Good afternoon!  Humid!   Saw the tropical rain forecast for the east coast earlier.   If it develops Baz you will get rain!    Not sure about tge winds but I think Lisa will have to watch our for this event as well!
Lisa, I am jealous of the eating you and Jeff had and will enjoy with the crab cakes!    Went to a rustic place on a river in Maryland a few times and by picking crabs learned why they are so pricey!   What a job!   This place had picnic style tables they covered with newspaper or other paper and then dumped crabs on top.  Gave you hammers, picks, and crackers to  dig out the succulent meat!   So good.   Your choice of adult beverages, soda, coleslaw, corn  or what ever, if you wanted!    Have you had the marinated claws in Mobike?  Totally different thing.
Back is not better.  Will have to get shots if tgere is no improvement!
Tsk, wheredo Tom and Tim stay?  Sounds like they are cooking!  Safe travels and a fun trip.

SKOL Vikings!....up 10 to 0 against the 49ers.....Jefferson just ran a 97 yard touch down :)

With both the Jets and Giants playing 1 o'clock games we have a massive area wide Cable TV only outage here (Optimum -or- today Optimin).    ::) ::)   ???    >:( >:(

I very rarely sit at home and watch football on a beautiful Sunday, but I'm still R&Ring from my R&R.   ;)

The cable company now has a new outage map like our power company has, which I didn't even know about until today.
It doesn't discern what is out - phone, cable, internet - it just shows a lot of OUT in the Tri-State area.
The die hard football fans around here are probably going ballistic.   LOL

The weather is perfect here so it's not that and the outage on the map is so widespread it's not a bonehead that hit a local telephone pole .. our home phone and internet are working just fine and certain channels above a certain # are working .. very weird.   :-\

In case you don't know some other way: Giants lost 18 to 21, and Jets won 24 to 17

Vikings beat the 49ers 23 to 17

We have an outage map here from comast our internet provider too....

Hope things improve soon for ya...

Lani, yes I just want to cry for the people and their homes and places of work after I saw what happened this week in LaPlace and Reserve, LA, and other places, from Hurricane Francine. Just an awful calamity for those communities! So many of the people there were just really getting back on their feet and in repaired/rebuilt homes and businesses after the devastating Hurricane Ida ruined it all just 3 years ago... it takes many years to come back from that kind of damage, and some people never do. I think many people who have never been in areas that have had to deal with that kind of flooding and damage don't really know how long it takes to get back to normal - it always takes years, and some people never get back to their pre-storm flooding and damage normal life. I'm glad Mike's plant is back running again, and those employees can work and earn income while trying to make their homes livable again, hopefully.  :(  Prayers for all affected by the storms and damages.

Two hurricanes caused devastation in same areas, 3 years apart...

Hurricane Ida, 3 years ago:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Ida#:~:text=and%20New%20York.-,Louisiana,LaPlace%2C%20Lockport%20and%20Grand%20Isle.

Hurricane Francine, this week:

I agree completely with your quote above Baziunc.
These tropical systems if they affect ones area directly or indirectly can really upend peoples lives for years.
It is a very long hard road to 'full' recovery sometimes.

BUT and a big but here - loss of property and possessions can be dealt with eventually.

Lives lost not so much.

My point is a tropical weather event is usually forecast pretty well in advance as apposed to a 'rapid spin up weather event'.

Meaning you can usually take some precautions beforehand to mitigate really bad outcomes from topical systems.

A) Educate yourself on tropical storms and the NHC products.
B) The correct Insurance for your location and situation.
I know it's expensive but you're you know what with out it from the get go if one of these systems creeps into your wheelhouse.
C) Know the vulnerability/s at your location to direct and indirect impacts from a tropical system inland or at the coast.

Simple things like common sense go a long way towards saving lives.

It ain't like the good old days of weather via ham radio.

My list of common sense survival shit is way to long to post here hence I'm still posting here.

