I want what's best for HM and HD as they try to build their first nest. If they succeed, oh how I will miss them!

Forum member clynndunn posted this in the Beak Room this AM.

The photo and write up are from Sue and Benny Bruhling's visit to the Hatchery yesterday 11/02/2023.

Well, this is something!
Sue Bruhling - Above and Beyond the Live Cam...BREAKING NEWS IN DECORAH!!! We have found HD & HM and their New Nest!! 🙂 Decorah Hatchery Eagles - November 2, 2023
We had been itching to get down to Decorah to try and figure out what the heck was going on with HD/Dude & HM/Missy! So with Benny Bruhling behind the wheel, Tide Bruhling in the Back seat and me shot gun we headed south for Decorah.
After about 3 hours or so we made it to Decorah. We were heading towards the Fish Hatchery and Benny saw an Eagle flying with a long stick, so we started following in the direction he/she was going. We were Lucky enough to see HD or HM fly in and land in a tree. When we put our Binoculars on the area, Low and Behold there it was!! Both Eagles and their New Nest! Pretty Crazy as we had only been in Decorah about one hour! It was a Celebration of a Big Happy Dance and High Fives Galore!! 😉
It was great to find them and their Nest but all so Bittersweet too...  It is out of camera range. So, we wouldn't be able to watch them this year.  Too late to install cameras on the new nest tree. It could spook them and drive them away.
What does this mean for N1 & N2, I don't know. Would another Couple come and take up residency in one of those two Nests? Not sure! There is some distance between the New Nest and N1 and N2
But the million-dollar question is will it be enough...
We wouldn't be able to watch them unless Raptor Resource Project would have a Plan B.  Then there is always the theory that they still might go back to N1! Remember Never say Never in the Eagle World 😉 Time will tell! 🙂For now, we aren't going to Disclose the Location but in time we will.
Have a Great Evening and remember don't let anyone take your Happy away! 🙂
Fly Like an Eagle! [/size]

For those that use Facebook here is a link to Sue Bruhling's FB page with 2 additional photos of the "New" nest on top of the bluffs over by the hatchery.

There was another out-of-the-ordinary cam shot earlier this afternoon.
Someone was caught on cam walking around on the flat grass area  at the foot of the cliffs.  Anyone else see that?

Puff we watched as the 2 footer walked all around glassing the bluffs.

I call it the Elephant Trunk of the bluffs.

I figure HD and HM saw all those fish in N1 and assumed a usurper had opened a fish market in their nest, and rather than litigate decided to relocate.  And besides, somebirdy had trimmed all those branches and made them feel more exposed and worried about enough shade on their future clutch.  Just saying.  :) ;)

I keep returning to Bob's saying - Eagles just build.  It's what they do.

Thanks for the snaps and comments today.
That  pretty sunset today,  reminds me of the yellow /green often seen in South Africa on cam shots.

Oops, it's only squirrels.

I just can't believe that absolutely nothing .. no bugs, maggots, flies, spiders, mice, gerbils, Qualllabear, raccoons
or the very rare carnivorous driftless monkey have NOT eaten any of those fish in N1 yet !

I mean like no hungry migrating winged raptor even took just one for a Halloween treat?
What kind of fish were they, where did they come from and when were they put in N1 ?
And as George Carlin would ask more pointedly _ exactly how old where they when they where put in my sock drawer?   :)

Someone must have put in place one heck of a anti-climb Mammal apparatus at the base of the Nest One Cottonwood tree.   ;D  8)
Willard had a hand in it I suspect.   :-*

Alternate title to the 3 squirrels headed down the Y into N1. LOL
Hey Bushy _ comes from the back of the pack _ I dare you to eat one of those decorah sardines..
2nd in the brat pack says yeah go for it Bushy.
Bushy the fearless leader of the trio Cottonwood Expedition pauses at the crib rails _ nose twitching _ and says dead pan looking over his shoulder to the 2 bush league 2 behind him _ there's something fishy going on here.

'badum tssssh'  thanks I won't be here all night
