Well, I'm also getting close to the end.  Yesterday was the rough day - my poor old arthritic hands - made the traditional Italian fish salad.  (shrimp, lobster, clams, mussels, squid, whitefish, crab, calamari, pollock, soaking in lemon juice, garlic oil, clam juice, and for looking pretty sliced black olives, parsley, octopus).  The hard part that takes the longest and scrunches my hands is the crab, lobster, octopus which has to be broken into/opened up.  Lots of treatment today with warm water and ice filled dishcloths.  Note to self:  "New cracker and knife and scissors for next year."

Puff, wow!  All that yummy food you're making! I'm coming to your house!! I would kill for some of your Italian Seafood Salad!! You make it the same way as the italian Conch Salad I love so much, that I like to have along with a big plate of linguini with white (clear) clam sauce! Oh gawd... now I'm jonesing for it! And at least one glash of a nice Italian white wine to go with!  ;) :D  Hope your hands recover soon - please be careful. Hugs.  :-* Great stories of travels, cards, and such!  :)

baziunc we're out of EWR via ILM up to Puff's house oddly enough tonight .. we'll split the miles.

-edit to decode-   ;)
I was joking with Puff and Baziunc that Pip and I will be leaving Newark International Airport (EWR) with a layover at Baz's local airport, Wilmington International Airport (ILM) and heading to Puff's house (MDW) for her Italian Seafood Salad !   :) ;D

Truth be told I'm American mix:  German/Russian, Irish, Cherokee, oh yes and Italian.  Ton and his mom both 150% Italian.  Mom was the chef, worked a couple restaurante, part owned a couple, was frequently requested for cooking special to-dos.  Her fish recipe I was sworn not to talk about - don't want any secret visitors.   8)  So unlike Betty Crocket I won't be talking about that recipe.

But it is Goooooooood.  Two neighbors already came by when I told them the salad is ready.  Guests at neighbors' respective dinners tonight or tomorrow will not be offered any.  She did have a respected name/reputation.  Good thing is "Supreme" knew her and Ton, and me now.  (Supreme is main purveyor of fish products in greater Chgo.)

My main contribution to their enterprises was the Ricotta Cheese Cake.  Only 800 calories for what I would call a tiny piece.  Here's a cool idea - A ricotta cake with the pizza for ATF?

Happy Christmas Eve, Beakers!  :)

 ;) ;D

I walked 31 minutes today. It would've been a much longer walk, but I stopped several times to speak to neighbors, and give all the doggies along the way extra Christmas hugs!  :) :-* :-*  It was great big blue skies and 70 degrees!  My area is going to luck out as far as weather on Christmas Day goes... the rain isn't expected to start here till around dark on Christmas Night, then all day Tuesday, and thunderstorms Wednesday morning, but nothing severe here.

I hope all the Beakers stay safe, dry, and warm and snug over Christmas.
  :) :-*

tsk We (parents) lived on Keating, one block over from Cicero.  There were 4 main runways, two running NE to SW and two across in X pattern SE to NW.  These were the runways taken by commercial, larger equipment. There was a shorter runway across the field N to S. Then it basically had nothing for 8 (?) years.  They made all the options longer and brought in/back the busy.  It truly is a big airport now.  Terminals moved over to the east side of Cicero.

Times change - I remember when Midway was 1 mile square.  Outgrew its britches.  And then started  the growth of O'Hare.  My guess - ORD is close to 10 miles square.  BL do you know?

Puff here's a live camera feed from MDW.
https://streamtimelive.com/midway/

Looks mighty busy there this eve.
The camera is located just off the airport grounds exactly at the Red Pin on the Google Map.

We were crazy when there and young BL.  We like to scare ourselves by going up to the barrier fence (can you imagine a huge TWA Constellation coming down at you while you were looking through the wrong end of a set of binoculars?  My brothers threatened me that I couldn't go home until I did it.

Plus, imagine an ordinary chain link fence being the only thing midway between me and the  touchdown. Jeepers!  But my brothers loved me.   :P  And I knew they'd never go back home without me!

Stayed in the area when I married.  Moved to quiet, undeveloped Darien in '71.

You're memory is very correct Puff, MDW is still considered:

Midway International is known as the busiest square mile in aviation.   8)

O' Hare covers 11.25 sq miles.
