Beautiful Easter sunrise at DNN this morning. The eaglets are getting more mobile, and it was warm enough this afternoon for one of them to have a little snooze out from under a parent. Cam ops were kept busy with lots of feedings -- DNF brought an opossum at abut 3:00.

April 1 already. Spring seems to be here for real. Besides DNF and MrN on the nest, cam ops found a male pheasant displaying and crowing (or whatever their sound is called), and I think a female red winged blackbird (the streaky one), and a male cardinal (no pic).
Eaglet pics to follow later.

So back to winter today! Yuk
The eaglets got a look at the weather when DNF got up to shake off her icy, snowy feathers. These experienced parents will take good care of DN17 and DN18.

Still wintery weather at DNN. The eagles carry on, and the eaglets look to be thriving.

The eaglets are growing fast! New gray downy feathers visible, and they look more alert, and are beginning to rise up tall-ish.

I know I've missed a lot of time this week - But where's DN18?
P
My bad -- 18 has made its appearance - Time to get some breakfast for it and me.

Both of the eaglets are thriving, and I cannot tell them apart. They are growing and changing so fast, just amazing.
DNF brought in something that looks like maybe a stillborn calf or deer, about 8:30 this morning.

Morning brings bigger, grayer eaglets. They are moving their wings more today, too. Seems like a day or two ago that the wings were little straight flippers and now they have two or three joints. And their necks are like periscopes. Happy growing, y'all.

The eaglets can thermoregulate now, and be glad because it's really chilly, windy, and rainy this morning. They got pretty shivery a couple times when left uncovered. At noon, DNF was doing her mom-brella thing to keep them dry.

Two weeks old might be a little soon for DN17 to eat a fish fin (maybe a tail), but there was a good try about 5:00 PM. DNF is giving both eaglets fish bits with tiny bones and they gulp them down. Has anyone seen casting of a pellet yet?

MrN brought a coot early this morning, and DNF partially defeathered it while the eaglets watched. Then MrN brought a large fish and most of the coot feathers blew away from his wings. Apparently the fish flopped over the side of the nest, and DNF retrieved it. Fish for breakfast first, then maybe coot later.
