Caveat about clynn's leaves -- Don't ever plant a Ginko tree.  Leaves are an interesting fans (?) But the mature tree's berries are horrid.   :o

P

Our city and community is promoting Ginko trees...The Male Ginko does not produce berries and that's what they are planting.

Duh!...morning all

I knew about the male/female problem when I planted mine.  Nursery said I had the male - wrong!!  I dug it out, threw it away.

Not sure if you're familiar with Oak Park kb, west of Chgo, but if you drive down "streets lined with ginko" you see breaks in the lines.  Not only do the berrries smell and get stepped on they also fall/drop on the streets where the traffic can crunch them and splash/stick on the car that drive through them.

There's also a big planting of them in Lincoln Park areas.  I first learned about them maybe at 13 - science teacher had us put together a collection of trees/leaves.  Mrs. Spurlock - made an impression, I guess.

some bounce

We need to finish clearing the day lily refuse (that I started pulling yesterday) before the rain comes this afternoon; and drain the garden hose. The temps. will go back down to "normal" tomorrow. GRR

Happy Birthday Jeff!!

Oh! And, good news, for now! Our street lights are back on... after being off for 3 years! Talons crossed the monsters leave them alone for a while. https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/public-works/street-lighting

OMG! What just happened?!?!?  ??? I just hit some key that did the weirdest thing, and the worst of it is ALL my browser windows went POOF! and shut down! I work in Incognito Mode, so they weren't recoverable. Ugh. So I lost the long post I was in the middle of! Grrr.  :P

So, I'm not going to re-create my post. But, I will post this link to a GREAT page of Q&A about Ginkgo trees from the Univ. of Va. There's some incredible and WOW! "I didn't know that!" info in it. Some of it is quite amazing!! I particularly thought so about the history of the Ginkgo Tree! Who knew?!? LOL, I didn't!  ;D

You know what we like to say around here... Learn something new every day in The Beak!  :D

Carry on, Beakers.  ;) :D

no bounce

I finished clearing the day lilies ... it took 2.5 hours. I did some other outdoor tasks. While resting, I saw a vole traveling in tunnels between various portions of the back yard. Little *&^^8#@6!!
Camper helped with bagging and then took them to the yard waste site. He texted a pic of the long line of cars waiting to get in! I'm back inside with hot chocolate. This acclimation stuff is for the birds! The only good thing is it keeps the riff raff out. Well, most of it.  8)

BAZI    Cool cake for Jeff  ;D    Didn't notice the one eared pup!!   Gosh, if you only knew what key you hit that did that !!  Wow
thought this was particularly interesting from that gingko article

"Butyric acid is a viscous, colorless substance that occurs naturally in butter, human sweat, vomit… and ginkgo fruit! Commercially, butyric acid is sometimes used as an odiferous additive in fishing bait and stink bombs. Some scientists suspect that Eau de ginkgo may have attracted ancient seed dispersers, encouraging dinosaurs or early mammals to eat ginkgo fruit and “distribute” the seeds far from the parent trees."

PHYL   Cute poem  ;D   Froggy AM on the flyway  ;) ;)   365  yes a real treat  :o :o

LISA   WOW  the big 60 .  Bet he doesn't feel a day over 59!

PUFF   All you would need is to bring that stepped in ginko berries into the house.  :o :o

TIG   Long time to be without street lights  ::)

LANI    Can appreciate all the time it takes to prepare for a fundraiser.   See you later.   Cute little beagle  :)

Black Forest Cupcakes – Fresh black cherries are roasted in amaretto "flavoring" and stuffed into a chocolate cupcake. The cupcake is then topped with fresh whipped cream and a chocolate-dipped cherry.

Happy Birthday Jeff!
