Good Morning Beakers

I was supposed to have a 9am doc appointment, but received an email saying the office was having a delayed opening for 10am, due to the snow last night.  I am all rescheduled for this Wednesday.

Phyl - Brrr on your temps this morning, but your morning pics make me think of sunny warm days to come.

tsk - Oh no, not only I am sure you are sick of it, but also that is frightening in the middle of the night!

Puff - I do that seat belt thingy when I am at the Wildlife Refuge.  I do the driving thru the refuge, while Jeff walks, but I also like to look out the windows with the binoculars or camera.  I cannot stand to listen to the seat belt constantly ding...ding...ding, so locking it in place keeps that from happening. Just be careful since you are not in a seat belt, hope you don't have to go too far!

clynn - Wow, the tree of life! Love your morning squirrel pic.

tig and kb - Stay safe, warm and inside!

Lani - That cake is a puzzle!  ;D  But, I loved the splashed looking artwork of it.

karen;D no Battle of the Beltway!

I wish I could find the post that I saw on FB yesterday, but it was from a wildlife rehab that rescued an injured eagle that had a beak problem and after they got it to the facility, the eagle laid an egg!

Found it....

Injured bald eagle thrilled rescue team with egg. Now South MS could get its own eagle cam By Martha Sanchez January 18, 2025 5:00 AM| A pair of bald eagles was spotted outside of the Sun Herald on Debuys Road in Gulfport on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Watch one of them take flight and fly away perching in a nearby tree. By Amanda McCoy The discovery thrilled Missy Dubuisson and her colleagues at Wild at Heart Rescue. A bald eagle delivered to them with injuries had suddenly laid an egg. “I never would’ve thought in a million years this would happen to us,” said Dubuisson, founder and director of the rescue in Jackson County. “It’s exciting and nerve-wracking.” The egg began a rush of excitement and caution that, Dubuisson joked, has everyone “walking on eggshells over here.” It is the first bald eagle egg they have ever been responsible for. Every next step is governed by federal authorities because bald eagles are protected by law. The eagle, named Orin, arrived Jan. 13 at Wild at Heart Rescue, which is state and federally permitted to possess and rehabilitate wildlife. Orin was found in Poplarville, where Dubuisson believes she may have been hit by a car. She had a painful beak fracture and a wing injury. Both were treated by a veterinarian, and Orin went to the rescue for rehabilitation. A bald eagle named Orin was delivered to Wild at Heart Rescue in Jackson County. Then she laid an egg. Wild at Heart Rescue She laid the egg on Wednesday. Laura Mioton, the caregiver for Orin and another eagle, saw the egg first and told Dubuisson. “It’s like a Christmas morning thing,” Dubuisson said. Eagles usually lay eggs from December to February. When one mate commands the nest, the other searches for food. Orin may have seen some food, such as a rabbit, in the road when she got hurt. It is unclear where Orin’s mate is, but Dubuisson said he may still be in a nest, somewhere, waiting. There is no way for them to know. Orin and her egg are tightly protected, and no visitors are allowed for her safety. But Dubuisson plans to install a camera before the rescue puts Orin in her new enclosure in about a week. Dubuisson said the rescue will upload footage and updates to its Facebook page. Eventually, Dubuisson wants people to be able to tune in to a live camera. For now, Orin is calm. If she becomes restless, Dubuisson said the rescue will consult with federal authorities about how to protect the egg. The egg could hatch by mid-February. The rescue hopes to move Orin to a larger enclosure as she heals with her baby. A full release is a long way off. But one day, Dubuisson hopes to release Orin and the baby together. Now the rescue team is determined to keep Orin well-fed, warm, safe and calm. “Each day the egg is intact,” Dubuisson said, “it’s the greatest thing.” MS Martha Sanchez Sun Herald https://www.sunherald.com/news/local/counties/jackson-county/article298665658.html

Just talked to Pip and the morning low was 14°, but she got 5" of snow overnight N NJ.

She said .. "O' and BTW you suck for being in SoCal !"   :-*

I'm the designated snow removal machine I guess.   ::)

I surprised her and told her she can just hunker in as I've already contacted Bobby and he said he'd come over and dig you out.  :-* :-*

Thanks Lisa and Laurie for the news from wild heart rescue but I have questions I wonder where the daddy is and how he’s going to know the English and his babies are OK and what he’s doing. In the meantime I also wonder how they will teach these babies to flap around and fly off and know how to hunt when the time comes I’m assuming they have some kind of set up that we will see in the future but it is exciting news that  is  not something  that happens often. Thanks for the post.
Clynn, last night on the magnolia channel, I watched some folks trying to buy a house in Des Moines. They showed three homes and I fell asleep before deciding which one before they decided which  home  they wanted anyway, it was really a nice program and perhaps you’ve seen that  show or a    similar  one in the past! 0
I hope all keep warm in this extreme cold and I am sure that above average temperatures will return soon at least one can hope for  A little warm spell🙃BL, 🤡
I prefer  Spring!

Maybe there'll be a followup?  How to do you fix a damaged eagle's beak?  Avian Gorilla glue?
Long break, almost up the entire beak.

It's not hard....glue, surgical pins, etc. are options depending on the break.  It will grow back so not to worry.

Lori - Thanks for the NEFL update on their fluffball!  Also, thanks for the article.  I did not realize that rehab was in South Mississippi!

BL - Thank goodness for Bobby helping dig out Pip.

karen
- The article that Lori posted said, they will try to post updates on FB and also maybe a live cam on that eagle.  Hoping for the best outcome for eagle and egg!  I prefer Spring, too!  :D

Lani - Pretty morning flowers.

Puff - I am with kb on the eagle beak...glue maybe?  The beak is like our fingernail, made with keratin.

PHYL   Love the "best of" from Maculay library.  esp the babies next generation.  LOL

LISA   I have to remember that seat belt trick for things just like that.  We can do a drive through at some the large Gardens in our area with frequent pull overs.  Same if we ever get back to Door county with the same idea.    You're only going 10 mph through the Park
What an amazing story and experience for Wild at Heart rescue - Sure do wonder about the back story on that and where she came from. Keep us posted.  I see Lori has a back story.

LORI   Thanks for the news on NEFL and new little NE31   You provided the back story on Orin.  Feel bad for Daddy now waiting for Orin to come back  :'(   Love the dog with the red hat  LOL

KAREN   Cute Snoopy!

LANI   Love those snowdrops.  :)

some bounce

Camper had a long and early day... assisting his son getting his car serviced, then driving almost an hour to play board games with two grandsons. He will come home to the aroma of homemade oven-baked beef stew.

I wish I could watch Coco play tennis tonite, but the Notre Dame game is on the channel I can access. Go Irish! I'll see CoCo's highlights (hopefully) later.

Hugz all. It has been a long, cold day. I'm ready for dinner and a nap.
