On the ground, 5 of the goslings gathered around the parents quickly.  The parents searched for the 6th, and people on the ground also, but it is still missing as of posting time at 10:45AM.  Searching indicates that geese know how many goslings should be there!

Another goose came to the nest, perhaps more eggs again??

There is a lot of loud goose honking on the live nest cam right now. I'm wondering if that is due to any RRP helpers in the area searching for #6, or if it's just the normal goose honking for communicating to and for the newly-jumped goaslings and such. I wish we knew if anyone is still out there actively searching for #6, or if their search is done and they've left the nest/jump area.

No one was around them when I saw them, but there were quite a few geese around and the usual honking all over the hatchery.  :)

Holy Cow!  Go run errands for a couple hours and look what happens!  Another whole new goose and an egg at N1, almost before the place cooled off from the family of 6 goslings.  Well, how many will this goose lay, and is there a gander in the area?   Watch and learn.

The cam ops have a great chance to find views of the new eagle nest in the pasture tree.  N6 is the label, and it's going to be interesting to see what happens there, too.  Will HM and HD lay eggs this late in the season?  As the tree leafs out, the nest will be harder to see in detail, but it's great to have eagles nearby again.  Hope the goose commotion doesn't scare them away.

Still lots of geese honking at 3:00 this afternoon.

The goose laid several eggs at once!   Has anyone found little six?

Sadly,  RRP announced one of the goslings didn't survive the fall. I assume it was the last one to jump. 😥

Hmm .. A mg laid an egg (1?) in N1 about 2 1/2 hrs after N1MG, N1FG and the goslings left the N1 nest ? !  :o
Talk about not even waiting for the down to cool down.   :D
They call it hot racking in the military.   ;D
So what do we call this one .. N1MG02  ?

Ground predator free goose nesting locations around the hatchery area must be at a premium.
That's why I'm thinking the wise older geese round here probably choose abandoned bald eagle nests up high nowadays.

6 eggs on a ground nest every year _ almost every year a land critter takes 2 or 3 eggs _ off camera.
6 eggs on a high nest every year _ six jump _ five goslings swim downstream with mom eating duckweed with her_ on Camera.

Simple species survival math.

Around 5 pm nest time the N1 camera was looking down on the old RxR bridge foundation and showed another MG (RRMG) lay an egg right on top of it.
The old RxR bridge foundation is below the N1 nest slightly to the west & upstream.

"Will HM and HD lay eggs this late in the season?" When I lived north of the Twin Cities in MN a close friend had an eagle nest for years right by their house in the yard.  It was a wet spring and the nest fell and both little eaglets were killed.  They spent the summer and fall building a new nest in a big old cottonwood across the yard and the next spring raised little ones.

I watched as the gosling jumped from the nest and saw the last one trying to follow the others but then coming back into the nest. The others went down what appeared to be a hole in the side of the nest. The last one tried several times, then went down the opposite side. I wonder if one of the babies got caught in the hole and the 6th found the hole blocked. Just conjecture of course. But maybe the lost gosling is #5 to try to make the leap instead of #6. Or has the body of #6 been found?

Per RRP's Facebook posting yesterday....

Raptor Resource Project

What are we looking forward to this week? It's been a busy morning and it's going to be a busy week!

The goslings at N1  jumped this morning between 8:02 and 8:04 AM CDT. Five of the six made it, but one did not. MG and PG have herded their five surviving offspring downstream to deeper, more sheltered water. Perhaps we'll see them from the N2B cam, where goslings should start hatch on or around April 20. It took just a few hours for another goose to come in and lay an egg at N1, so don't be surprised if you see more geese, eggs, and goslings in this nest. The goslings at N2B should hatch on or around April 20.

**I am guessing that if they know that one did not make it, that they found it below.

At N2B, four eggs with hatch expected April 20.  This morning around 10:00, the female (N2BMG) lifted up and gave the cam ops (DGC pics) a great view of the eggs.  The gander (N2BFG) came in for a few minutes, too.  At this nest, the male hasn't spent much time.

HM & HD perching in the lower bluff tree, and not seen at the Pasture Tree where they are building N6.  Maybe later.

At N1, the second female laid one egg yesterday shortly after the other family made the Jump.  This morning, she has been sitting on the Y more than on the nest.  Several other geese are in the area, flying and feeding on the ground.  Honking, too. See Decorah pics.
