My Bro came by today and we watched a recording of a choral performance based on the Christmas truce in 1914. He agreed to take a large box of Mom's Christmas decorations of my hands too.
Camper and I saw The Boys in the Boat today. It was good. A bald eagle overflew our car on the way there... at about 40 feet up.

Good Morning Beakers!

      

E4E, we are supposed to get 1-3" more snow this afternoon but I will not miss my appointment at 10:00 this time! I just can't believe that it snows every time I have the appointment at the eye doctor! Tuesday, blizzard. rescheduled to Friday, Friday, blizzard, rescheduled to today, and just a bit of snow today! And the clinic is 1.3 miles from our house!  Hope your tests come back with nothing out of order!

Lani, sweet picture of the tiny baby albatross almost out of the shell... Those rangers take such good care of those Albies. Bless them. I also worried about the baby thrown in the snow, but I am guessing it was a doll. No sane person would ever do that, Child Services would be on them like you know what. Love the cat watching the snow good night pic.

oldguy, beautiful picture of the snow laden tree. We had several pine branches break with the first blizzard, finally got someone to come and get them off the fence for now. Our insurance company cancelled us for the hail claims on the house and cars, don't need to have to file a claim on the fence so early with the new company! Good video of Claire and all the cats!

tsk, I have read that the '67 blizzard was the worst in Chicago history!  I looked up Des Moines' worst, it was Jan 1, 1942 with 19.8" of snow. Here is an interesting article of the worst blizzards in American History:  https://www.treehugger.com/worst-blizzards-in-american-history-1140776

tig - Did you happen to read "Boys in the Boat" before you saw the movie?
I did maybe 10 years ago and then saw the movie.
For me, the book was so much better...a great read if you haven't.

Reminded me too of I think tsk's recommendation of reading The Children's Blizzard.
Fabulous read as well...Dakota, and MN deaths due to the blizzard of 1888. Informative as well about weather predicting errors of the time.

When we were little kids and my Cousins lived in Buffalo, NY my parents and us 3 boys drove up there for the long Thankgiving "weekend" and a huge lake affect blizzard hit my Aunt & Uncles area the day after we arrived.

It was like 40+ inches of powder snow with drifts on the upwind side of of the house above the 1st floor of the 2 story house.

Most of the kids (some very young) were jumping out of the 2nd story windows into the snow below by day 3 of the storm.
The parents were down below to assist if anyone needed assistance getting out of the snow .. none of the kids did.

My Mother who was deathly afraid of heights even jumped out of the window to the great delight of the throng of spectators (all now stranded in Buffalo and probably a little juiced up) down below.

No one got hurt except maybe some cold fingers and toes. It was an absolute blast and I still remember to this day like it was yesterday my Mom taking the snow plunge.   

After about day 6 or 7 my poor Aunt & Uncle were able to stop "entertaining" the masses as the roads had finally been cleared enough to return to their respective homes. As they waved goodbye to all I'm sure it was with great love but yet great relief. Besides I thing Uncle Jack's booze supply had been decimated by that point.

Yes, BL. I don't think that video was meant to be taken seriously, either. There are so many "When children are given to the Dad" videos that are very funny...this may have been one of them.

Furthermore, I do believe that Dads are needed for children. Who could disagree with that but I mean sometimes women can be overly cautious and Dad's in life sometimes provide the other side. This is what those funny videos imho are meant to show.

I also don't think that baby, real or not? was injured...just funny.

If it was a real kid .. and I don't know ..

1) I'm sure he was plucked out of that powder immediately and his Rosie little cheeks dried and warmed right away and brought right back inside.
Dad's in a short sleeve shirt after all.
2) In that huge puffy Panda one piece snow suit he was probably hot and well cushioned.
3) I don't see how the kid could get hurt essentially falling into air.

I watched other videos from that guy and his little boy and Dad looks like a very loving and doting Father.   
I don't think he would risk hurting his child for anything. His Mom was probably the one taking the video.

Dad's are just big kids and kids are .. well kids and they need to be kids when they are kids.
Call the police, lawyers, CPS and doctors .. yeah I don't think so.      

Was it the smartest thing in the world to do probably not.
Would I do that with my kid heck no. 
But then again I've been buried in an avalanche and know 1st hand the feeling of confinement in the concrete of an avalanche .. this was air powder however.   

When kids are old enough to do so and want to do so .. jump out of second story windows into air .. and the conditions below are deemed by the adults below supervising to be safe to do so .. I say go for it MOM.   

I'll let it go now .. as they say - Men are from Mars & Women are from Venus.
