I'll add the Eastern Wood-pewee to my reference pics collection. Pewees, flycatchers, and kingbirds are related and similar in appearance, according to my Birds in Missouri reference book.

Cam ops are busy at DNN today. About 12:30 to 1:00 I think a juvenile common grackle in the area near the Yonder Snag. All dark brown, dark eyes, heavy beak, long legs. Might have been two, one with a tattered tail and one with a nice smooth tail. Also an adult with the yellow eyes and black feathers. Likely a family?

The Norths made a nest visit at daybreak today. First time in a while that they have been there together.

Misty or foggy or smoky morning at DNN. Eagles might be around but invisible in the murk at daybreak.

Cam ops found perfect light to show spiderwebs and an unknown object about 7:00 AM. The object is on the Ladder Branch, just above the nest, and it is largish. Perhaps a bird's nest that fell, like maybe oriole?

Or a wasp or hornet nest?? No idea how long it has been there.

STL -- Your unknown object is a pellet. When Mr. North and DNF made that early morning visit on July 21 (Fri.), I saw DNF cast a large pellet but I didn't realize that it fell onto the branch and remained there.

Also on July 21, but in the evening, there was a very pretty subadult visitor. DNF was perched for quite awhile on the Claw Tree and then the cam op found the visitor perched on the BPT. DNF didn't react at all to it. Eventually the cam op pulled the cam back and after awhile Mr. North came along and forced the visitor to fly off. Mr. North then flew onto the BPT to perch for awhile.

Last night a little before 7:00 p.m. a storm moved in and one of our parents flew in and landed on the Love Tree. It soon flew off to the left, I assume to seek a more sheltered spot. The was a lot of wind and after awhile RRP shut off the livestream. This morning DNF and Mr. North were perched on the Scary Tree before daylight (I think they roosted there after the storm passed).

Ginger, great pics, love the woodpecker speck of red! And a pellet never crossed my mind. Looked about the size of a football to me, but your pics prove it. In my closeup, it appears that the spiders continued their web right over the pellet so maybe it will be there for a good while. Watch and learn.

The Scary Tree is the perch of choice today, too. Really difficult to see in detail early because of air conditions (fog, smoke) but at least one of them has been there all night and all morning. The pic from about 11:00 is DNF, I'm fairly sure.

So much terrible hot weather all over the USA (and World) this month. The DNN cattle have a built-in cooling station.

STL -- There was also a juvie visitor on Sun., 7/23. It perched for quite awhile in a tree to the right of the BPT. During that time DNF and Mr. North were both perched on the Claw Tree. Both would occasionally vocalize, presumably at the juvie visitor although one of the chatters mentioned they thought they heard another juvie and it was also pointed out that when they vocalized they were facing away from the juvie that we could see.

The next day, Mon., 7/24, there were two juvies for awhile on the Scary Tree. Later on I only saw one at a time but I don't know which one. It spent some time relaxing on the stream bank. The juvie behavior is so different from the adults in that they will lie down on the ground and relax. Note that it visited the Twiggy Tree. Remember that at least one of our fledglings perched there last year?
