Yippee!  I was correct about a pip in the second egg yesterday.  The discarded eggshell shows the round hole in one of the pics below.

Happy Birthday DN18  ;D   ;D   ;D

Hurray for D18's hatch!!! :D Thanks very much for the vids and pics, Lori, Ginger, and STL! How precious they are, and DNN and Mr. North are amazing!

It's eggciting to see two eaglets at the North nest!!  DN17 has caught on to the feeding thing pretty well.  Still waiting for DN18 to connect with a nibble from DNF or MrN today.  The parents are sooooo careful and patient.

DNF hasn't gotten a bath yet, but she's actively feeding the hatchlings.  Now I cannot tell them apart, so don't know which is getting fed the most.  Lots of bonking this morning.  They will sort themselves out.  Pileated woodpeckers feeding nearby.

Am I correct that one baby hatched March 24 and the second March 25? I had thought that hatching so close in time there wouldn't be the bonking since they would be closer in size than when eaglets hatch 3 days apart. Got that one wrong obviously. :)

Acadia, I'm guessing that the bonking is just part of the hatchlings' behavior.  It might be partly lack of coordination along with some hierarchy setting.  There's sure to be  at least one blog from Amy about this topic.

They are getting plenty of fish today.

Acadia you are correct on the hatch dates.
Here's the nest record I have for DNN 2024 so far:

Thanks for the info, BL, and the sweet pics, STL. Have any of the North hatches have been this close together? Before we know it, they'll be climbing out of that deep bole!

Nanimal, you can check nest records on the Chat page by scrolling and finding the highlight dates for several years back.

Morning feed includes red meat, possibly squirrel. Protein power for the babies.  One-day difference will be difficult to tell them apart.

MrN brought a very large sucker fish about 9 AM. I believe they are spawning at this time, and fish eggs are great nourishment for the eaglets.

Thanks for recommending the Chat page for info, STL. The North's had three seasons with hatches on consecutive days: 2019 - 3/31 & 4/1, 2020 - 3/30-31, and 2022 3/27-28. And as always, thanks for the picture documentation here.

Lots of great info on the live stream - chat page, here for the Norths and at the other cam pages, too. Also a bunch of videos to watch.
Wonderful closeups of DN17 and DN18 at about 7:00 this morning, as DNF is feeding bits of whatever and changeover to MrN.  It was cold early today and the little ones were quick to burrow under his warm feathers.

Lotsa closeups of the DNs today.  Here are a couple more.  Eagles don't have an external ear, and as hatchlings the hole of the ear structure is visible.  Soon feathers will cover the opening.
