLD
Came right into her nest - boldly!
What a beautiful falcon!
He seemed to want to get closer to the eggs,
but Mama Barb wasnt having THAT
-
Thank you for the updates, shep!
Are the eggs due to hatch anytime?
-
YES - NOW
What an AWFUL time for a mate - change!
-
11.30 am Barb has left Nubo ALONE in the nest with her eggs - I assume to go eat
He scrapes under the bridge - surely he wont move the eggs there!
He is examining every inch of the nest - tasting everything
I knew he'd guard the eggs but probly not incubate
He looks at the eggs which he can likely HEAR
11.40 he left and Barb returned right away and SCOLDED him.
- This is playing out just like Kentucky
I am surprised she's already left him alone there
But its a good sign

here is video of when new male was first seen. He appears older than one was at Mill creek. sassy and not skittish
will have to see how it plays out as he is in later than one was at mill creek and not all males are accepting of eggs and chicks although, he did not harm them when he was left alone with them. see if he brings a food gift.
every nest , every falcon different

:) Nubo babysits
April 27, 2019 Temp 50-70 windy
6.15 am She alerts and looks and calls and Nubo showed up,
- giving her proper deference, stays outside nestbox
8) He is adorable! Barb appreciates his companionship - well, maybe
Barb peeps but is NOT getting up, she needs a giant pigeon, hoping Nubo takes the hint
Is he willing to help raise another male's kids? Stay tuned
April is still mating season. Barb laid her first 3 eggs in April 2015 - her first year
6.25 Barb flies off leaving Nubo to guard
6.30 he hops into the nestbox - glances at eggs
6.35 Mom returns - he stayed the whole time! GOOD BOY!
Now we wait for him to gift Barb a pigeon
He is a BEAUTIFUL falcon!

7.45 am LOL! I see feet under the bridge! Way cute!
9.17 he is still out there - peeking under - curious?
- Barb is intent on eggs, they should be hatching this weekend
Some males at some nests love to help raise young, has Nubo raised young before?
10.11 am She calls & calls and Nubo comes running across the roof - lol
12.25 pm Barb vocalizes to Nubo then flies off - I dont see Nubo and no pip
12.33 she's back
4 pm she took a brief break
https://youtu.be/ndsdHPGVQ2g
I wonder if Boh was sick and we didnt realize it.
All Barb's eggs have hatched in the past.

6.45 She calls - no rain here yet, LOTS coming
6.47 There he is flying by - she gets up and joins him - offcam
6.53 Nubo arrives inside nest to watch eggs
7 am Barb returns = I believe she ate
I suspect he brot her prey at the offcam end of the roof
From his degree of interest, he must have raised chicks before

INTRUDER!
8.30 It was over fast - whatever that was!
I went to DVR and one click at a time watched what happend

He is a great protector! He was RIGHT THERE!
In my opinion, Nubo is saying

I wish we had sound - she was likely kakking!
Nubo stayed with eggs - Barb chased

INTRUDER (unseen by cam)
10.20 am Barb begins YELLING, Nubo is right there, both looking up
Nubo takes off like a rocket after intruder and Barb goes to doorway and yells
WOW. What a great team they make!
Its a joy to see how protective Nubo is! :)
12 noon had to be an intruder again but I didnt see it
Barb started yelling, flew out and straight over that red bldg out there!
Nubo came scolding up a storm, guarding, first on bridge, inside nestbox then on roof