Bloody beautiful this 9/15 evening at sunset here really. Truly.
Temp 68° F
Perfect dew point.

No bugs but there is a riot of chirpy chippy Eastern Flying Squirrels bouncing off the Oak and Tulip trees.

Baz I know not so much for you and Zippo.
It's just going to be a piss aunt as my NC guru would say.

# ONE have an up to date 'bug out bag' with all the really important stuff ready to go always no matter where you live in our great country the United States of America.

Evacuate when told to by so by your local authorities. If you have not
Hide from the wind.
Run away from the water.
Turn around don't drown.  Yada Yada Yada  ..  unheeded by way to many dead people.

So so many lives lost drowning - storm surge - playing in the RED FLAG surf - inland flooding - turn around don't DROWN.

Way way to many so so sad

Pip and I have both been through our fair share of "Tropical Stuff" in the CONUS over the years and that is why we.
Always keep an eye on the tropics especially at this time of year here in the NE.
We certainly don't focus on the track line or the cone even.
I don't pay much attention to a storms Hurricane Category or "Storm Type" either as I've seen wicked weather and it's devastating affects happen well away from all of them.

Hurricane Ida 2021 a now retired name.

A Cat 4 at landfall 30 lives lost in Louisiana.

A something unnamed weather event "remnant" lost 32 lives here in New Jersey.

I have never ever seen rain fall like that before and I have seen me some sideways buckets of.

LOL

A sugar glider just snagged a piece of Graham Cracker off of Pip's shoulder.

Her jaw dropped look of glee was so priceless as was mine

Karen we have a healthy balance of flying squirrels and bats here as we have carefully steered.

Our trees are paramount. An oak to cracker to Tulip to Maples

I have just never seen that before  .. eye on

Kb, Congrats! good game!  8)

{{{Tsk}}} I hope you enjoyed some TLC time while Tim is gone. Be good to yourself, especially your back... take care  :-*

BL, thanks for sharing your information, your wise thoughts and map. Interesting seeing where Mike's plant is located between the storms.

Baz, Thanks for the links and understanding of what it is like for LaPlace and surrounding parish. Some residents have not yet recovered from Hurricane Ida. But, they continue to live and survive, Mike says they are good hearted and hard working people....   what a football game today! Though, a win is a win for KC Chiefs! But Whew!!! .. oh no, another storm.  :( {{{You and Zippo}}} take care.  :-*

Tig, I haven't heard the words "Gitche Gumee" since I was a little kid listening to a Bugs Bunny cartoon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRlLYEkJZM0
Now I know the meaning...  https://www.lakebeyond.com/why-is-lake-superior-called-gitche-gumee/ ... it must be stunning tonight.  :)

Good night Beakers!

9/15 Today Sum-eh is 95 days old and Antali is 90. It is the first day we haven't seen a fish delivered since 4/29 when Finnegan brought the first fish to Iris. ❤️
Antali was last seen on the nest at 11:07am looking for possible scraps of fish, and Iris did her quick visit early this morning.  :-*
All is quiet on the nest there is no Antali keeping watch and no osprey flying in the beautiful sunset skies tonight!

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, so I wonder if Iris and Antali have headed south for good, I just checked the nest and no one is home. I think if Antali were still here he would be on the perch... My heart goes out to those who have to get their lives back together after a disaster. Seems like so many disasters lately... We need all the water deluging the south to be sent to the fires in the west... If only it could work that way.

baz, thanks for the additional bird migration info!

tsk, sounds like you are all set to relax this week!

tig, I remember another little poem I memorized back in school for some reason. It's not the long poem 'The Song of Hiawatha' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, but a small portion of it, re-worded a bit.

By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,
Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water,
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.

Moab, Utah - Journey along the scenic byways of Moab, Utah, where the Colorado River carves its path alongside towering red rock cliffs. This captivating landscape offers a stunning contrast between the vivid turquoise waters and the deep, iron-rich hues of the canyon walls.

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown
