Aren't we all smiling that DH2 chose to branch to the Y and not just fledge to somewhere we might not see?   ;D   ;D  Ok, grinning ear to ear.

Breezy morning pics.

I enjoyed the jokes about the messy nest. I actually love the messy, half-destroyed look of a nest. It usually means that eaglets were successfully raised and fledged from the nest, and that is a very good thing. Looking forward to more branch hopping/flying.

Such a joy to have DH2 growing up to branch at N1!

Remember the foot injury that HD was limping around from for months earlier in the spring?  Cam ops got some closeups of that foot (the right one, and the middle talon) today, and it looks like the toe does not have a talon.  Doesn't seem to be a hindrance to HD.

Thanks, everyone for all the documentation here of DH2's great choice to branch to the famous Y! It has been a favorite of all of our eagles from the beginning and a bonus for us!

I'm happy to read that HD's injury hasn't been a hindrance to him.

N1 is the best nest and DH2 is doing all the right eagley things. :-*

DH2 has done alot of moving around the N1 tree today.  DH2 moved from Y to N side perch, above the Y, and out of view once but was heard moving around.

Lisa, great pics of DH2 exploring the N1 tree!

Here are a few from late this afternoon, HD and DH2 on the Y and the nest.
Voices can be heard, possibly eagle watchers.

DH2 has been calling a lot, and sounds hoarse sometimes.  The healthy calls are very high-pitched.  Combine the voice (high pitched from smaller squawk box) and the smaller size when next to HM, I'm going out on a limb   ;D   to say I think DH2 is a male.  Since there's only one eaglet here, I'm remembering last year when there were 2 at the North nest, and the smaller we watchers decided was male.  What's your best guess?

Lisa, this was DH2's first night away from the nest, correct?  Certainly fewer bugs on a branch.

Two fish deliveries right after daylight this morning, I think both by HD.  Mid-morning HD did some nest cleanup with help from DH2. About noon, HD (I think) flew right past DH2 on the Y, carrying a rabbit to N1.  Didn't stay long enough to tell for sure, might have been HM.  Anyhow a very cool delivery, worth watching on the rewind.  Thanks to the cam ops for all the grand Decorah videos this season!   ;D

DH2 seems confident and balanced on the Y, flapping from one place to another.

This was the 2nd night on Y for DH2.

First night was the night before and DH2 was by themselves on Y, like a big eagle.  :)

Last night, DH2 was off-camera (not on the Y).  About 8:30 this morning, HM brought a large fish to N1 and proceeded to eat some of it.  DH2 was nearby, calling, and took several minutes to navigate to the nest from direction of the Y.  HM departed to the Y, joined by DH2 for a while, then HM flew away.  About 10:30, DH2 flew to a branch above the nest, one that HM and HD like to perch on.  DH2 returned to the Y about 10:45.  All this movement and flapping and flying is still just branching because all the limbs are part of the N1 tree.   Stay tuned.  :D