HATCH #2
April 30, 2019 Temp 56-80 chance of rain
6.10 am Barb goes to get brekky from their stash and feeds 2 babies
- Clearly Nubo's raised young before, he has nice sized meals stashed
11 pm last nite Egg 2 hatched. Will egg 3 hatch?
As kids eat I see #3 thru hole in egg 3 eager to get out! Probly today
In previous years, ALL Barbs eggs have hatched
I really think Nubo chased Boh off. Just my opinion.
Boh was so meek - sweet but meek - he probly didnt fight
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
6.45 Nubo appears with a nice little snack, Barb takes it back to the stash, saying -
- Where were you half hour ago, I already fed em!
8 am Barb is chattering away with Nubo as he stands by - out on the roof
10 am feed
1.30 Barb leaves, Nubo comes to guard
Baby spins round n round waiting for Mom to return
2 pm and Nubo knows chicks need food, Mom gone half hour
- He even goes into the nest and up to comfort chicks by beeking
He was on the roof and under the bridge too!
2.10 Mom's home, stands awhile, hoping egg 3 will hatch - its workin hard in there!
4.45 Barb leaves, Nubo comes to guard, no feed
5.55 Barb leaves, Nubo comes to guard, no feed
There were times I didnt see either parent
7.45 pm Barb brings BIG bird - feeding
It appears Barb did not feed her chicks from 10 am til 7.45 pm today.
That is too long!
-
May 1 Temp 60s, rain chance
6 am Barb goes to pantry and bring food and feeds kids
- I am concerned the egg is not hatched, it was very alive yesterday
8 am Second feeding today
Nubo guards, stays inside nestbox watching Mom feed
11.30 am feed 2 chicks. Will that egg hatch? or is time past?
12 noon Barb went got food from pantry and fed chicks
1 pm feeding
5.15 pm Barb leaves, Nubo guards, runs along bridge - LOL! way cute! ❤️
Returns and feeds
-
May 2 Temp 60-85 PM Thunderstorms
3.45 am the fog is so dense it acts like IR! WOW!
Must some bright light(s) out there its reflecting.
5.50 am Barb hops off - downward, I bet her pantry is on a lower balcony
Brings up breakfast with Nubo watching
Barb laid 4 eggs and discarded one a couple weeks ago.
2 chicks hatched, the 3rd egg doesnt look like it will.
This bird came in 2015 and ALL her eggs have always hatched.
This leads me to believe Boh was sick for awhile.
This new Boh I call Nubo this year is strongly paired with Barb.
He is hilarious and I enjoy watching him.
Together they have routed intruders.
Nubo is good with the chicks.
-
Thanks for the updates, shep. I have been following your posts and also peeping in on the pair.
-
May 2 Temp 60-85 PM Thunderstorms
8.45 am BAD WEATHER threatens
Nubo tried to give her a snack before the storm. He is a wise old bird!
Chickie accepts Nubo as Daddy

May 2
8.45 am BAD WEATHER threatens
noon Barb took a break, returned panting hard - I think pebbles are HOT, poor girl
12.40 Nubo came to guard - first the ledge - then inside nest, peeping to the kids
He kissed chicks - tried to move one under him outta the hot sun
he kept touching it to encourage it to the direction he wanted it to go
he even rolled the egg and stood over it - peeping all the time
WHATA GUY!
1 pm Mom is back and looks like she is scolding - yapping away
tries to gather egg and 2 kids under her in shade
She better not scold Nubo!
2 pm Barb leaves, Nubo comes to ledge to guard
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
May 2 Temp 60-85 PM Thunderstorms
The sky looked threatening and dark all day, but I dont see rain on our falcons
2 pm Barb leaves, Nubo comes to ledge to guard
2.30 Barb returns, Nubo stays, keeps peeping - AND KIDS GO TOWARD HIM! :o
3.30 Mom's gone, Nubo guards - what a beautifiul falcon
she came back
4.30 shes away again - and back
5.50 shes away agin
6 pm feeding
6.20 pm Very odd interaction. Nubo was in nest with chicks when Barb appeared in doorway.
- He appeared to challenge her! She went to chicks and he stood as if scolding her.
Its as tho Nubo is more nurturing than Mom! ???
EXPLAIN THIS!
-

? INTRUDER?
2 pm about - Nubo comes to bridge, Barb goes to him, both bow and chatter
- Barb looks upset
Barb is gone around half hour - Dad keeps checking, guarding, leaving, returning
2.30 both show up with dinner, Mom feeds kids
- I suspect Dad would have fed the kids if Barb had not showed up
2.45 Mom with chicks peacefully, Dad eating on the bridge
? I wonder if Barb is mourning that she lost half her eggs?

Barb returned, fed kids, left again but came right back

Last pic I have of Boh
Birds DO grieve.
Barb lost her mate and 2 of her 4 children.
Since her first year here, ALL Barbs eggs have hatched.
This year half her offspring didnt hatch.
Its not absurd she's been depressed, now she's sleeking out.
The new Boh has proved a wonderful mate, guardian and Daddy.
I wont insult him by calling him step-Dad.
Now I wish she'd remove the last egg.
Chesapeak always calls the pair Boh and Barb.
I dont like that at all. I refuse to call this male just Boh this year.
I will next year. The sire of the eggs deserves that honor.
I dont write as a biologist, but as an observer of Nature.
I've watched many cams many years.
I'm not an idiot just because I cant tell the male from the female.

