Linda, definitely a kestrel, such a beautiful small raptor.

The Norths visited the nest this morning before dawn.  Even did some aerating of nest material (no pic of this).  Then DNF got busy bringing large, rail-sized sticks and arranging them.  I love this activity!   ;D

She also did some calling from the nest and nearby perch.  And the cattle were grazing on the far side of the creek at about 11:30.

Morning seems a great time for working on the nest.  DNF brought several sticks, lost a long skinny one over the edge.  MrN brought a couple of small items, too.  Sooooo happy that they are accepting this new version of home!  John and Amy have the right design-build talents to get the Norths started again.

STLbf - TY for the photos of new nest interest and progression the Norths are showing us.  This is SO wonderful to see their rapid adaptation to another custom RRP design build.  Such teamwork between eagles and RRP nest builder pros!

Loved the video of the actual build.  I continue to be truly impressed by Amy's monkey skills in the tree; and I could see the fun, and skill, John was enjoying assisting with the mechanical bucket :)

So far it looks so good for the upcoming breeding season at the North site.  Yay!

MNLinda, yes, it's wonderful to see the "cooperation" between eagles and RRP builders!

This morning, DNF brought another long skinny stick, but she lost it over the edge while arranging.  They will have quite a stash on the ground under the nest.  I'm hoping they discover that easy source of sticks, and they might, because they explored the old nest on the ground after it fell not that long ago.

And, there's a new and very clear view of the Norths perching together about 9:00 this morning.  It's the Hideaway Tree branches with a corn field in the background "behind" the nest (to the west).  Ginger52 provided the ID info.

STL -- You made a good guess on where the Norths were perched.  It was on the Hideaway Branch behind the nest.  That's also where they were perched Friday night when a Barred Owl hit DNF.  Here's a video recorded by GABear:

Ginger, thanks for the branch ID from yesterday!  And those owl strikes in the dark must be really startling for the eagles.

The new view from nest towards creek provides a grand, clear picture.  This morning, it's a colorful sunrise.
And a red tailed hawk perching in a creek tree about 7:00.
On the Chat Room, there's a video of the Norths working together with a large stick this morning.  Here's an overhead pic, too, from about 7:30, and one  from a bit later.

Seems to be MrN's turn to be moving sticks at the nest early this morning.  Good video at the Chat Room for DNN.

One of the pics here shows the white feather blemish bump between MrN's right eye and beak.  It's the result of an injury from several years ago, and a good clue for identifying him.

DNF, who is much larger, has dark shadow feathering around both eyes and a dark "part" in the feathers on the back of her head.  No pic of her yet today, but scroll down under the live feed to see closeup head shots.

Overnight in the Love branches, then early morning nest work -- seems to be a pattern for the Norths.  DNF brought a tango stick about 10:00, worth watching on the rewind!

Closeups in next pic batch.

Great closeups of MrN for identification -- that blemish near his right eye.  Thanks to the cam ops!   :D

Bath time for the Norths this morning.  First, DNF consumed a fish at the end of the Spit.  Then MrN joined her for bathing. Both preening in the Claw Tree and later in the upper Love Branches.

Northern Cardinal feeding on red berries from bushes under the nest.

Recent addition of some grassy material at the nest; didn't see by whom or when.

The Norths seem to be away from the area this morning.  Smaller birds come out to forage when the coast is clear.  Female pileated woodpecker and Bluejay closeups in the Love Branches around 8:30.

3.45 am  earlier I heard an animal snort.
Later I heard coyote pack yowling - real close.

Other nights I hear the owl hooting.

Shep, this area is pretty active at night with lots to listen for.

MrN spent several early daylight hours perching in a tree between the BPT and the Spit Tree. Name of tree? See labeled pic.
DNF landed at the nest about 8:30 and called for him, but he didn't respond. She didn't bring anything, and flew away after a short visit.
MrN came to the nest with talons bare at about 10:15 and stayed for a short visit, then flew away.
Farm activity is slow on a Sunday.
