YAY KB  Now you need to take Nellie out for some good ol' 4 wheeling to stretch her legs.   :-*     ;)

We have a pretty significant wildfire (for here in NJ anyway) that broke out Yesterday.

It's well south of us down by the Jersey Shore and the Pine Barrens, but it's near a populated area not in the heart of the Barrens like they usually are.
It is very near my friends house in Ocean Twp, NJ and he said it was a scary night last night. He said the smoke and traffic in the area are a nightmare today.   :(

Last stats I saw was it was at 11,500 acres and 30% contained with thankfully no injuries as of this writing.
On average NJ has about 7,000 acres that burn annually, so this is a big one for this state.    :o

Area of the Jones Rd Fire: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jKevarCqoA713sDx8

Yup, Chris will be taking her on the freeway soon....not off roading though, LOL

I read about those fires yesterday and surmised you were north of there. I heard the wind was terribly strong. I hope they contain it completely today or the next few days.

Still taping my living room in anticipation of the lighter green paint going on the walls this Friday

KAREN   Yes, they had to get down to the studs on many walls to dry it all out and prevent mold.  Fortunately all her appliances survived.  Kitchen had tile flooring ( that looked like wood) and survived but all the hard wood has to be redone.

CLYNN  Wonderfully colorful opening this AM  ;D  It helps with such a gloomy day here today.  That was a fascinating story about the 3 sunken gaters.  So much we don't know . :o   WOW  Before I read the article I thought it WAS snow  LOL  What a phenomena.

PHYL   Glad your  household is coming around.  My hummer feeder goes out on May 1.  ;D

LISA   Pretty AM pic  :)

LANI   Good Royals report.

KB   Good day for Nellie  ;D

BL   Pray for no wind and quick containment.

TIG   YAY on the claim being accepted.  Can't wait to hear what the problem was.

My friend Timmy, his family and whole neighborhood were put under mandatory evacuation orders late yesterday afternoon.

Mom, Dad, 2 young kids, 1 cat, 1 dog spent the night on cots at a local High School.
Fun night was had by all - not !   :(

The evacuation orders have been lifted there now and they can return home, but the electricity to the whole area has been turned off as a precaution and the smoke in the area is "unbearable" he said.
And he's a fellow former Smoke Eater like me so when he said that I went oh' my.   ::)
They're all heading north to stay at a family members home until things simmer down.
There house is totally cool he said.

He and I have both fought wildfires in the NJ Pine Barrens in years past.
The conditions for fighting wildfires in that area can be notoriously sketchy, so much so that special training is required to even fight wildfires there.
The terrain is basically flat but the "soil" is sand/sandy and it's really easy to get vehicles stuck in it if you need to make a fast exit.
The pines and their forest floor duff once lit take off like a bat out of hell wall of fire in high winds and high winds are very common there being so near the ocean.
Some common ignition sources there are dry lightning, Philly to shore point Trains, camper chains sparking on the G.S.P. and of course at #1 human IDIOTS.  ::)

~ The weather conditions in the fire zone are not great, but not that bad either. ~

As of 4:00 pm EDT:

The chance of any rain in that area are not real great in the next 7 days
Maybe 1/4" in the next 7 day forecast. Image attached below.

The temps are about 70° F

The Relative humidity is about 34 %

Winds are currently gusting 9 to 10 mph from the SSE.
An onshore wind.

That's good as that is pushing the fire inland away from populated areas and the Garden State Parkway and back into the already burned areas of the Pine Barrens.

The bummer for that area of NJ are the persistent drought conditions as in many areas of the US.   :(

Some tin hatted gentleman up in a fire tower like a light house never lost.

My Uncle George comes to mind. Happily walked to work every day.

My most treasured possession is his official original issue USFS head shed.

It's got more hail stone and other dings in it than you can shake a mountain goats tail at.

There are four scorched shadowed pin holes in it.

4 Human Lightning strikes.

Were talking Marmots like beef jerky on the ridge_zap_ blown off the walk in one time with 24 hours of scrambled eggs.

Passed away sipping whiskey on HIS front porch at 95 looking right at it.   :)

BL   Major news story tonight were the fires.  Hope Timmy and family can keep physically healthy respiratory-wise and return when all clear and electricity is back on.  Prayers for the whole area involved. :(

Hello Beakers

KB - glad to hear that Nellie is back on the road, running like a new car. ;)

Tig - good to hear that the company has approved your claim on the love seat.

BL - I saw the wild fire news this morning - I see it is 50% contained at 7pm EDT - also saw a news piece on a chain of fires caused by a malfunctioning train the day before near Albion NJ.

Clynn - definitely a LOT of water in southern Ill. - now take a week to recover from the trip  ;) ;)

My Easter weekend was a bust - spent Thursday night in the bathroom and then slept thru Friday and Saturday and spent Sunday in recovery mode at home, to make sure not spread anything to those at the Easter dinner.  Back to normal in time for work on Tues.

Some interesting videos tonight...

Kilauea had another episode on the 22nd - lasted 10 hours - but it was eventful...

Oldguy, I'm sorry you were so sick over the long Easter weekend. I hope you're feeling much better now.

BL, prayers for all in the path of, or affected by, the Jones Road Fire.

My LilSis has adopted a 5-month old kitten... a female tabby. Someone found it in their garage, and wasn't able to locate any owner, so they got it vet care and gave it a loving home till a forever home could be found. That's a done deal now!  :D  The kitten's caregivers had been calling her Honey (Clynn!), and Honey Bun. My LilSis may keep that name, or change it - undecided for now. A few pics are attached - click them to turn them upright and to enlarge.  :) :-*

Take care, ((Beakers)). Peace. SED.

Good Morning Beakers!

baz, Honey Bun looks just like Harley when he was a kitten! My Honey was Erin's cat, then when he and his girlfriend broke up we took her in. Both of my Siamese, Max & Emma had passed away in 2015 and we were without a cat a month... We got Harley at the rescue so Honey would have a playmate!

oldguy, glad to hear you are feeling better! Are you still playing cards on Saturday nights? Haven't heard you mention it recently!  Interesting, the cats and the earthquake! It didn't last long! thanks for the Clinchfield Railroad video, that would be a beautiful ride. Looks like they are rebuilding on the same ground. Was that a fish that kept appearing in the Kilauea video?

Lani, that video of Kilauea, it sure looks like land in another barren world instead of Hawaii! Wow! The Royal Cam chick is a traveler! I'm glad Mom & Dad have no trouble finding her! So the Juniper have finished their pollen stage?

BL, prayers for your friend and his family... and for a good, heavy rain.

tsk, we are to get thunderstorms this afternoon, I can't wait to get to the garden center and get some flowers planted. My hostas are all coming up like crazy and the Lily of the Vallys are almost ready to bloom. the crabapple tree is in full bloom! It's Spring!

Phyl, glad to hear that you and Jim are starting to feel better! Still sending prayers...

Lisa, one of my pictures was huge when I previewed earlier, so I highlighted all three, then cut and pasted them back in my post. It seemed to work...
