Newman ever watching.  It's snowing there now (11:30 AM)

The young peregrine is a banded bird.  Black = V over Blue = something 9.  Perched on the large feeding ledge about 10:00 this morning, and for a while there was another bird, probably Newman, back under the ledge.  It's feet visible center left in one of the pics here.

IF that's V/89 if could be Poppy from High Bridge in St. Paul hatched 5/27/23.  Hard to tell the first number.  Maybe we'll see it again.

Nora, so this V-?9 is a male??  The plot thickens.  I couldn't get a clear view of the banding numbers at the time of perching on the camera housing just moments ago.  Maybe the watchers at Explore will have better luck.

Whoops, made another try and got a good clear number.  It is V-89.  So, it's Poppy, as you suspected.   And Newman is the bird divebombing to drive Poppy away.

Thanks!  Poppy was considered female when banded....if that's right she's only going to be a year old!  Maybe that's why?

Didnt Newman mate with a 1 year old a couple years ago?  or was she 2 ?

Zooey was pretty young.  Two years maybe?  I'd have to look.

Zooey was two years old, and at GSB with Newman 2021 and 2022.

That extra year may have helped with Zooey.

Newman took breakfast for himself to the ledge and ate before just perching for a bit there.


When he went to the nest box he went in and Poppy showed up.  He finally got her enticed in and then he skedaddled after she bowed to him.
