Lisa, when the pasture tree leafs out, it's going to be hard to see N6 or the eagles.

Cam ops found a Baltimore oriole nest hanging from the smaller Y branch below N1.  Looks like it's woven with kite string or string used for hay baling.

STL, thanks for the clarification on the lil nest.  I saw that when cam op was panning around.

We are sorry to report that N2B's Goose nest has failed. Eggs will not hatch now. Amy's Blog mentions it: https://www.raptorresource.org/2025/04/29/announcing-rrps-hatch-fundraiser/

Sadly Amy has announced that the goose eggs at N2B will not hatch this season and that the N2B Nest has "failed".    :(

Great blue herons perching in trees upstream from N1, early this morning.  I see 5!

The Fam of 5 taking a stroll this morning near Hatchery Drive, the BE pair perched on bluff perch, and a bit later, the female in N6 nest area, while male is on the right side with a fish.  Female is pealing for the fish, male hops to nest and lets her have the fish. Lots of sticks brought in this morning, while female sat on the branch to the right.

Fun to watch the new pair of BEs at N6.  Thanks for the pics, Lisa.

Also, from videos posted at the Decorah chat, one of the eagle pair is identified as HD.  And they appear to be building their own nest (N6) in that pasture tree.  Won't that be great?

No confirmation from RRP on that being HD, but I believe it is.  There was a close up from cam op not too long ago, and his dark tail markings and missing talon were seen.

It's encouraging to see the eagle pair working on N6!  It's within camera range, and would be just grand to have nesting eagles back near the hatchery.  Fingers crossed for HD and the new female.  Are we sure it's HD?  Any conclusive info about the eagle found dead nearby several weeks ago?

We picked up an eagle in distress near the hatchery yesterday. Unfortunately, she died not long after pickup. She tested   negative for HPAI/avian influenza, so the veterinarian we are working with will be conducting more tests. We saw HD today. The eagle we picked up yesterday may have been HM. We don't know whether they had eggs or young.

Lisa, STL
, It certainly seems from the wording that the Chat Mods are calling the N6 BE pair ~ HD and "female" ~

See image below.

I don't know if we should consider that as confirmation from RRP that the male is indeed HD and the female is a new female and that the female that they found on 03/30/25 injured and then later died near the hatchery was HM ??

HM2 and HD on N6  ?   ???    :-\

BL - I did see Amy mention this in the afternoon Tremp chat.  Someone had asked her about the eagle they picked up.

The eagle we picked up died. It had severe lead poisoning, rodenticide, and gout (!). Gout was a first for the veterinarian we worked with.

Amy also mentioned this...... HD (the male) is the same. We don't know if HM is the same.

Hmm, so I guess that means RRP doesn't know for sure if it was or wasn't HM they found.   ??

- or - what happened to HM - or - where she disappeared to - or - this is a new hatchery area female with HD - or -  ???

I added more below, but I guess they have not made the determination that the "female" is HM or not.

The names RRP assigns to eagles (and other birds) can be a tad confusing.

I wonder how expensive it would be to run DNA on the eagles.  They leave feathers on and under nests, and droppings, etc.  That way even when birds are not banded, it should be possible to identify them in special cirsumstances, such as what's happened  with HD and HM and that found eagle which died, and the pair now constructing N6.

It may remain a BE id nature mystery without a real close-up of the female I guess.

LisaG Ok I think I got it now.   8)

Thank you for clarifying all of that.  ;D

Without the female that is currently with HD going directly into the N1 nest and being caught on camera for a close up I guess it's going to be hard to determine exactly if it is still HM that is with HD building N6 - or - a New Female.

If you and all of the Pros from Dover cannot definitively ID the female from the 'long camera shots' of late compared to previous known pics of HM I sure as heck can't.   ;)

There was a close up yesterday of the female.  I personally do not think it looks like HM.  The eyes were a lil different than HM's.