I have seen one of the youngsters up on the bridge, but not both.
He'd been flying pretty good, aggressive.
I have seen one of them perch in the doorway looking out.
Evidently one of them fludged - cuz here's a cam note
Thank you for a successful rescue operation today!
CamOp Pan Mod - From Chesapeake Conservancy FB page
One of the eyasses wound up on their ground level. With guidance from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a plan was hatched to rescue the eyas. Our former employee Patrick Smith came over to lend a hand. The eyas does not appear to be injured. USFWS will examine the eyas, hopefully band it, and it should be returned to the scrape tomorrow.

February 17, 2020
About dawn Barb stood awhile in front of that old egg, peeped a few times, as if saying goodbye, or deciding, then left.
In 2019 she laid her usual 4 eggs, 2 never hatched.
Her first mate vanished, and a new male appeared.
One of the 'dead' eggs she removed from the nest,
the other she rolled under the shade.
She fledged 2 in 2019
I wish the biologist had removed the egg and examined it.

NEW FEMALE
Jan 1, 2021
People posting on Explore say this is a new female.
2015 this Barb arrived and had a VERY nasty fight with the former Barb and won the nest. I wonder if she fought with this new fem.
RRP my notes
Barb is a great mom
Barb is from Philadelphia, PA 2013 hatch
Barb band (horizontal) b/g 09/AR * Bo not banded
2015 Laid 3 eggs April, fledged 3 - Barb's first breeding year. We called her crazy girl.
2016 Egg 1 laid March 16
2017 Egg 1 laid March 12
2018 Egg 1 laid March 19
2019 Barb laid 4 eggs, only fledged 2

Mar 15, 2021 Ruh, roh. I don't want anymore drama in this nest. I think it is Barb3 in the nest under the ledge when Boh2 flies to the ledge just outside the doorway. Suddenly another peregrine flies by, and they both take off

April 30, 2021
At dawn Bo brot Barb prey but it was too dark to see if she fed chicks.
Pictured is Bo bringing prey later.
Barb ate for awhile - kids screamed for food
So far I have not SEEN her feed them.
She stands between cam and kids
She may feed them and I cant see
Egg 3 may hatch, dont think 4th will
This pair do not seem bonded, meaning both have a lot to learn.
I know its a new Barb - it may be a new Boh too
noon - Mom with 2 kids tucked under
1 pm I caught Dad and Mom with kids - with prey

SKY DANCER
June 4, 2021
11.30 am June 3 one mounted the bridge and danced his heart out up there! I wanted to SEE it myself but didnt. I am watching too many cams! I rewound, one may have spent the night on the other side of bridge. There is a ledge there kids sometimes sleep on.
Other years the chicks scare us by laying out of sight on the other sisde of the bridge. A couple juvies have landed on a balcony below and been fine, returned to the nest. Clearly one can fly enuf to save its life - after all -

Then jumped back down into nest.

Falcon update
June 17, 2021 From Facebook
A few days ago, a building tenant observed one of the eyasses from her office window and sensed things were amiss with one of the wings. The eyas had a meal (we suspect one of the parents brought it) and was otherwise looking stable. Wildlife Service and building management were contacted and a rescue mission ensued. However, skyscraper rescues are tricky! (call 82nd Airborn!)
This morning, the eyas was located on the ground and safely captured by the building manager. Other than the suspected wing injury, the eyas is doing well, waiting safely inside (in a laundry basket on the other side of the window of its scrape) for a visit to the The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore where further care and evaluation will be provided. Chesapeake Conservancy thanks everyone involved for caring for this baby falcon!
The USFWS raptor biologist added, "Although this youngster had the misfortune of veering into a window (collision, most likely) he exhibited awesome might and attitude! A few days ago, while assessing his wing injury and physical appearance from inside an office room window of the 24th floor, he appeared in good spirits since he had received a food delivery from a parent falcon earlier. More surprisingly, on a balcony ledge of the 24th floor high above city dwellers of downtown Baltimore, the ever-abundant cicada presented themselves as food to an eager little falcon. He watched with anticipation as several groups began hitting the window and flailing at his feet. Within minutes he had consumed four protein treats!"

Sad news to share from the peregrine falcon nest. We've been informed that one of the Falcon eyasses was found deceased on a building rooftop nearby. As of now, we have no explanation as to why the bird passed away.

Dad is a Watchman - even when baby sitting.

There is a ledge thru that doorway where the young falcons go out and nap out of cam view around the outside. Its not a dropoff.

One juvie here is wingercising like crazy. He has been on the large beam for quite a while, running back and forth while flapping his wings. He only stopped briefly when a sibling came walking into cam view from the left…The beam walker stared at its sibling for a few seconds, and then continued on his way running and flapping… He even got a bit of lift a couple times- he almost has it figured out…
