HM laid egg #1
Our Hatchery Miss is on her way to being a Hatchery Mom! We'll add videos as they are posted, but in the meantime...woo-hoo! It's been eleven years since eggs were laid in this nest.

An egg! How about that! Thanks to everyone for posting about it. Any idea of what babies will be called or is it too soon to decide?
I hope HD's foot gets better.

Hi Arcadia, good to see ya!

Not a clue as to what the babies will be called.  I think everyone is wondering that.  :)

Great pics Lisa!  It's so good to see how careful HD is being with the egg and his sore talon.  They both seem to know what to do, whether all by instinct or previous experience, we cannot know.  I did gasp when HM got up from the egg about 8:15 AM, looked like she stepped right on it.  Next time she stepped away from the egg. (see pic in next batch)

These are early morning pics.

HD should be very good at incubating. He has probably spent more hours sitting in the nest than HM.  ;)

HM's misstep and HD's brooding time.

Great pics, STL

I sure hope HM stepped lightly on the egg when she had her misstep.  It all looks intact, so hopefully it is ok.

Lisa, seems like the egg has not been damaged.  Ready for egg #2.   ;)

Boy oh boy, Trout Run is really rolling this morning!!!  I went to see where my volume barn was set and then looked at the creek.  Amazing amount of rain on both nests.  Going to be a chore for both pairs to protect those precious new egglets, especially after letting them maybe get too chilled already.

Rainy morning in Decorah - A wet HM on egg, HM foot rolls the egg, HM looking around may be in need of a break, and HD arrives for egg duty

Wet and cold on the N1 area this morning. Creek running high and fast from melting snow + rain.  The Hatchery pair are on shared brooding duty and that's a very good thing.
