Newman perched at the nest box about 1:00 this afternoon, preening, stretching, bobbing.  A short while later, one was in the box and another flew in for some chattering. One hopped out and away, and a banded bird stayed for just a few moments before also flying away.  Could not read the band.

Meeting up inside the nest box seems to be a thing for Newman and Julie 53-W.  They did it again this morning about 10:00.  Vocalizations and dancing are involved, but not copulation that I saw on the rewind.

Newman was scratching at the gravel in the nest box this morning about 8:00. Spring house cleaning!

On YouTube I saw video posted from RosieanneB, then checked the rewind at the live feed, and there's ANOTHER female peregrine dancing with Newman this afternoon about 4:00.  The band number is 60-E, black over blue.  I tried the database lookup but didn't get any result.

Lisa 53-W is back on the scene with Newman today.  In the nest box for dancing together, on a branch, on the small and large feeding ledges.  I believe she caught a black bird to eat on the branch about 8:30, and I think Newman brought one as a gift on the ledge about 11:00. On rewind he is barely visible under an overhang as she eats.  At 1:00, she is still perching on the large feeding ledge.  And it's worth the wait to see a mating!

That is E/60 - you read the top/black part of the band first. :) This is one of Greg Septon's birds: https://midwestperegrine.umn.edu/?vw=search_results_details&id=9887.

That Newman! ::) ;D

Thanks, Amy, for the ID on peregrine E-60.  I had it right in the photo label, but not in my text.

Red-winged blackbirds are migrating back to the area, so prey is plentiful. The males return first.  And the females look totally different, with brown and white stripes all over, easily mistaken for a large sparrow.

The paper mill that Hope hatched at closed and was bought by a packaging company.

Nora, do you know if the location where Hope E-60 was hatched still has a peregrine nest?

Lisa  [for sure] and Newman [I think] had a noisy encounter in the nest box about 11:15 this morning.  He flew away, then she did after a while.  At 12:30 she was eating a RWBB on the large feeding ledge.  Don't know if she caught it or if Newman gifted.

I'm not sure.  I was making a quick check after looking at her info and ran across that, not sure on the peregrine box.  I look more.

Two were there this morning, one in the nest box and one outside and on cam.  Didn't get a chance to post any pictures before I had to head for town.
